Next week's episode of Fear the Walking Dead will introduce new characters, and bring "a lot of comedy" to AMC's zombie drama. The series is typically dark and light on comedic relief, which makes sense when one considers all the deaths and other hardships faced by the current cast of characters over the course of the season.
The first half of Fear The Walking Dead's fourth season featured the shocking deaths of Nick (Frank Dillane) and the show's lead, Madison (Kim Dickens), which leaves Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) as the sole survivor of the Clarke family, and the only remaining series regular from season 1. The first three seasons have slowly killed off most of the show's main characters. Season 4 began by rebuilding the cast. with the additions of The Walking Dead's Morgan (Lennie James) as a crossover character, John (Garrett Dillahunt), June (Jenna Elfman), and Althea (Maggie Grace). With Madison dead, Morgan appears to be the show's new lead.

In an interview with EW, Fear The Walking Dead co-showrunner Ian Goldberg explains that next week's episode will have a much lighter tone, as opposed to last Sunday's episode. Goldberg promises that the show will introduce "new faces".
We’re going to meet some new faces next week who are going to lend a very different flavor to the show. There’s going to be a lot of comedy. Episode 410 was a very dark episode and with the episode 411, it’s going to be much lighter in tone and a lot of that will come from some new cast additions that we’re excited for people to check out.

These new characters are the ones that were shown in the trailer that debuted at SDCC. The five new recurring characters are played by Aaron Stanford, Stephen Henderson, Tonya Perkins, Mo Collins, and Daryll "Chill" Mitchell. Based on what was seen in the trailer, some of these new faces will at least temporarily join the main group of survivors, which is currently so divided that a few of them go days without seeing each other.
Some of them, particularly Alicia, are still shaken by the deaths of Madison and Nick, along with other tragedies. The show's dark tone reached another level in Sunday's episode, which focused exclusively on Alicia and Charlie, the young girl who murdered Nick. Alicia hates Charlie, but is forced to be stuck in the same house with her while caught in an intense storm. Driven by guilt, Charlie even attempts suicide. Much like controversial The Walking Dead season 4 episode, "The Grove", this episode dealt with a character struggling with the dilemma of killing a child. In the end, Alicia, chooses to resist her need for revenge and spares Charlie's life. It appears that next week's episode will provide a break from the show's current tone by infusing it with a dose of comedy, courtesy of the new cast additions. It'll be interesting to see how these new characters affect the series going forward.
