How Could Endgame Effect Doctor Strange 2?

How Could Endgame Effect Doctor Strange 2?

How could Endgame effect Doctor Strange 2?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is in wide release, ComingSoon.net is speculating on how the events in that movie could play into what takes place is director Scott Derrickson’s forthcoming Doctor Strange 2. SPOILERS BEWARE!!!

While Tony Stark may have been the big hero of the final battle in the Infinity Saga, one can argue that Doctor Strange was the pivotal character. Not only did his action of willingly surrendering the Time Stone to Thanos in exchange for Tony Stark’s life set in motion all the events that led to Thanos’ defeat, Stephen Strange (along with Wong) was also responsible for galvanizing nearly the entire MCU to that iconic final battle.

That is likely the most significant difference for Strange going into his second film. Rather than being some mystical weirdo who lives at 177A Bleecker Street, he’s now a lynchpin for all the heroes of Earth and beyond. It will be interesting to see how he can balance his life as an Avenger with his day-to-day reality-protection duties as The Sorcerer Supreme. If Captain America did his job right at the end of Endgame he should also still be in possession of the Time Stone.

It is said Time Stone that will probably cause most of his problems in Doctor Strange 2. He still has Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo out there trying to destroy all sorcerers, insisting that “the bill comes due.” One can imagine that bill might also come partly from all the time f**kery in Endgame as well, that maybe the timeline wasn’t put back on track as neatly as Bruce Banner promised The Ancient One it would be. It’s possible that Strange is busy dealing with the repercussions of a universe knocked seriously out of whack by The Avengers.

Whether it’s putting Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War or Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok and now Thor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Marvel loves plussing solo movies by adding other popular characters. But who would match up nicely with Doctor Strange? We could see everyone from a time-travelling Vision to Strange’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man coming along for a multiverse-spanning adventure. This could also be the movie that finally explores the connection between the Quantum Realm and the Dark Dimension.

What we do know for certain about Doctor Strange 2 is that Derrickson will direct and co-write with C. Robert Cargill, and Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Benedict Wong are all expected to return. The characters of Jonathan Pangborn and Master Hamir could also have larger roles, and the comics characters of Nightmare and Clea could play a part.

What would you like to see in Doctor Strange 2? Let us know in the comments below!

How Could Endgame Effect Ant-Man 3?

How Could Endgame Effect Ant-Man 3?

How Could Endgame Effect Ant-Man 3?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is in wide release, ComingSoon.net wants to speculate on what effect the events of the blockbuster could have on the story in an eventual Ant-Man 3. BEWARE SPOILERS!!!

So several huge things happen to Scott Lang in Endgame. For one, he’s thrust through a quantum time vortex five years into the future long after the “Snapture” has turned half of humanity into dust. Fortunately his beloved daughter Cassie is still alive but five years older. This leaves Scott in the unenviable position of having missed at least three years of his daughter’s life in prison and another five through a time mishap. After the warm glow of his return wears off will Cassie (now played by Emma Fuhrmann, replacing the younger Abby Ryder Fortson) become resentful of Scott or wind up joining him on his adventures with the resurrected Hope and Hank?

There’s also the matter of Scott’s status as an outlaw. Up until now Scott Lang has been on the periphery of being a superhero, both within the Avengers and in society at large, with police and at times other Avengers trying to take him down, and Hank always trying to keep his suit under wraps from the powers that be. What happens when Scott becomes a full-fledged superhero/full-time Avenger? One that kids won’t be embarrassed to have their picture taken with at a diner?

Another big question the film raises is who will fund and provide infrastructure/evolving technology for The Avengers now that Tony Stark is dead and Avengers Headquarters is decimated? Hank Pym could fill the gap by using the emerging shrinking and quantum/time technologies he developed to provide cashflow and new inventions/suits to the team. He was seen at Tony Stark’s funeral, indicating that the bad blood between him and the Stark family may have mellowed.

There is also the matter of the mysterious parties that A) purchased Avengers Tower in New York in Spider-Man: Homecoming and B) Sonny Burch’s unnamed tech buyers in Ant-Man and The Wasp. There has long been speculation that both those parties could be Reed Richards and The Fantastic Four, with Avengers Tower eventually being transformed into The Baxter Building. It could also be their arch-nemisis, Victor Von Doom, with the shenanigans in the Quantum Realm opening up the possibility of Galactus and The Silver Surfer paying a visit as well.

Given that Ant-Man franchise director Peyton Reed was originally working on a Fantastic Four movie in the early 2000s, and has said he would like to revisit the property again, don’t be surprised if a third film in the trilogy is titled Ant-Man and The Fantastic Four. Now, it should be noted that no official announcement has been made for a third Ant-Man, but given that every franchise in the MCU that had a second movie eventually had or will have a third movie you can bet it will happen. The fact is that the Pym Particle technology is the most powerful in the entire franchise, with far-reaching consequences that the filmmakers have only begun to scratch the surface of.

What would you like to see happen in an Ant-Man 3? Let us know in the comments below!

Boyz n the Hood Director John Singleton Dead at Age 51

Boyz n the Hood Director John Singleton Dead at Age 51

Boyz n the Hood Director John Singleton dead at age 51

It is with great sadness that ComingSoon.net must report the death of director John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, 2 Fast 2 Furious) due to complications from a stroke. Reports of the 51-year-old filmmaker’s passing arrived on Monday morning but were quickly revealed to be false by the director’s representation. News of his passing has now been confirmed by Deadline after the director’s family elected to take him off life support.

“We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time,” the family said in a statement.

At age 24 Singleton made history with his debut film, 1991’s inner-city drama Boyz n the Hood, for which he became both the youngest person ever nominated for Best Director as well as the first African American nominated in the Oscar category. The film also helped propel the movie careers of Cuba Gooding, Jr., Angela Bassett, Ice Cube and Laurence Fishburne.

He followed this triumph up by directing the Michael Jackson video “Remember the Time” with Eddie Murphy, as well as two more socially-conscious dramas in 1993’s Poetic Justice starring Janet Jackson and 1995’s Higher Learning starring Jennifer Connelly and Ice Cube. Neither film was recieved well critically, but he bounced back with the 1997 historical racial drama Rosewood and the 2001 hood drama Baby Boy, which was the feature debut of Tyrese Gibson.

Singleton branched out into the action genre with 2000’s Shaft, which introduced Samuel L. Jackson as the nephew of Richard Roundtree’s Private Detective (later retconned to his son for the 2019 Shaft). He then helmed the second film in the Fast & Furious franchise, 2 Fast 2 Furious, which introduced Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pierce and Ludacris’ Tej Parker characters, now both fan favorites. Despite a critical drubbing, that sequel grossed $236.3 million worldwide and became the biggest financial success of Singleton’s career.

His next two action films, Four Brothers (2005) and Abduction (2011), proved less successful, and since the latter’s release Singleton had stuck to directing television for the likes of EmpireAmerican Crime Story and Snowfall, the latter of which he created.

Some of Singleton’s unrealized projects included an adaptation of the video game Wheelman with Vin Diesel, the movie adaptation of the TV show The A-Team (later made in 2010) and a Tupac Shakur biopic (later made in 2017 as All Eyez on Me).

What Happened to Loki in Avengers: Endgame?

What Happened to Loki in Avengers: Endgame?

What Happened to Loki in Avengers: Endgame?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is in wide release ComingSoon.net is looking at the possibilities and questions its loopy time travel plot has created. Probably the biggest example of this is the fate of Loki in the MCU, so SPOILERS BEWARE!!!

Loki has been dead many times. Loki “died” at the end of his very first movie appearance in 2011’s Thor, falling into endless space, only it turned out to have fallen in with Thanos via his herald the Other. He next perished in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World where he “died” at the hands of Kurse in order to save his brother Thor’s life, only to use that illusion as a ruse to banish Odin and take over Asgard. Finally in Avengers: Infinity War he was strangled to death at the hands of Thanos himself in an attempt to murder the Mad Titan, with the big purple guy decalring that there would be “no resurrections” for him this time.

Then here comes Avengers: Endgame, where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes use time travel via the Quantum Realm to go back into the first Avengers movie right after Loki had been captured in the penthouse of Stark Tower. Their purpose was to steal Loki’s scepter containing the Mind Stone and the Tesseract cube containing the Space Stone, but during a scuffle involving an angry Hulk the case containing the Tesseract gets knocked away from Tony Stark and into the hand’s of… the prisoner Loki. being the opportunist he is, Loki immediately grabs the cube and uses it to transport himself to parts unknown. Tony and Steve are then forced to travel even further back to the 70’s to retrieve it from the army base/secret S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in New Jersey.

Now the ending of the film posits that Captain America brings the 1970’s stone back to its rightful place in the timeline, but that still leaves the one that Loki stole out in the wild with The God of Mischief attached to it, undoubtedly up to no good. Keep in mind, too, that this is not the slightly redeemed Loki that learned to love and fight side-by-side with his brother in Thor: Ragnarok. This is the pissed off Loki that just got his ass handed to him by The Avengers.

Perhaps the biggest indication of what happens to this Loki comes in the recent descriptions of the upcoming Disney+ Loki limited series starring Tom Hiddleston, which is said to revolve around the God of Mischief as he pops up throughout time influencing human history. How the Space Stone will allow him to time travel remains to be seen (that’s more of a Time Stone kinda thing), but with Rick and Morty‘s Michael Waldron behind the show we’re sure it will be wacky.

So there you have it. Loki as we knew him in Infinity War is technically dead, but Loki as we knew him at the end of The Avengers is very much alive and, as is his want, probably trying to rule some civilization somewhere in the universe.

What sort of trouble is Loki going to get into now that he has the Space Stone? Let us know in the comments below!

David Dastmalchian to Play Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad

David Dastmalchian to Play the Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad

David Dastmalchian to play Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad

David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man and the Wasp, Dune, Reprisal) is set to play the Polka-Dot Man in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The announcement follows the recent news that John Cena is in negotiations to star in the film.

Polka-Dot Man is a villain from the comics who first debuted in Detective Comics No. 300. The character, whose real name is Abner Krill, is described as a low-level crook who tried to make a name for himself with spot themed crimes and costumes, including gimmicks like spots transforming into buzzsaws on command. The character leans into the embarrassment of his “lame” abilities.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn will write and direct The Suicide Squad, which will act as a soft reboot for the franchise. While earlier this year a report suggested Margot Robbie will skip this sequel as well, the new report says that Harley Quinn will appear, though it’s less clear if Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg will return.

RELATED: Extended Brightburn Trailer Revealed by James Gunn

In addition to Robbie returning for a minor role in the film, Viola Davis returning as government team leader Amanda Waller and the size of Jai Courtney’s return as Captain Boomerang currently unknown, Will Smith dropped out as assassin Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot. The character was originally thought to return for the sequel with Idris Elba (Hobbs & Shaw) taking over the role, however it has since been revealed Elba will be portraying a completely new character. The film will introduce a roster of new characters to the franchise in a move that will propel the story forward in a way that’s both a sequel and a soft reboot for the franchise.

The first film, which hit theaters in August 2016, opened to mostly negative reviews from critics and mixed reviews from audiences, but was a large financial success, grossing nearly $750 million at the global box office off of a $175 million budget and went on to win an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, marking the first DCEU film to win an Oscar.

Warner Bros. has scheduled The Suicide Squad to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.

Phil Lord, Chris Miller Developing Marvel TV Universe at Sony

Phil Lord, Chris Miller developing Marvel TV universe at Sony

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be developing a Marvel TV universe at Sony Pictures TV following a huge nine-figure five-year deal with the studio. Lord and Miller have moved their overall deal from 20th Century Fox following a competitive bidding war between multiple outlets.

Lord and Miller previously worked with Sony Entertainment on projects such as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, and the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The new deal with Sony will allow Lord and Miller to create and develop comedy and drama projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming. The duo will also supervise projects from other writers, on top of developing television series based on Sony’s Marvel characters.

“We are so grateful to everyone at Sony Pictures Television for choosing to partner with us and expand our enduring relationship with the studio,” Lord and Miller said in a joint statement. “Together we aim to make groundbreaking work of the highest quality and integrity, and to place that work in convenient proximity to your eyeballs and earholes, wherever you may be.”

Sony’s universe of Marvel characters includes Spider-Man and his foes, Venom, Morbius, Black Cat, Silver Sable, and the characters of Into the Spider-Verse. Television projects related to these characters will be produced in partnership with Amy Pascal, former Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman.

“This is a significant milestone for our television business, having the opportunity to work with two of the most creative forces in the industry in both our film and television businesses. Building on our strong IP and creating new franchises has been a key focus for SPE, and the best way to do that is to invest in remarkable storytellers like Phil and Chris. We are thrilled to welcome them to the SPT family, and I want to thank [SPT co-presidents] Jeff [Frost], Chris [Parnell] and Jason [Clodfelter] for all their hard work in pulling this deal together,” Sony Pictures TV chairman Mike Hopkins said.

All of Lord and Miller’s TV projects will be produced through their Lord Miller Productions banner with Aubrey Lee overseeing.

How Does Endgame Set Up Guardians Vol. 3?

How Does Endgame Set Up Guardians Vol. 3?

How Does Endgame Set Up Guardians Vol. 3?

Now that Avengers: Endgame is in wide release ComingSoon.net wants to take a look at the repercussions the film will have on writer/director James Gunn’s forthcoming Guardians Vol. 3! SPOILERS BEWARE!

The biggest change in roster comes at the end of the film, which finds Chris Hemsworth’s Thor joining the group as what he calls “The Asgardians of the Galaxy.” Of course Starlord has some issues with the power dynamics in play now that Thor is part of their crew, and it’s also assumed that Rocket will feel a certain sense of (heightened) entitlement now that he was (partly) responsible for the mission to resurrect most of his team members. Let’s also hope that Thor takes his mother Frigga’s advice and eats a salad or two.

Given that Peter is seen searching star charts for Gamora, we can also infer that the film’s mission will be a Star Trek III: The Search for Spock-style quest to find the living Gamora from the 2014 timeline and potentially meld her with the soul of the Gamora they knew and loved who perished by the hands of Thanos. It is theorized her soul could be trapped inside the Soul Stone, so the mission could be to go back to Vormir and retrieve it somehow. This would also be an opportunity to find out what happened when Captain America confronted his old arch nemesis The Red Skull when he went back to return said stone. It’s also possible that the story could simply involve trying to locate the current Gamora and make her part of their surrogate dysfunctional space-trotting family again without use of magical trickery.

Since the third Guardians movie is said to be the last involving the current roster of Starlord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Nebula and Mantis, it’s possible we might see the return of Original Flavor Groot from the first Guardians now that he’s had time to sprout. Lastly, it is very likely that Adam Warlock will be involved as he was teased in Vol. 2, plus in the comics he is heavily associated with Gamora, the Soul Stone and a character called Pip the Troll. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected in theaters in 2022.

What other theories do you have about how Guardians Vol. 3 will play out after the events of Endgame? Who should play Adam Warlock? Let us know in the comments below!

Supergirl Season 4 Episode 19 Recap

This week’s Supergirl Season 4 Episode 19 has Kara spending her time as an investigative reporter rather than as Supergirl, in an attempt to expose Lex without furthering the anti-alien sentiment. Dreamer steps up to act as National City’s defender of aliens in Supergirl’s absence as Lockwood and his deputies terrorize and capture aliens. Meanwhile, Brainy tries to help James by forcing him to confront his trauma.

James’s Trauma

Supergirl Season 4 Episode 19 Recap

Brainy theorizes that the Harun-El serum is attempting to cure what ails James by targeting his PTSD. Each time James has a panic attack, a new ability manifests. Brainy suggests that JAmes enter a “mind palace”, a mental safe room where James can confront his trauma. Brainy speculates that James’s trauma is related to Lex, but James’s repressed memories break in and put a young James at his father’s funeral. James and his sister, Kelly, say that can’t be a memory because James wasn’t at the funeral. James says that he was at a diner across the street, locked in the bathroom, and missed the funeral.

As James and Brainy go deeper, the truth about that day comes to the fore. Brainy is expelled from James’s mind palace, and Kelly takes his place. Kelly witnesses as James remembers the truth about the funeral. He did visit his father’s casket early, but was kicked out because the funeral hadn’t started yet. On the street, a couple of bullies found James and locked him in an empty casket in the funeral home. James was trapped in the casket as his panicked, eight year old sister called for him. Kelly had always held it against James that he missed the funeral and wasn’t there for her. Seeing the truth, Kelly forgives James.

When James awakens, his abilities are not in crisis mode. Instead, he is levitating peacefully above the bed.

Lena’s Frustrations

Deadline has brought word that Simon Pegg (Star Trek Beyond) and Nick Frost (Into the Badlands) are teaming up once again to develop a TV adaptation of the bestselling fantasy novel Rivers of London through their production company Stolen Picture.

Based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Ben Aaronovitch, the story follows Police Constable Peter Grant as he is recruited to a small branch of the Metropolitan Police after encountering a ghost and becoming a wizard’s apprentice, during which he must solve supernatural-driven crimes including ordinary people being possessed by an unknown entity and becoming vicious killers.

In an interview with Deadline, Frost recalled how he found the novel while on holiday years ago and was “chuffed to bits” that he was able to acquire the rights to develop it into a TV series, comparing their attempt at developing the modern fantasy novel to HBO’s mammoth hit adaptation of the bestselling George R. R. Martin fantasy series.

“Everyone wants to potentially find the next Game of Thrones and the chance to turn Rivers of London into an eight-hour movie and hopefully find someone who will financially back that is a real draw,” Frost said.

Pegg, who has become more of a film star since his days on the acclaimed British sitcom Spaced, discussed how he believed that the small screen industry has evolved over the years to tell stories in ways previously only thought could be done on film.

“A lot of books that are made into film are criticized for not being as good as the book, because they are contracted into something more simplistic,” Pegg said. “But what TV offers us now, which is a cinematic playing field, you can tell these stories with scope and get into creative detail.”

Prior to writing the novel series, Aaronovitch is well-known for his work writing two Doctor Who serials for BBC in the late ’80s and writing their subsequent novelizations, in addition to three other spin-off novels of the acclaimed sci-fi franchise. The 55-year-old writer revealed that attempts have been made before to acquire the rights to his novels and adapt the story, but due to problems with studios attempting changes to the story, he was hesitant to sell the rights until Pegg and Frost came along.

“I feel confident on several levels. I’m working with creators and I know these people don’t like bollocks,” Aaronovitch said. “[Simon and Nick] are tremendous nerds and I don’t have to explain things to do them about magic, they just get it. we have a common language, which we don’t have in a lot of TV companies.”

Pegg and Frost are working closely with Aaronovitch in the current development phase, with the first season set to adapt the first novel into eight to ten episodes and the trio mentioning that potential future seasons may combine multiple novels into one.
