Brian Michael Bendis is rewriting the history of Superman at DC Comics, and is now rewriting the origins of the Titan Starfire, too.
At least, rewriting the history of her people to give his new villain a larger place in the cosmic history of the DC Universe. The first shock came when it was revealed that the alien monster Rogol Zaar actually killed Krypton (it wasn't destroyed due to ignorance or greed anymore).
Now in our exclusive preview of Superman #2, Rogol Zarr proves that Krypton wasn't the only ancient civilization he's now responsible for shaping.

The first issue launched the story in grand fashion, through with teasing the rage and hate of Rogal Zaar, the issue concluded with the reveal that Superman and Supergirl hasn't succeeded in sending Rogol into the Phantom Zone - they were now in it as well, along with the entire Earth. Given that kind of cliffhanger fans would rightly assume that's where the story would pick up.
But as the preview shows, Bendis isn't done showing what famous exploits Rogol Zaar got up to in the history of DC's universe. Take a look at the preview pages below:
The average DC reader may be quite thrown by this opening, since the image of Rogol Zaar leading an army against opponents terrified of his name is the kind of reputation Bendis' previous issues have already established. But the real hint at what the new Superman writer is up to is the identity of these lesser known, but nonetheless easy to identify. Readers are seeing the royal family to which Princess Koriand'r belongs. Better known to DC fans as Starfire of the Teen Titans.
In the previous versions of the story, Koriand'r's family were defeated by an invading army of longtime enemies that took control of their world, Tamaran. But in the new version shown as prelude to Bendis's Issue #2, the role now played by the Thanagarians - with Rogol Zaar at their front - is clearly a mystery fans are supposed to want to see solved.
Whatever the story has coming, and how much of the history it will be cleverly tweaking, the artwork from Ivan Reid and Joe Prado is in top form. Now the only question is when Starfire will enter the story...
