Rumors suggest that Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars TV show will be set on Mandalore, in the days after the Empire's defeat. Lucasfilm is finally allowing writers and showrunners to explore the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy. If this rumor is accurate, the live-action show will focus in on a single planet, one with a rich history in Star Wars lore.
In March this year, Lucasfilm announced that Jon Favreau would be the writer and showrunner of the first ever live-action Star Wars TV series. The show is being produced exclusively for Disney's upcoming streaming service, which is due to launch in 2019. Latest reports suggest that production will begin in fall, but details remain light.

Making Star Wars has just published the first rumors discussing what this series could be about. According to the site, sources have told them the show is set on the planet Mandalore, three years after the fall of the Empire. It seems that the end of the Empire has caused chaos on Mandalore, with the planet falling into a state of turmoil. Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels have both shown that there are conflicting groups on Mandalore, all with their own agendas, their own vision of what Mandalorian society should look like. The Empire's fate would create a power vacuum, with these groups competing violently to fill it.
This rumor is all the more interesting given Lucasfilm's recently announced Clone Wars revival. The trailer for Clone Wars season 7 teased that the final season will focus on the Siege of Mandalore, with Ahsoka leading Clone Troopers in an attack upon the seat of Darth Maul's power. If the rumor is accurate, then it suggests Lucasfilm is focusing in upon the Mandalorians. That approach makes sense; Star Wars fans have loved the idea of the warrior-culture since its existence was first hinted at back during the Original Trilogy. The classic Expanded Universe explored Mandalorian society in great detail, with author Karen Traviss penning a number of New York Times bestselling novels. The interesting question is whether or not animated characters such as Sabine, from Rebels, will be cast for live-action roles in the series. The Wren family are an important one to Mandalore, and it would be surprising not to see them play a part in Favreau's show should this be what it's about.
Making Star Wars stress that this is only a rumor, albeit one from sources who have previously proven to be reliable. If it's accurate, then Lucasfilm is moving beyond a focus on the Jedi. The Empire has only just fallen, and Luke has yet to begin training a next generation of Jedi Knights.
