Amazon's Good Omens TV Show Bringing Neil Gaiman & Cast To NYCC

Amazon plans to bring its Good Omens TV series, along with Neil Gaiman and the show's cast, to this year's New York Comic Con. NYCC attendees will have a chance to see Michael Sheen, David Tennant and others come together to discuss what fans can expect from the original series.

The Good Omens TV show is an adaptation of the novel of the same name penned by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. In that book, the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley form an unlikely alliance to stop the impending apocalypse after they both decide they like the lives they have made for themselves in Britain. Although Pratchett and Gaiman once stated they had plans to write a sequel, Pratchett passed away in 2015, meaning that a follow-up book may never happen unless Gaiman decides to write it himself. Fortunately, the story will live on at Amazon as a new original series for the streamer.

Fans wanting to know more about the Good Omens TV show will get a chance to hear all about it at this year's New York Comic Con. After Gaiman tweeted about some big news, the official Good Omens account tweeted that Amazon would bring the series to this year's NYCC revealing the panel will be Saturday Oct. 6 at 10am ET in the Madison Square Garden theater.

Amazon is betting big on its original series this year. Good Omens is one of 11 original shows planned by the streaming subscription service. Amazon has not yet released a trailer or release date for Good Omens, but NYCC would offer an excellent platform to release at least a teaser and to make such an announcement.

Considering the subject matter of Good Omens, it's already likely that it might find some controversy, specifically with religious groups. But a scene with Adam and Eve, depicted as black on the series, is what will probably get the trolls of the Internet most worked up. Gaiman is perfectly aware that some might find that scene offensive, but he stated he would rather the series "own it." Considering this is a production that also cast the voice of God as a woman (Frances McDormand), that's probably going to be the least of its controversies.

Controversies aside, though, Good Omens is probably one of the most anticipated series of the next year. Not only does it have real star power with Sheen, Tennant and McDormand, it also stars Mad Men's Jon Hamm playing the archangel Gabriel. The novel is already hugely popular with Gaiman and Pratchett fans, and those fans will undoubtedly be watching.
