Season 2 of Amazon Prime's hit series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has landed on the streaming service a little bit early. The highly anticipated follow-up comes a little over one year after Season 1, which premiered in November 2016 to critical acclaim. Starring Rachel Brosnahan as the eponymous woman, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel follows a New York housewife, Midge, in the late 1950s who discovers she has a real knack for stand-up comedy just as her marriage falls apart.
The first season, which also stars Alex Borstein (Family Guy, MADtv), Michael Zegen (Rescue Me), and Tony Shalhoub (Monk), and consisted of just eight episodes, took home numerous Emmys at the 2018 ceremony in September. In addition to acting nods for Brosnahan and Borstein, who plays Midge's manager, Susie, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls) won for writing and directing the pilot. The show also won the top prize for Outstanding Comedy Series, which only increased excitement for the sophomore season.

Now, the second season has dropped, a day ahead of its scheduled release. The Amazon Prime Video Twitter account tweeted a quick message at 7:36pm EST on December 4 letting followers know that all 10 episodes are available for streaming right away. Though an unprecedented move for the streaming service, it's one that others have pulled in the past. And with the prominent ad campaign across the internet, especially on Amazon-affiliate IMDb, why not shake things up with an early release?
In the second season, Midge will be traveling quite a bit, heading overseas to Paris in the first episode, and spending a good portion of her summer at the Catskills, a popular destination for the affluent Jewish families of the time. She definitely continues to perform stand-up, but there's bound to still be some fallout from the events of the previous season. Midge's relationship status is also unknown - when we last saw her, she and her husband, Joel, were trying to repair things between them, but he wasn't exactly a fan of how much he is referred to in her routine. And an "eclectic Manhattan doctor," played by Zachary Levi, who Midge meets in the Hamptons could come between them.
Now that the second season has dropped, it's time to see if it can live up to the first. It's received positive critical reviews thus far, at least. And however it ends, this won't be it for Mrs. Maisel: A third season was ordered all the way back in May, prior to its Emmy wins. So here's hoping Midge has a lot of funny stories left to tell.
