Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 Revealed as Nintendo Switch Exclusive

It's been 10 years since Marvel fans received a new entry in the Ultimate Alliance series. Featuring a number of beloved Marvel Super Heroes (and even a handful of villains) as playable characters, the series did well to establish a core following for its large amounts of content and co-op play. Now, in 2018, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is on the horizon, but there's a catch: it's exclusive to the Nintendo Switch.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was announced during The Game Awards 2018 as one one of the show's surprise reveals. Being developed by Tecmo-Koei and Team Ninja, the new title will focus on Super Heroes from the Marvel Universe teaming up to stop Thanos and The Black Order from retrieving and using the Infinity Stones.

While the plot sounds very familiar to anyone that watched Avengers 3: Infinity War, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 will actually feature a broader ranger of characters like the X-Men. Other heroes include The Avengers, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and even the Inhumans – with more likely waiting in the wings to be unlocked.

The title will feature an over-the-shoulder viewing option called the "Heroic Camera” perspective, which will put an emphasis on the action for solo players. Since this is a Nintendo Switch exclusive game, it will also feature the split-screen co-op play that the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series is known for. Up to four players will be able to controller different Marvel Super Heroes at once. Not content on just offering local play, players can also take their universe-saving initiatives online with friends if local play isn't an option.

Oddly enough, a reboot of Marvel Ultimate Alliance from Square Enix was rumored before Geoff Keighley confirmed that this was not the case during The Game Awards. Details pertaining to why the game is exclusive to Switch are locked to the fact that Nintendo will be publishing the title, so there's little chance that it will be making the jump to other platforms anytime soon.

Following the re-release of Marvel Ultimate Alliance on PS4 and Xbox One, it's possible that Nintendo's console could also receive both versions in order to build anticipation for this new game on Switch. That's just speculation, but it doesn't seem all that farfetched at this point.
