Todd McFarlane Hints Spawn Will Be in Mortal Kombat 11

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane hints that his popular character might be included in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11. The upcoming Mortal Kombat game was announced during The Game Awards 2018, adding yet another title to the game series that has been going strong since 1992. Spawn was also created in 1992 and has since grown a huge fan base among the comic book community.

Much like the Spawn comic books, McFarlane has stayed relevant in the ever-growing comic book world. Along with the character Spawn, McFarlane is also known for co-creating the immensely popular Spider-Man villain named Venom. The comic book artist has even revealed he wants to see a Venom and Spawn crossover on the big screen. McFarlane has remained active on social media throughout the years, by updating fans on the upcoming Spawn movie and even editing Tom Hardy's Venom to look more comic accurate. Now, McFarlane has again teased fans with a Spawn-related announcement.

Posting on Reddit, McFarlane teased that his character Spawn might be featured in Mortal Kombat 11. When a fan asked if he would let Spawn appear in the game, McFarlane simply responded, "I believe he's on his way..." Details surrounding the upcoming game are slim, but fans know that Scorpion, Raiden, Shao Kahn, and a mysterious new character will be a part of the game. Spawn has never been a part of a Mortal Kombat game before, but it looks like he might appear in Mortal Kombat 11.

While the character Spawn might make his Mortal Kombat debut in April, there is also a Spawn movie coming down the pipeline. The first Spawn movie came out in 1997 starring Michael Jai White as Al Simmons, but the new movie will star Jamie Foxx as Spawn and Jeremy Renner as Twitch Williams. Unlike the first film, McFarlane will be directing this adaptation himself, making it his feature film directorial debut. Spawn will reportedly start filming in Summer 2019.

While McFarlane's comment isn't confirmation that the character will appear in Mortal Kombat 11, one can't help but think he wouldn't be teasing fans if that wasn't the case. The first trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 promised a blood-soaked edition to the franchise, and anybody who has even heard of Spawn knows that the character is no stranger to lots of blood. In the past, characters like Leatherface, a Xenomorph, Jason Voorhees, and the Predator have been available as playable characters, and Spawn would be an incredible addition for the new game.
