Triple Frontier Trailer Features Ben Affleck & Oscar Isaac as Drug Cartel Thieves

The first trailer for Netflix's Triple Frontier introduces a gang of drug cartel thieves led by Ben Affleck and Oscar Isaac. Netflix has hundreds of original shows and movies in the works and they're attracting some of the biggest names in Hollywood as partners. This can be seen with the ensemble at the heart of Triple Frontier that is on full display in the first official trailer.

The Triple Frontier is the name of the specific part of the border that sees Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay all collide in South America. For the purposes of the movie, the story of military men involved in some way with drug cartels has been kicked around for years. However, once Netflix acquired the packageTriple Frontier picked up a lot of steam. One of the key moves was getting J.C. Chandor to direct the film so that Netflix could find the right stars to pair with the A Most Violent Year director. Movie stars fell in and out of discussions, including Ben Affleck at one point looking like he wouldn't appear. Now, however, he is front and center in the first trailer for the upcoming film.

Netflix released the first trailer for Triple Frontier, which features a team of former Special Forces operatives planning a heist against Gabriel Martin Lorea, one of the biggest local drug cartel leaders in South America. Led by Affleck and Isaac, the rest of the team includes Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), and Garret Hedlund (Mudbound). Along with confirming and laying out the main plot of the movie, the trailer also comes with the announcement of a March 2019 release window; and, though no specific date has been announced, Triple Frontier will be available in select theaters sometime next year.

Overall, the trailer looks to be selling potential viewers on the star power most of all. Affleck is a huge name in the industry and more recently made the turn as Batman in both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Isaac's name has risen tremendously on the back of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Meanwhile, Pascal is no stranger to Netflix thanks to Narcos, while Hedlund impressed many with his performance in Mudbound last year. Hunnam, though, could use a bit of a rebound after King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

This trailer certainly does a solid job of selling the ensemble and action elements of Triple Frontier, while still leaving just enough mystery for some potential surprises to be thrown into the story as it unfolds. With it set to hit theaters and Netflix in just a few months, Triple Frontier looks to be a promising original film for the streaming service.
