The DC Universe has had countless adaptations over the years, but one character that has had his fair share of screen time is Constantine. The sorcerer has been featured in both his own movie franchise and within the Arrowverse as well, with countless hours of airtime.
While neither is considered to be the definitive version, fans are clamouring to see one more take on the Keanu Reeves iteration of the character. There are plenty of supporters for the Arrowverse version though who has made many appearances in multiple mediums including in animation. Should there be another Constantine sequel or is Matt Ryan's version of the anti-hero better?
10 Sequel: Continuation Of The Story
While the original Constantine film felt like it can be enjoyed as a single entity, there's certainly plenty of reasons that the story could continue on in some fashion.
This take on the character has not been explored enough and while he does contain a few differences from the comics, it certainly deserves another shot at finishing the world it had already begun to build.
9 Arrowverse: Own TV Show
Matt Ryan has quickly become one of the most important cast members in the Arrowverse. Bridging across multiple shows including Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, he's quickly created a long lasting legacy.
This is all off of the back of his own original series. It was incredibly popular amongst fans and although it was cancelled, his version of John was so spectacular that he has been given many opportunities since in the DC Universe.
8 Sequel: Star Power
It's hard to deny that Keanu Reeves doesn't have star power. The actor has recently come into a bit of a renaissance era, with some of his past franchises getting revisited.
His work as John Wick is phenomenal and he's grown as an action star in the past few years. A return to Constantine would bring even more attention to this much loved character.
7 Arrowverse: Great In A Team Up
There's been plenty of crossovers from across the Arrowverse, but none have seemingly been a better fit than Constantine's addition to the Legends. He's really captured the spirit of the team.
As one of the leading members of the group now, he's managed to bring in multiple mythical threats to face the team and has made the series far more interesting with his own dark magic.
6 Sequel: Link To The Multiverse
While the Arrowverse saw the DCEU featured in a small but meaningful role, John Constantine is the character that could bring it all closer together.
His version of the magic wielder would be a perfect addition to the cinematic universe and perhaps help to expand their own multiverse. It would be compelling to see this version of Constantine team up with comic book allies such as Wonder Woman or Batman.
5 Arrowverse: Dark Possibilities
If the Justice League Dark are going to be added to any on screen universe outside of animation then it's probably within the Arrowverse. There's already been elements of the character's journey which could have seen this Dark gathering.
As the universe continues to head towards more hellish foes it makes sense that this group could form. Constantine would be a great team leader alongside characters like the Enchantress, White Canary and perhaps even Swamp-Thing.
4 Sequel: New Threats
There's plenty of new threats that the films could explore, years on after the initial release. The comics have expanded the universe tremendously, providing Constantine with new foes to fight.
Of course, because Constantine is not the main focus in the Arrowverse, his villains are sometimes overshadowed or cannot be included; the film would have a completely free reign.
3 Arrowverse: Expanding The Universe
Crisis saw a number of crossovers, one of which was really only possible with the addition of Constantine. The presence of Lucifer was heralded by fans and critics alike.
But much like a potential Swamp-Thing crossover in the future, or the addition of places like Hell, the Arrowverse is really benefiting from having the sorcerer within its universe.
2 Sequel: Different Direction
The film version of the franchise can take the character in a completely different direction. Keanu Reeves is a unique take on the character, which means his stories will be quite different.
The Arrowverse has set a certain tone for John Constantine that the films wouldn't replicate. Having multiple versions of the same character would be great if each one was entirely different.
1 Arrowverse: Brilliant Performance
Matt Ryan's portrayal of Constantine is one of the best on DC TV today. He's completely captured the spirit of the Brit, managing to combine his sly humor, intelligence and yet dark undertones.
It's difficult to make an anti-hero likeable, but Ryan has achieved this. He's probably one of the most accurate versions of any DC character, with many of his scenes really feeling like they have been ripped from the pages of a comic.
