The international trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween features even more ghouls, monsters, and not-so-friendly gummy bears than its U.S. counterpart. However, none of the cast members from the original Goosebumps movie are back in the sequel, including Jack Black as the franchise's creator, R.L. Stine.
Written by Rob Lieber (Peter Rabbit) and directed by Ari Sandel (The DUFF), Haunted Halloween takes place in the town of Wardenclyffe rather than Madison, Delaware (from the first Goosebumps movie). There, young Sonny (IT costar Jeremy Ray Taylor) and his friend Sam (Castle Rock's Caleel Harris) are getting ready for Halloween night, when they stumble upon Stine's enchanted manuscript for the eponymous Goosebumps novel. Not knowing any better, the pair sneak a peek at the book - thus releasing Slappy the Dummy and his army of mischief-making creatures back into our world.

Sony has now released an international preview for the Goosebumps sequel that dives a bit deeper into its plot that the U.S. trailer for Haunted Halloween does. Also along for the ride here is Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle costar Madison Iseman as Sonny's big sister Sarah, and Ken Jeong (Community) as their neighbor... who's possibly a little too in love with the Halloween season. (Only kidding, that's not a real thing.) You can watch the new Goosebumps 2 trailer in the space above.
After going through multiple release date delays and title changes, the Goosebumps sequel is finally ready to hit theaters a couple weeks ahead of All Hallow's Eve this fall. However, with neither the original director, writer, nor cast involved, it's difficult to say if Haunted Halloween will turn out better, worse, or the same as its predecessor. While the film's VFX admittedly seem a bit on the cheap side, Goosebumps 2 otherwise appears to be a harmless piece of supernatural horror-fantasy entertainment for the juice box crowd to enjoy (judging by the trailers only).
Fortunately, for Sony, competition isn't going to be too intense when it comes to family-friendly offerings this October, either. Haunted Halloween will face-off against two wide releases targeted at older moviegoers during its U.S. opening weekend (First Man and Bad Times at the El Royale) and will be the sole all-ages-appropriate film in theaters for the remainder of the month. As such, Goosebump 2: Haunted Halloween shouldn't have too much trouble keeping its head above the water at the box office - thus giving Sony all the more reason to move forward with Goosebumps 3, down the line.
