Star Wars: Resistance TV Show Gets Colorful Official Poster

Disney and Lucasfilm are giving the closest look yet at Star Wars: Resistance, through a newly released poster. The poster shows off four main characters and the familiar BB-8, all in a new, colorful animation style.

Dave Filoni, who created Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, is once again behind a Star Wars spinoff. Taking place decades after Return of the Jedi and shortly before The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Resistance will take fans into a time period of the mythology that has yet to be depicted onscreen.

Leading the quartet of Resistance characters on the poster (released by Disney) is Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono (Christopher Sean), a young pilot eager to prove himself as a spy to figures like Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac). Kaz will be serving under Jarek Yeager (Scott Lawrence) on the Colossus, a massive refueling station on an ocean planet that the poster characters stand on. The cast also includes characters named Orka (Bobby Moynihan), Tam Ryvora (Suzie McGrath), Torra Doza (Myrna Velasco), Neeku (Josh Brener), Hype Fazon (Donald Faison), and Flix (Jim Rash). Above the four characters and BB-8 are five Resistance fighter ships, original creations that aren't pulled from the films.

While there are still more details to be revealed about these characters, the poster does emphasize the colorful nature of the show's art style. Previously said to be "anime-inspired," this style has received mixed reactions from Star Wars fans, with a majority of YouTube ratings for the first trailer being a thumbs down. The cel-shaded nature of the animation and lack of detail on the characters' faces is being called "childish" by many - though to be fair, children are the main demographic for Disney Channel.

Regardless of the feedback from Star Wars fans, the prospect of a television show set before The Force Awakens is exciting - creators will be able to cover and explore new ground. The new live-action Star Wars show from Jon Favreau will also be set in the same era, albeit closer to Return of the Jedi than The Force Awakens in the timeline. Being on Disney's premium streaming service, Favreau's show will presumably be more adult-oriented, while Resistance will show the kid-friendly side of the era. While fan opinion may currently be divided, the show may win over people the same way The Clone Wars and Rebels eventually did.
