Aquaman Star Jason Momoa May Join Legendary’s Dune Reboot

Aquaman Star Jason Momoa May Join Legendary’s Dune Reboot

Director Denis Villeneuve has already put together an impressive cast for his upcoming remake of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Now, Villeneuve may be adding Aquaman star Jason Momoa to the cast as well.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Momoa is in negotiations to portray Duncan Idaho, a fan favorite swordsmaster who is closely aligned with the Atriedes family. Richard Jordan portrayed Jordan in David Lynch’s Dune adaptation in 1984. James Watson took over the role in SYFY’s adaptation of Dune in 2000. Watson was replaced by Edward Atterton in the follow up miniseries, Children of Dune.

Momoa previously starred as Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis. After that series ended, Momoa headlined a Conan the Barbarian reboot movie. However, it was his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones that turned Momoa into a star. Momoa was subsequently cast as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Momoa’s Aquaman solo movie far exceeded expectations and became one of the most successful DC adaptations.

As for Dune, Timothee Chalamet is headlining the film as Paul Atreides. Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard,  and Charlotte Rampling are also in the cast. Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, and Oscar Isaac are in talks to join the film.

Dune will begin filming later this later this year. Legendary Pictures hasn’t yet set a release date.
