Which Is Cuter: Baby Yoda Or Porgs? Daisy Ridley Weighs In

Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley has settled an ongoing debate among fans in definitive fashion, declaring that The Mandalorian's 'Baby Yoda' - not the Porgs from Star Wars: The Last Jedi - is the cuter addition to the series. Ridley's final judgment likely comes as a surprise for fans of what was arguably the most polarizing entry into the Skywalker Saga.

The character collectively dubbed Baby Yoda by the internet has taken the world by storm since it was introduced at the end of The Mandalorian's debut episode on Disney+ two weeks ago. In the episode, the series' as of yet unnamed protagonist travels to the desert planet Arvala-7 on the trail of an unknown bounty. At the completion of his mission, the bounty hunter captures his target - the aforementioned, meme-inspiring creature that is clearly of the same race as the iconic Jedi Master, Yoda. Porgs, meanwhile, were the small, birdlike creatures that lived with an exiled Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To and provided cuteness and comic relief in droves. They were undoubtedly one of the less controversial aspects of an otherwise heavily-debated film.

Ridley's proclamation came during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. When Fallon asked her which she thought was cuter, Ridley wasted no time deliberating and answered the question in deadpan fashion. "Baby Yoda," she said, adding "Look, I'm not a fan of the Porgs. We worked for six months on The Last Jedi, and in every interview - 'what about the Porgs?'"

This isn't the first Star Wars bombshell Ridley has dropped recently. She all but confirmed that her character, Rey, dabbles in the Dark Side of the Force in the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during an interview earlier this month - just as the film's marketing campaign has led many to believe. She wouldn't reveal any major details, but did say that she enjoyed playing the worst version of the new Star Wars trilogy's main protagonist.

Although Porgs were the media darlings in the run up to The Last Jedi's release and a hit with a large contingent of the Star Wars fanbase, Baby Yoda may have taken things to a new level in terms of the cuteness factor. The Mandalorian has largely been praised by fans and critics alike, but there's no doubting that Baby Yoda's involvement in the narrative adds a layer of emotion and relatability that can occasionally be hard to find on a show where the main character has yet to remove his mask and rarely speaks.

The final chapter of the Skywalker saga, the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, opens in theaters on December 20. The first three episodes of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
