The Gentlemen Ending Explained (In Detail) | Screen Rant

Guy Ritchie's latest film waits until the very end to reveal what actually happened, so here's an explanation of The Gentlemen's ending. The film is very much a return to form for Ritchie, as evident by the The Gentlemen's positive reception early on, and sees him turn his attention back towards the British crime scene. But, in his usual fashion, Ritchie delivers a plot that can sometimes be difficult to track, especially as reveals are made.

The Gentlemen wastes no time establishing the core of its story, which revolves around Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) potentially selling his expansive weed empire to Matthew Berger (Jeremy Strong), who is secretly working with a member of the Asian crime syndicate Dry Eye (Henry Golding). This deal becomes more complicated to close after a group of boys steals from one of Mickey's 12 weed houses located throughout England. However, most of the film is told to audiences from the mind of a private investigator, Fletcher (Hugh Grant), as he shares the information he's gathered with Mickey's right-hand guy Raymond (Charlie Hunnam) about Mickey and his potential deal. Despite what Fletcher has learned, he only knows part of the story.

Related: Why The Gentlemen Reviews Are So Positive

With multiple players in this game and each far from trustworthy and with their own desires, The Gentlemen ending builds towards a twisting finale that recontextualizes much of what came before. People are double-crossed, several individuals are killed and/or blackmailed, and ultimately someone ends up on top of the British crime scene. But how exactly does it all play out? Here's what happened.

In the big picture, it's best to address what happens with Mickey's weed empire. Following the trouble that his business has had as of late, Mickey and Berger meet again to close the deal. Mickey believes the previously agreed-upon price of $400 million euros is still a fair value thanks to his business' infrastructure and specialized weed growing ways, especially since the industry itself could expand once it becomes legal. However, Berger says the theft has compromised not only one of the locations but all 12 and now only values the business at $130 million. Ultimately, Mickey decides not to sell his company to Berger after figuring out what he was really up to (more on that in a bit) and locks him in a freezer until he pays Mickey anyway and removes one pound of flesh from his body.

Meanwhile, Ray meets with Fletcher again, where Fletcher believes he is about to get paid the $20 million he's asked for. Instead of getting his money, Fletcher learns that he has been tricked by Ray all along. Ray reveals that he's been spying on Fletcher spying on them and needed Fletcher to reveal what he knew about Dry Eye and Berger working together. With his life now threatened, Fletcher reveals another pertinent piece of information: Russian gangsters are coming to assassinate Mickey and Ray.

Earlier in The Gentlemen, Ray and some colleagues go to find the daughter of an associate who has run away. It is a relatively smooth process at first until the girl's friends pick a fight and one falls off the balcony. The boy who dies is the son of a Russian and his father pays Fletcher to learn when and where he'll be able to get revenge on Mickey and Ray. The Russians kidnap Mickey after his meeting with Berger, while others are on their way to Ray's house. The surprise comes when Coach (Colin Farrell) kills the two coming for Ray, while Coach's boys kill the ones taking Mickey - although that was unintentional as they wanted to kill Mickey himself. In The Gentlemen's ending, Mickey escapes, Berger's plans thwarted, and Ray finds Fletcher again after he escaped before.

Much like The Gentlemen itself, now it's time to take a step back and focus specifically on what Dry Eye and Berger's plan was. In the grand scheme of things, Berger wants to work with Dry Eye to reduce the value of Mickey's business with the presumed agreement being that Dry Eye will serve as his second in command. Dry Eye is able to do this by getting Coach's boys to steal from Mickey, but his actions were not approved by Lord George (Tom Wu), the head of the Asian crime syndicate.

If all had gone according to plan, Berger would acquire the weed business for far less than it was actually worth, while Dry Eye gained the power he desperately sought. Instead, Dry Eye changes the plan after he kills Lord George and threatens Berger to step aside as he assumes power. Dry Eye offers to buy Mickey's business himself, which Mickey rejects. This leads to Dry Eye assaulting Mickey's wife Rosalind (Michelle Dockery), but Mickey catches him in the act and kills him. Dry Eye's body is then used to intimidate Berger into doing as Mickey says.

As for Fletcher, the end game for him is to get paid a lot of money for the info he has learned. He was originally hired by Big Dave (Eddie Marsan), who was interested in paying for the information, but Fletcher made multiple contingency plans. For starters, he turns the information on Mickey's weed operation and the criminal underworld in Britain into a screenplay that he is hoping to sell. The screenplay and all of his documents, photos, and other records are offered to Ray for $20 million. He tells them that they have 72 hours to accept the deal or he will sell to Big Dave. As a result, Ray gets Coach and his boys to kidnap Big Dave and blackmail him with a video of him having sex with a pig.

Without any competition, Fletcher is left to only sell to Ray, but Ray has managed to steal all of his information before then anyway. This eliminates Fletcher's chances of earning "double bubble" as he calls it, as he's already been paid by the Russians for the info so they can kill Mickey and Ray. Fletcher escapes when they come for Ray and tries one last time to get his money by pitching his screenplay to a movie studio, only for Ray to find him afterward.

Speaking of Fletcher's screenplay, the final gag for his character is a fun The Man from UNCLE joke. Fletcher is shown pitching his script, titled "Bush," to an executive at Miramax - the studio behind The Gentlemen. A poster for The Man from UNCLE - Guy Ritchie's 2015 spy film led by Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, and Hugh Grant - is prominently featured behind Fletcher. The executive questions some aspects of the script, including it not answering what happens to Mickey, but Fletcher insists that he's leaving room open for a sequel. Ritchie could be teasing he's working on a sequel to the cult-hit picking up on the sequel teases it had.

One loose thread that The Gentlemen ending does leave open is what happened to the Asian crime syndicate. Lord George was the one in charge of them and their drug distribution operation and had power of many, including Dry Eye. Once Lord George died though, Dry Eye took control of the organization. But, his reign didn't last long after Mickey killed him near the end of the film. The Gentlemen never goes back to explore the state of the crime syndicate after these events, leaving audiences in the dark as to who now runs the operation. With everything that transpired and much of being tied to Mickey, his peace could be short-lived if the new leader wants to get revenge - although whoever is in charge may be better off leaving Mickey alone at this point.

When The Gentlemen finally comes to a close, all of the back-stabbing still leaves a fair number of main characters alive and well. Mickey and Rosalind are shown together, but whether either have given up their previous lives is uncertain. Ray is shown to still be standing and managed to track down Fletcher, who is alive when the credits roll but possibly not long after. Coach and his boys survive too and have made peace with Mickey and Ray. Big Dave is presumably still alive as well. Meanwhile, The Gentlemen ending doesn't confirm the fate of Berger, but it would appear he is smart enough to do what he must to survive, even if he's a pound lighter after the fact.

Former Project Runway PA Testifies Against Harvey Weinstein

A former Project Runway production assistant named Miriam Haley testified about Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulting her. Weinstein's trial for sexual assault got underway in New York last week. The embattled mogul is still facing charges for sex crimes he allegedly committed in Los Angeles.

Weinstein's legal troubles began in a large scale back in October 2017, when both the New York Times and The New Yorker released stories about more than a dozen women alleging sexual assaults and/or propositions by the movie mogul. As the months progressed, more and more women came forward, recounting their alleged attacks, uncomfortable propositions, and various cover-ups of his misdeeds. Weinstein was made to pay  victims a $44 million settlement in May 2019. By August 2019, he had been indicted for charges which included two counts of rape and one count of forcible oral sex. However, he's been accused of assaulting more than 80 women. Another woman, Jessica Mann, is also part of the current court case against Weinstein where she alleges he raped her in 2013.

According to NBCHaley's recollection of the attack, she recounted "I tried to reject him, but he insisted." She continued, "Every time I tried to get off the bed, he pushed me back and held me down." Haley alleges that the assaults took place back in 2006 - once in her apartment bedroom, and again in a Manhattan hotel room. Despite her verbal pleas to get him to stop, even going so far as to tell Weinstein she was on her period, he persisted.

Haley's former roommate Elizabeth Entin also took the stand to recount her advice to Haley that she contact a lawyer about the assault after hearing her friend describe how Weinstein exposed himself to her and attacked her despite hearing that she was menstruating. The horrific personal details of Miriam Haley's alleged attack by Harvey Weinstein are harrowing. According to her, Weinstein was undaunted by her pleas or even her time of the month. Those recollections speak to the monstrous behavior outlined by so many women.

The public has its opinions about Weinstein's guilt and/or innocence, but the most important thing to remember while awaiting a verdict in the trial is that these women feel victimized. From Gwyneth Paltrow to Lupita N'yongo, to Salma Hayek and Anabella Sciorra, there are horror stories of actresses, journalists, publicists, administrative staffers and more being harassed by the producer. Those stories cannot be ignored. Everyone in our legal system deserves due process, so let's hope Harvey Weinstein has a fair trial and the swiftest punishment, if (or when) he's found guilty.

Friday The 13th: The Game - All Single Player Hidden Objectives

Here's every hidden objective in Friday The 13th: The Game's single-player mode. The success of the original Friday The 13th meant a sequel was inevitable, but that originally proved tricky as killer Pamela Voorhees was quite dead by the time the film ended. After mulling telling an original story that was also set on the titular date, Friday The 13th Part 2 instead decided to make Pamela's son Jason the new killer. This made little sense in terms of logic or timeline, but this mattered little to audiences who greatly enjoyed the slasher sequel.

Jason Voorhees finally donned his trademark hockey mask in Friday The 13th: Part 3, and the character was quickly cemented as a new horror icon. The franchise itself tried to kill him in the fourth movie but after a negative response greeted Friday The 13th: A New Beginning - which tried to make Tommy Jarvis the new killer - Jason was resurrected for part six. He had lots of interesting adventures in the years that followed, from heading to space in Jason X to fighting a rival slasher in 2003's Freddy Vs Jason. Sadly, the franchise is currently caught up in a messy rights issue which means a new movie likely won't arrive anytime soon.

Related: Jason Goes To Hell: What Jason Looks Like Without The Mask

Jason made his video game debut in the infamous Friday The 13th NES game in 1989, but it was 2017's Friday The 13th: The Game that captured the real charms of the series. It was a title clearly developed by fans as it was littered with easter eggs and even included Roy Burns, the Jason copycat from Friday The 13th: A New Beginning. While it was originally designed to be a multiplayer-only title, single-player challenges were added in May 2018. This added challenges that put players in Jason's boots as he stomped around Crystal Lake completing a series of killings.

Friday The 13th: The Game's single-player mode was ultimately disappointing, and comes across as a less interesting Hitman game. That said, there are lots of hidden objectives to uncover, all of which are listed in ATW Tech - Alpha R2's above YouTube video. For instance, in the Stargazing challenge, players should scythe Shelly - who provided Jason with his hockey mask in part 3 - in the barn.

Friday The 13th: The Game features lots of fun hidden objectives for players, which adds a lot of replayability to the single-player mode. With no new movie on the horizon, the game is helping keep Jason alive for the fans while the messy rights issues are being sorted out.

Jeepers Creepers: The Creeper's Backstory & 23-Year Rule Explained

The 2001 horror hit Jeepers Creepers introduced fans to The Creeper, a terrifying monster that harvests and eat the organs of human beings. While the Jeepers Creepers franchise has never managed to hit the heights of the first film again, it's important to remember just how popular that film was once upon a time. Upon its 2001 release, Jeepers Creepers earned nearly $60 million on a budget of $10 million, making for quite the return on investment, despite middling reviews from critics.

Jeepers Creepers 2 was also a box office success, although it's never been quite as appreciated by horror fans. The most recent sequel, Jeepers Creepers 3, only got a limited theatrical release, but still managed to haul in a healthy $4 million in ticket sales. It would seem there's still hunger for more Jeepers Creepers from some, although the permanent controversy surrounding franchise writer/director Victor Salva - a convicted sex offender - will likely preclude a fourth film from happening.

Related: Maniac Cop Origin & Backstory Explained: How Matt Cordell Became A Murderer

Salva's personal behavior aside, there are many people content to enjoy the Jeepers Creepers movies solely for what they are, films meant to thrill and scare. Tasked with doing said thrilling and scaring is antagonist The Creeper, played by Jonathan Breck in all three installments. However, The Creeper isn't just a rampaging monster, he actually has some rules to follow.

The Creeper is an ancient monster, and from far away it can sometimes be mistaken for a person, thanks to the coat, hat, pants - and sometimes - boots ensemble it wears to blend in when hunting. Once up close though, it's clear The Creeper is far from human, although it does have some humanoid qualities, and would appear to be the male of its species, assuming there are any more like it. Exactly when The Creeper was born, or exactly what it is - many believe it to be a demon of some kind - remain unclear, but a deleted scene from Jeepers Creepers 2 confirms that the monster has at least been around and claiming victims since medieval times.

Taking that idea further, licensed Jeepers Creepers comic books reveal that The Creeper participated in a human sacrifice during the time of the Aztecs, and that it was actually responsible for the infamous disappearance of settlers from America's Roanoke colony in the late 1500s. As for how The Creeper operates, it thankfully mostly lives in hibernation, coming out only every 23rd spring, and hunting for 23 days.

To sustain itself, The Creeper needs to harvest organs from humans, and use them to replace whatever happens to be failing inside its own body. This cycle has clearly been going on for centuries, and while The Creeper has been challenged many times, he seems to be nearly impossible to kill. He's also quite intelligent, as revealed when he's shown to be able to speak English in a deleted scene from the first Jeepers Creepers. It remains to be seen if The Creeper will ever be truly defeated, but the odds don't seem good.

Does The Rhythm Section Have An After-Credits Scene?

Blake Lively stars in a new spy thriller that might launch a new franchise, but does The Rhythm Section have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel? After her time on Gossip Girl came to an end in 2012, Lively's career started to take off with multiple leading roles. She's done her time as a romantic lead with The Age of Adaline but has recently found herself exploring the thriller genre in numerous ways. Between the shark attack focused film The Shallows, the domestic thriller All I See Is You, and her collaboration with Anna Kendrick on A Simple Favor, Lively has shown she's got what it takes in this genre.

Now, Lively stars in The Rhythm Section, a spy-thriller directed by Reed Morano (The Handmaid's Tale), where she plays Stephanie Patrick, a woman who is out for revenge. The inciting incident for Stephanie's new life is a plane crash that killed her family, and she's determined to find out who is responsible and make them pay. The Rhythm Section co-stars Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown, with both of their characters wrapped up in Stephanie's quest for revenge. Paramount Pictures has moved Rhythm Section's release date around a bit following an on-set injury for Lively, but The Rhythm Section is finally hitting theaters.

Related: Every Movie Releasing In January 2020

After captivating trailers that sold the public on an intriguing tale of revenge mixed with action, those interested can check out the film can now see what it has to offer and may even be curious whether or not they need to sit through the credits to see more. However, those hoping to see something after the credits will be disappointed, as The Rhythm Section does not have a post-credits scene. Instead, moviegoers can sit through the credits to see the names of everyone who worked on the film.

With The Rhythm Section just now being released, it is too early to know whether or not a sequel will be made. The film comes from Paramount and the producers of the James Bond franchise, so they know a thing or two about making a successful spy franchise. Unfortunately for those hopes, The Rhythm Section has received a mostly negative response to this point - although Screen Rant's review is more positive, saying the film is "wonderfully acted by Blake Lively and immersively directed by Reed Morano, creating a tense and mostly engaging thriller."

The good news for The Rhythm Section's franchise hopes, though, is that Rotten Tomatoes scores don't make or break a film's success with audiences and at the box office. It does have a tough road to climb out the gate with Super Bowl weekend likely to keep many at home instead of at the theater and with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) arriving next week. Still, if audiences respond well to The Rhythm Section, then future adventures with Blake Lively could be had - just don't expect any teases of them to come after the credits begin.

It's Too Late, Avast Antivirus – We Don't Trust You Anymore

In the aftermath of accusations of harvesting and selling user data, Avast is closing down it's subsidiary Jumpshot. The antivirus software company has come under increased pressure in the last few weeks, and it now looks like the first casualty of the claims is the company’s data-driven subsidiary. However, will that be the only one?

A few weeks ago, Avast was accused of using its various browser extensions to harvest user data through its free software, then selling that data to third-parties through Jumpshot. More recently, reports came through detailing the scope of the data that’s said to have been collected by the company, as well as how that data could be married with existing third-party data to personally identify individuals.

Related: How To Use The New Facebook Clear History Tool

Following the backlash of the reports, Avast today confirmed that it is now closing down Jumpshot. Although Avast is not directly acknowledging the claims or admitting any involvement, the company has explained it acted swiftly as any jeopardizing of user trust is “unacceptable” to the company. While also adding that Avast products will continue to function as normal and that existing users shouldn’t notice any change to their experience. However, the same cannot be said for Jumpshot employees, with Avast also confirming this will have a direct impact on them, likely resulting in job losses.

Whether or not you view this as an admission of guilt, it is abundantly clear the reports and accusations have now impacted Avast. The company would not be closing down its subsidiary, and so quickly, if it didn’t think this was in the best interest of the parent company. However, it remains to be seen if this is going to be enough to satiate the customer base. Especially as the allegations revolved around a service and company that has made its name on on the premise of trust. After all, Avast’s entire selling point is that you can trust the company to protect you while surfing the internet. When it then appears that users may have needed protection from the company itself, it's likely to erode trust in the brand.

The accusations were centered around the company’s free software. The revelation only goes to further highlight that free services are not always free. While a company may offer a product or service for free at the point of purchase, the free model is often accompanied by the same company looking to other ways in order to monetize the user. In many cases, the monetization comes from user data – resulting in a situation that runs an increased risk of personal data being compromised. All of this leads to the question of whether you should trust Avast in the future, to the much larger question of whether you should trust any company with your data that offers a product or service for free.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil Flipped the Script on Redneck Horror Stereotypes

Hilarious 2010 horror/comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil flips the script on the standard horror stereotypes associated with redneck characters. The horror genre is full of films and TV shows that make use of those stereotypes, such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, the Peacocks in the "Home" episode of The X-Files, The Hills Have Eyes, and even the survival classic Deliverance, although that last one obviously is more horror adjacent. There's also the many films of Rob Zombie, which often feature redneck or white trash villains.

One could surmise that the overuse of the redneck horror villain trope is due to most films being written by Hollywood screenwriters, who usually live and work in large cities like Los Angeles or New York City. To them, those that live in the backwoods or in the mountains are essentially a foreign entity, or at least a culture they have no understanding of, and there are few things more fearsome than the unknown.

Related: Tucker And Dale Vs Evil 2 Updates: Why It Didn't Happen

Thankfully, there exists the critically acclaimed cult hit Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, which casts fan-favorite genre actors Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine as the titular rednecks, and makes a point to subvert expectations regarding that type of character at every turn. These hills may have eyes, but they also have emotions.

For those unfamiliar, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil sees a group of college kids go camping in the woods of West Virginia, and while at a gas station, they encounter Tucker and Dale. Dale is instantly smitten with one of the group, Allison (Katrina Bowden), but is naturally shy, and his awkward attempts to interact with her just leave the others weirded out. To Allison and her friends, Tucker and Dale appear to be the stereotypical creepy rednecks that are just as likely to murder someone and wear their skin as be friendly.

Of course, Tucker and Dale are anything but killers, and are two kind, well-meaning souls. Unfortunately, the college kids are so afraid of Tucker & Dale vs. Evil's titular duo that their own stupidity and ineptitude results in them getting systematically killed in accidents on Tucker and Dale's land. Tucker and Dale know they didn't murder anyone, but are worried they won't be able to prove that, and each death makes things look worse for their case. Amusingly, the deaths are played for dark humor, including when one guy goes flying into a wood chipper, and another accidentally blows his own head off with a shotgun. Thankfully, Tucker and Dale win in the end, prevailing over the real villain in their midst, and even seeing Dale land his dream girl in the process. For once, the rednecks got to be horror heroes.

Ghost of Tsushima: Release Date, Story, Gameplay | Screen Rant

There's more mystery surrounding Ghost of Tsushima than any other of 2020's most anticipated games. The PS4-exclusive game from inFamous series developer Sucker Punch has received few trailers in the time since its 2017 announcement, leaving PlayStation fans mostly out of the loop regarding the game's setting, story, and gameplay. Still, the interviews and the trailers Sony has released give fans enough info to get a good idea of what Ghost of Tsushima is all about.

Following PS4 launch title inFamous: Second Son, Sucker Punch's last release was 2014's inFamous: First Light, a standalone DLC for that game. That put a three-year gap between Sucker Punch's last release and the announcement of Ghost of Tsushima, and the developer has been quietly working on the game since. A development update in 2018 showed Sucker Punch working with real samurai to ensure authenticity, but few other behind-the-scenes details are available (besides rumors of an internal Ghost of Tsushima delay to the second half of 2020).

Related: Ghost of Tsushima Confirmed To Have Local Japanese On ALL Discs

Recent trailers and interviews fans may have missed confirm plenty of details about Ghost of Tsushima, however, so a surprising amount of information is known about it already. Here are the details so far about Ghost of Tsushima's release date, story, and gameplay.

While fans still don't have a specific date to look forward to, Sony finally revealed at The Game Awards 2019 that Ghost of Tsushima is releasing in summer 2020. If that means July or August 2020, it would give credit to the earlier rumors of an internal delay to the second half of the year. Regardless, Sony will likely announce a set release date soon - possibly at the rumored February PS5 reveal.

A set of E3 2018 Ghost of Tsushima details revealed the game follows Jin Sakai, a feudal Japanese samurai-turned-"samurai commando," who appears to be seeking revenge on Mongolian soldiers on the Japanese island of Tsushima. The game takes place in an open-world environment, but it will feature a linear main quest for players to take on, along with various side missions. Much of what has been shown so far focuses on these few details and on Ghost of Tsushima's atmosphere. The game's Akira Kurosawa inspiration is extremely apparent, as trailers have been full of both epic landscapes and moments of quiet. Sucker Punch has also said the story focuses on "good people, in dark times, doing bad things."

Jin's fade into smoke at the end of the Paris Games Week 2017 reveal trailer seemed to indicate Ghost of Tsushima would include some kind of inFamous-like supernatural powers, but Sucker Punch has since revealed that there is no supernatural element to Ghost of Tsushima. As shown off in Ghost of Tsushima's E3 2018 gameplay, combat is instead focused on "lethal precision," where one or two sword strikes will down an opponent. The game has an over-the-shoulder camera perspective, from which players control Jin to dispatch enemies with brutal ease. Some of Jin's most devastating attacks come as a part of Ghost of Tsushima's stealth gameplay: Jin can perform Assassin's Creed-like "death from above" take-downs, entering a slowed "bullet time" state afterward to pick off any remaining enemies nearby.

All this talk of Ghost of Tsushima's methodical, skill-based combat may sound like it would come with the challenge of something like Bloodborne, but Sucker Punch has noted that, as a "mainstream" game, Ghost of Tsushima won't be that difficult. This is perhaps due to Ghost of Tsushima's progression system, through which players will be able to upgrade Jin's abilities and arsenal with items like grappling hooks for climbing and smoke bombs for disorienting enemies. These abilities help complete Jin's transformation from a rule-following warrior into the aforementioned samurai commando.

Warcraft 3: Reforged is Getting Absolutely Destroyed By Blizzard Fans

Warcraft 3: Reforged is getting absolutely destroyed by fans whose hopes for the game exceeded what Blizzard actually delivered. In recent years Blizzard has been catering to nostalgia, releasing a remastered version of Starcraft and even bringing back World of Warcraft Classic, a move which generated so much buzz players could barely accomplish anything because of server overload. Unfortunately, the company's latest remaster, this time of the 2003 real-time strategy PC classic Warcraft 3, didn't receive quite as warm a reception from fans.

Warcraft 3 defined real-time strategy games at the time of its original release. It was packed with features and gave players the ability to exercise near-unlimited creativity through its custom maps and campaigns. Players loved its gameplay, graphics, multiplayer, and everything else about it. One developer, Valve, loved Warcraft 3 so much that it created a mod for the game. That mod became so popular that it eventually spawned a sequel in the form of Dota 2. Simply put, prior to launch, it seemed like there was no way Blizzard could mess this up. However, fans don't appear to be happy with Warcraft 3's latest version.

Players have voiced concerns about so many varied issues with Warcraft 3: Reforged that identifying specific problems becomes a chore. Players have spoken out about issues with graphics, so many bugs that some Bethesda games seem stable by comparison, frequent crashes and freezes, as well as a complete absence of promised game features. Many game features that were in the original Warcraft 3, like custom campaigns, have also disappeared, along with the original client. Players also pointed out Blizzard promised campaign tweaks to bring the story in line with World of Warcraft. This didn't happen, nor were Warcraft 3 cutscenes improved. The reception has been so dismal that the remastered version of the game has received a disappointing 1.9 (at the time of writing) from fans on Metacritic. By comparison, the original received a 9.1 on the same website.

In addition, Blizzard sneaked in some changes to Warcraft 3 related to custom maps. The updated terms of use make it clear Blizzard owns everything related to custom maps, which can now no longer contain any copyrighted material or be reproduced anywhere else. This kills popular classic custom maps like Pimp My Mario and Anime Fight - and most notably, Defense of the Ancients. It also means Blizzard can capitalize on the creations of its fans if it wants to.

Many players are accusing Blizzard of pulling a bait-and-switch with Warcraft 3: Reforged. This seems like a fair assessment. The game was released with seemingly more bugs than Fallout 76, missing content and features, a forcibly merged client that locks players out of things the old client had but the new one does not, and numerous other issues. Longtime fans of the series, especially those who wanted to relive the glory days of Warcraft 3, have a lot to be angry about. This was exactly the disaster Blizzard needed to avoid, and according to most Warcraft 3: Reforged players, they appear to have failed spectacularly.

Avast Scandal: Here's What You Need To Know | Screen Rant

Avast has been accused of harvesting data from those who use the company’s free antivirus and protection software, then using a subsidiary to sell the data on to third-parties, including some of the biggest names in tech, such as Google and Microsoft.

Avast had already been accused of using its various browser extensions to collect and sell data resulting in many of the browsers opting to remove support for the extensions. In response, Avast had stated it was taking on the concerns and updating its extensions, as well as pointing out that although opt-in data was being collected and used, it wasn't data that could be used to identify a user by name, email, or IP address. However, a new report is now not only detailing the granular levels of data that’s understood to have been collected, but also how it can be used by third-parties to identify real people.

Related: How To Stop iPhone 11 From Tracking Your Location

The investigation was jointly conducted by Motherboard and PCMag and states the information being sold through Avast’s Jumpshot subsidiary included tracing all clicks of a user’s session, the device used to make those clicks, all of which is time-stamped. While the data doesn’t include personal identifiers, the suggestion is that when coupled with data already held on file by a third-party company, the identity of the person can be obtained. In one example given to highlight how easily a full user picture can be painted, if a retailer is provided with data of a purchase that marries with its own purchase record (product, timestamp, and so on) then suddenly the anonymous data has been linked to a person’s identity.

The reports entirely focus on the free software offered by Avast. If the information is correct, then it is the latest example of how free is almost never free. Many companies now offer a free tier to their products and services and as has been routinely found, the free aspect is typically only in terms of the monetary contribution. Data itself is highly valuable, and companies have found multiple ways in which they can make a sizable income just by utilizing that data.

One of the major concerns raised in this investigation is user consent. Avast argues that in addition to not collecting or sharing personally identifiable data, consumers have the option to opt-in or out. The problem here is whether consumers are informed to a high enough level to even be able to give consent in the first place. For example, the reports interviewed some Avast customers. And as to be expected, they were completely unaware Avast was collecting and sharing data in the way it is now being accused of. Consumers hardly have the ability to make an informed decision if they are so unaware of what the decision relates to.

As for Avast, regardless of the accuracy of the allegations, it is unlikely to be something its customers are going to feel comfortable with once they learn of what's happened. Even if those consumers are prompted enough to opt for a paid-for antivirus solution in a bid to further ensure their data is adequately protected, they are unlikely now to feel as comfortable going with Avast as they might have been before. In fact, the effects of the report are already being felt by the company considering Avast put out a press release today explaining its commitment to responsible data use, and how it is improving its systems further in the next couple of months.

Orange Is The New Black: 5 Couples Everyone Loved (& 5 That Were Just Annoying)

While Netflix's series Orange Is The New Black takes place almost entirely in the setting of a women’s prison, lots of love brewed on the series. Most relationships were had between inmates, but others blossomed between inmates and prison guards, and even between the guards and management.

Some of the relationships were sweet but with others, viewers were sour on them right from the beginning. Others, still, had viewers polarized, confused, or indifferent.

RELATED: Orange Is The New Black: 5 Couples That Are Perfect Together (& 5 That Make No Sense)

So which couples did everyone love and which ones were simply annoying?

10 Blanca and Diablo: Loved

Blanca didn’t ever get to see her love from the outside world, Diablo, after she was sentenced to prison. Part of her backstory eventually showed how devoted Diablo was to her, and how he even got caught by immigration authorities in an effort to help her get released.

The flashback scenes of the pair, shown in the later seasons, were sugary sweet, as was their final reunion in the end. It was clear that these two had lasting love for one another, and it was nice to see that it endured even through so much hardship.

9 Tiffany “Pennsatucky” and CO Coates: Annoying

This relationship wasn’t just annoying, it was downright abusive. Not only did Charlie Coates, a CO from the prison, rape Tiffany, but he should never have been involved with her in the first place.

The relationship started out sweet as Coates would sneak food in for her and was a shoulder for her to lean on. But they had to hide their friendship and eventual romance, and things took a turn for the worst when Coates forced himself on Tiffany and her friends tried to help her get revenge.

8 Alex and Piper: Loved

While it always seemed like Alex and Piper were all sorts of wrong for one another, there’s no denying the electric chemistry and deep devotion they between them. Alex got Piper into the mess she was in and genuinely felt bad about it.

RELATED: Orange Is The New Black: 6 Characters Who Got Fitting Endings (& 4 Who Deserved More)

Meanwhile, Piper seems to have had an awakening whenever she was with Alex and realized who she wanted to be and, more importantly, who she wanted to be with. While it sometimes seemed like they would be better off without one another, they were simply drawn to each other in a way that couldn’t be easily dismissed.

7 Larry and Polly: Annoying

It was clear from the beginning that Piper never should have been with Larry. The fact that he moved on from the relationship with her best friend just made their courtship really annoying. Not only does this suggest that maybe Larry and Polly had feelings for one another all along, but it also was a big hit to Piper’s ego.

Sure, Piper reunited with her true love, Alex. Nonetheless, getting back into the real world and seeing your ex now married with children with your former friend is just too much to stomach for anyone, including viewers.

6 Daya and CO Bennett: Loved

Yes, CO Bennett ditched Daya in the end after getting her pregnant, leaving her high and dry to deal with the repercussions. Even after she found a desperate way to save him from getting reprimanded and fired by ensuring another CO, George “Pornstache” Mendez, would think the baby was his.

But when they were together, their forbidden romance was super sweet. They seemed to really care for one another. One has to wonder how Daya might have turned out had she stuck with Bennett and had he cared for the baby. He would have had to find another line of work, though, as he would absolutely have been fired and had his career justifiably ruined.

5 Maureen and Suzanne “Crazy Eyes”: Annoying

Don’t get us wrong: we loved seeing Suzanne finally bonding with someone romantically, even if it seemed to confuse her. But something always seemed off about Maureen, and the relationship, if we could even call it that, was annoying enough to make us want it to end.

RELATED: Orange Is The New Black: 5 Things It Gets Right About Prison (& 5 It Doesn’t)

It all came to a head when Maureen died from injuries she sustained in a fight with Suzanne. Maureen was manipulative, erratic, and immature, so she was the last type of partner Suzanne needed. Suzanne deserved so much better than someone who just wanted to play mind games with her.

4 Poussey Washington and Brooke Soso: Loved

Soso originally entered the prison and annoyed everyone with her constant fast-talking, preaching, and quirky attitude. And while they seemed like very different people, she and Poussey eventually struck up a romance.

Seeing them together was so sweet, but it ended in tragedy when Poussey was accidentally killed during a prison fight. The sadness in Soso’s eyes and the deep depression she fell into proved that there was really something true and honest behind their romance. And they might just have made it together in the outside world.

3 Dominga “Daddy” and Daya: Annoying

After Daya turned to the dark side, so to speak, and gave up all hope following her lengthened prison sentence, she took up with “Daddy,” a drug pusher who was once the right-hand to prison gang leader Barb. She kept other inmates hooked on oxycontin and quickly got Daya to be one of her followers.

A former female pimp, “Daddy” began a physical relationship with Daya. Her macho bravado was irritating, however, as was the way she enabled Daya in her growing drug addiction.

2 Joe and Natalie: Loved

Theirs was a strange love story about rage and hate turned into extreme passion. But beyond their intense sexual rendezvous, which began to happen with more and more frequency, there were clearly strong feelings there.

It turned into a true relationship when they moved in together, acted like a real couple who went out in public together, and even discussed having a child. It was clear that behind all of the anger they initially showed towards one another, and their competitive nature, that there was mutual love and respect.

1 CO Rick Hopper and Aleida: Annoying

What was most annoying about this relationship was how blatantly Diaz was using Hopper, and how ignorant he was to this fact. Perhaps he knew all along but was so lonely and entranced by her that he turned a blind eye.

Nonetheless, there was no real love here, just lust and desperation. And the fact that Diaz didn’t care at all about Hopper’s feelings made it sad to see the path he went down in order to please her, risking everything.

It Comes At Night: Why The “Horror” Movie Divided Audiences & Critics

Despite receiving rave reviews from critics, A24's 2017 film It Comes at Night proved much less popular with horror fans and audiences overall. In recent years, A24 has become well known for its critically acclaimed output, and its horror films have been no different. 2019's Midsommar, 2018's Hereditary, and 2016's The Witch all earned widespread applause from critics. Whether these films hit with audiences has been much more mixed, especially among the horror faithful. The segment of horror fandom that prefers gore, nudity, and fast-paced scares tends to leave A24's fright flicks unsatisfied, focusing as they do on slow burn terror and character-based stories.

Another among this ilk was It Comes at Night, written and directed by Trey Edward Schults, who most recently helmed the positively reviewed coming-of-age drama Waves. It Comes at Night holds an 87 percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is exceptionally high for a horror film. Noticeably though, It Comes at Night's audience score is a much lower 44 percent, making the divide between critics and moviegoers quite apparent.

Related: 10 Underrated A24 Movies Everyone Should See

Sporting a game cast, good production values despite a low budget, and a story not content to simply imitate other horror successes, It Comes at Night really should be more widely beloved. So why isn't it? One reason sticks out above the rest.

It Comes at Night's trailers instantly drew interest from both horror fans and audiences at large, and by all appearances seemed to promise some kind of creature feature, or demonic possession tale. What was the "it" that comes at night? What was up with the screaming old man with the black eyes? These questions were teased, amid lots of quick cuts and jump scares. This was especially true of the more vague teaser, but even the later full trailer didn't clarify much, other than that some sickness was taking hold in people, and still made things look fast-paced and thrilling.

The problem was that the film A24's marketing sold was not the film audiences got. It Comes at Night was by no means a fast-paced suspense tale, and was instead a brooding, meditative look at how the spread of an incurable virus causes humans to fall apart, and turn on each other. Most of the scary images in the trailer were from dream sequences, and there were no creatures or anything clearly supernatural to be found, just man's endless capacity for selfish, inhuman behavior. One can't blame audiences for being bothered by this kind of bait and switch, even if It Comes at Night is a pretty good film on its own terms.

MoviePass Is Officially Dead As It Files For Bankruptcy

MoviePass, and its parent company Helios and Matheson, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, officially killing the theater subscription service. MoviePass didn't come onto most people's radar until 2017, but with a $9.95 monthly price it was an offer too good for most to pass up. Millions of subscribers signed up for the service, which promised it would allow them to see a movie a day, every day, for that reasonably-low monthly price. It seemed too good to be true because it was, and as the company changed their rules to be more restrictive, subscribers fled in droves.

The initial promise to see a movie a day was limited to 2D versions only. Soon, more restrictions were placed on consumers, such as limiting which theaters would except MoviePass, and placing arbitrary limits on which dates and times were available to see newer releases. Then, MoviePass angered customers by pulling dishonest tricks, like changing users' passwords to prevent them from requesting tickets to Avengers: Infinity War. After immense quarterly losses, MoviePass changed their rules once again to only allow subscribers to see three movies a month. The service continued to bleed subscribers, turned off by prohibitive rules and cheap tricks, when theater chains began offering subscription plans of their own, like AMC's Stubs A-List or Cinemark's Movie Club.

Now, MoviePass is gone forever, according to THR. Together with its parent company, Helios Matheson Analytics, MoviePass filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, indicating they can't find a path to a profitable business model. The SEC filing, made on January 28, allows the courts to liquidate the holdings of MoviePass and Helios Matheson Analytics, including a film production and distribution division. “As a result of filing the Petition, a Chapter 7 trustee will be appointed by the Bankruptcy Court to administer the estate of the Company and to perform the duties set forth in Section 704 of the Code,” the SEC filing stated.

In worse news for the company, the filing also indicates that it may still owe money to customers. Per The Wrap's analysis, MoviePass may "owe $1.2 million to roughly 12,000 customers," a staggering amount of money for a bankrupted business to shell out. MoviePass officially stopped offering services on September 14, 2019, after a previous suspension in July which they initially claimed was to address technical issues.

While it isn't the first theater subscription service to fail - a rival service called Sinemia shuttered its metaphorical doors in April 2019 - MoviePass should be credited for popularizing the movie theater subscription service trend. In its wake, companies like AMC, Cinemark and Regal Cinemas still offer discounted tickets and concessions via their own subscription-based plans.  Unfortunately for moviegoers, many of these competitors simply can't afford to offer the same incredible, but ultimately unsustainable, deals that MoviePass attempted to build their business around.
