How To Reset & Erase Apple Watch Without A Paired Phone

The Apple Watch is simple to use and can effortlessly connect with an iPhone or any other paired device. Likewise, Apple's smartwatch is just as easy to reset through that same paired device when the time comes. However, being able to erase and reset an Apple Watch without access to a paired phone is also possible, and here's how.

Traditionally, an Apple Watch can be reset through the paired phone by going to the Apple Watch tab in settings. Then, hitting the info button (an “i” with a circle around it) and then selecting “Unpair Apple Watch.” You can then also delete the cellular plan from the device. The Apple Watch will backs up all data to the iPhone or another paired device.

However, there is a way to reset and erase your Apple Watch when there is no access to the paired device, according to Apple. On the Apple Watch, go to settings and then tap on general. From there “Reset” can be selected, and then hit “Erase all content and settings.” If the Apple Watch is connected to a cellular plan, that can be disconnected as well. Finally, the user only needs to hit “Erase All” to confirm and return the Apple Watch to its factory settings.

As the reset is done without connecting the Apple Watch to the paired device, there is no recent backup of the device saved anywhere. However, if you just need to completely reset an Apple Watch, it’s very easy to do without the use of a paired device. Although it is best to keep your Apple Watch plugged in as you complete these steps, and the instructions are the same for any Apple Watch generation.

If you cannot enter the Apple Watch, because of a password that you do not know, there is also a way to reset the Apple Watch without it. Press and hold the side button until you see “Power off.” Then firmly press the power off slider and lift your finger. From there you can select “Erase all content and settings,” which should achieve the same results as going through the settings of the watch.

After resetting an Apple Watch you can begin to set it up and pair it to new devices with ease. To fully utilize many of the features of the Apple Watch, connecting it to a phone is necessary. However, if buying an Apple Watch from a third-party seller, or taking a previously used Apple Watch from a family member or friend, it’s nice to be able to reset it, no matter what the condition.
