When Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion dropped their "WAP" music video on August 7, some viewers were pleasantly surprised to see that Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kylie Jenner made an appearance. Others, however, were annoyed. In response to the backlash, the reality star said she was "honored" to be a part of the music video.
In the "WAP" music video, Kylie wore a leopard print bodysuit that showed off her curves. She also wore matching gloves and boots. To top the look off, the starlet wore her signature soft, brown eye makeup. Many fans were delighted by Kylie’s appearance, but others were disappointed. Mulatto, Normani, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, and Rosalia also made an appearance in the "WAP" music video. However, only Kylie’s portion of the music video was labeled "unnecessary." People felt the Keeping Up with the Kardashian star was the only featured celebrity who wasn’t an artist, and therefore didn’t deserve to be included. Now, Kylie is responding to the negative commentary.
A source told Hollywood Life that Kylie was hurt by the online commentary. The source close to the makeup mogul said, "Kylie took the WAP music video very seriously. She had so much fun with it and would love to do it again. She was really honored she was asked to be a part of it." They went on to explain that Kylie was affected by the response to her appearance. "She is bothered by any negative comments out there, but she’s human," the source said. "She’s doing her best to not let any controversial comments get to her because she’s proud of the project."
Also in response to the backlash, Cardi B explained why she chose Kylie to make an appearance in the video. "I wanted a lot of different females, not just female rappers, "Cardi said. "All the girls right here, there’s different things that I like about them." People are quick to judge what the Kardashian-Jenner family is doing simply because they are famous for being famous. This notion leads people to believe that they’re talentless, which isn’t factual. The family spent a lot of time planning and managing to get where they are today. Perhaps these aren’t traditional show biz skills, but they’re still skills that the average person doesn’t have.
Many felt that the Keeping Up with the Kardashian star was only asked to make an appearance in the "WAP" music video for more publicity, which may very well be true. But from Kylie’s perspective, this venture was an excellent opportunity to branch out and get a taste of the music industry. It’s unfortunate that people hated her for taking on the career opportunity, but that’s the reality of the Internet these days. Kylie, don’t let the haters bother you – keep doing you!
