Jason Sudeikis returns as a host in Saturday Night Live season 47. Sudeikis currently stars on Apple TV's Ted Lasso, for which he recently won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The weekly, live sketch-comedy show SNL will kick off its new season on October 2, with episodes both airing on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
Beginning his improv comedy career in the 1990s, Sudeikis first joined SNL as a writer in 2003 before starring as a cast member from 2005-13. He developed a career in film and television alongside his SNL gig, playing a recurring character in the popular sitcom 30 Rock and starring in the Seth Gordon film Horrible Bosses, before eventually transitioning into a full-time career in screen acting. He co-created Ted Lasso based on a character of the same name he had played in NBC Sports commercials, and the series has been met with significant acclaim as a return to heartwarming, uplifting television.
With Sudeikis now firmly in the spotlight, the former cast member has been announced by NBC as the host for episode 4 of SNL season 47, filming live on October 23. Though he has made a few guest appearances over the years, including reprising his impression of Joe Biden in 2019, this will be his first time returning to the show as a host. American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will be making her musical guest debut alongside Sudeikis.
Other host-guest pairings announced so far include Owen Wilson, who starred in Loki on Disney+ and appears in the upcoming Wes Anderson movie The French Dispatch, and country singer Kacey Musgraves for the season 47 opener on October 2. The duo of Kim Kardashian West and Halsey follow on October 9, while Rami Malek and Young Thug are slated for episode 3 on October 16. Malek is set to play the villain Lyutsifer Safin in the highly anticipated James Bond film No Time To Die, releasing in the US on October 8.
Fans of Sudeikis are sure to be excited by his return to SNL, and it will be interesting to see what surprises the show has in store for the audience. Previous cast members occasionally make guest appearances when an alum returns to host, and Sudeikis' time on the series overlapped with many other beloved performers, including Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, and Fred Armisen. Longtime viewers of SNL will definitely want to circle October 23 on their calendars.
