Modern Family has over 240 episodes to its name and 11 seasons. Fans have been around for the ride since the first episode, seeing everything from Cam and Mitchell's wedding to Lily's adoption to Haley's pregnancy. However, it's the characters' diversity that really makes this show as spectacular as it is.
Although many sitcoms have holiday-themed episodes, none are quite as dedicated to Halloween as Modern Family is. Thanks to Claire's infatuation with all things death and scary, the Dunphy household goes all out for Halloween night every year, with haunted houses and Halloween parties galore.
Updated on September 12th, 2021, by Lynn Gibbs: Thanks to Claire Dunphy's obsession with Halloween and all things spooky, All Hallows' Eve is a big deal in the Dunphy household. Because of this, her extended family has no choice but to put on a smile and go with Claire's Halloween demands. From costume parties to themed days at work, Claire counts down the days until Halloween night, thus bringing some amazing spooky episodes. Out of 11 seasons, Modern Family has seven episodes dedicated to the holiday that fans can watch again and again.
7 "It's The Great Pumpkin, Phil Dunphy" (Season 9)

As the fifth episode of the ninth season, 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Phil Dunphy' is one of the show's episodes that's lacking. Knowing how important the holiday is to the Dunphys, it was a sad day when the Dunphy kids weren't into the holiday that year.
While Claire tried her hardest to scare her kids, and later, her co-workers, her efforts fell flat. (Her Wonder Woman outfit was one of Claire's best outfits though.) Meanwhile, Phil was busy trying to build a pumpkin to hide inside of, which went awry when he went rolling into his neighbor's yard. Claire and Phil spent the whole episode trying to get everyone on board with adult Halloween but it went nowhere.
6 "Good Grief" (Season 10)

Before the 10th season aired, fans of Modern Family heard that there would be a death in the show. No one knew who it was, and suspected it to be Jay, Stella, or even Phi's dad. However, in the fifth episode of the 10th season titled 'Good Grief,' the story starts off with Claire (dressed as a spider) and Phil (dressed as a fly) decorating their house for Halloween night.
Claire received a phone call and soon learns that her mom (DeDe) passed away. This news put a big damper on Halloween night. As sad as DeDe's death was, the great thing about this episode were the costumes. Mitch and Cam dressed as Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, and Gloria dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Everyone was dressed in a way that showed off their personality. All together dressed in costumes, this family had to get over losing a figure in their lives.
5 "The Last Halloween" (Season 11)

'The Last Halloween' was quite literally the last Halloween episode before Modern Family came to an end. After years of admiring each character's arc, fans said goodbye to them and their love for Halloween.
In the episode, Phil is determined to scare Claire for the first time. After playing tit for tat the whole day, Phil finally succeeded in scaring her with an old woman holding an ax. Meanwhile, Gloria is depressed on Halloween as she comes to terms with aging and being correctly pegged as Jay's wife instead of his daughter.
4 "Halloween 4: The Revenge Of Rod Skyhook" (Season 8)

'The Revenge of Rod Skyhook' showed fans that Luke was ready for his first Halloween party. Without Phil and Claire around, they had high hopes for Luke's party to be a success. Regardless of everyone's great Halloween costumes, there was a competing party the same night that dragged friends away from Luke's.
All of the people he invited went to the other party instead, which left Haley and Claire showing up at said party to encourage all the guests to go to Luke's party instead. Their hard work ended up working and Luke's party became a rager.
3 "Halloween 3: Awesomeland" (Season 6)

In Modern Family's sixth season, fans watched 'Halloween 3: AwesomeLand.' Claire was working full-time and was too busy to decorate for Halloween, leaving Phil to decorate the house for Halloween night.
In a classic Phil way, he decided to get rid of the horror and gore and add awesomeness instead. He called his new house experience "AwesomeLand" and decorated it with everything he found awesome. But once Phil and Claire enter a friendly competition for the scariest house, Claire took over and replaced all of Phil's awesomeness with horror.
2 "Open House Of Horrors" (Season 4)

In the fourth season, 'Open House of Horrors' showed Phil upset that he had an open house on Halloween night, meaning he couldn't partake in one of Claire's spooky ideas.
However, Claire had something else up her sleeve. She decided to haunt the house Phil was selling to scare him throughout the night. To Phil, it was one of the worst things her character had done. Meanwhile, over at the Pritchett-Tucker residence, Cameron and Mitchell threw a Halloween party. With Gloria pregnant and Cameron trying to show off his newest weight loss, this episode was filled with hilarious moments and, most importantly, the entire family involved with Halloween.
1 "Halloween" (Season 2)

'Halloween' was Modern Family's best Halloween episode to date. This is the episode where fans truly see Claire's fierce dedication to Halloween and how much she adores scaring people.
After making the Dunphy residence into a haunted house, she gave each family member a role to play. But when the family wasn't as enthralled with Halloween as Claire was, she got upset. The family eventually pulled it together for Claire's sake, which was when her dark plan came to life.
