Good news, everyone! A Futurama superfan 3D printed a What-If Machine that can play every episode of the cult-favorite animated series. The quirky invention follows a similar recent 3D-printed fan creation of a Matt Groening title, as a 3D-printed replica of the TV from The Simpsons appeared on the 3D printing subreddit in August. The TV is a perfect recreation of the iconic box that appears in every episode opening and is even able to play every episode from the show's first 11 seasons at random. The outer TV shell was 3D printed while the interior is a Raspberry Pi Zero.
3D printing has skyrocketed in popularity over the years with the 3D printing subreddit garnering over 781,000 members. With more and more people gaining access to 3D printing, people around the world are finding new uses for the emerging technology. Scientists in Japan, for example, were able to almost perfectly 3D-print a Wagyu steak in a lab, while other researchers were able to create a working thermopower generator. 3D printing shows some of the most potential out of any emerging technology for its versatility in the fields of food production, toy making, and prototyping.
In a video uploaded to Reddit, the user Remoheadder accompanied by his handy Finglonger (as seen in the show) showcased how the What-If Machine works. The user explained in a comment that the tiny device uses a Raspberry Pi 3 as opposed to the Pi Zero that the Simpsons superfan used. For the screen, the user mentioned that they used UCTRONICS 3.5” screen. For audio, Remoheadder noted that they used a DROK audio amp and some 40mm speakers. One key difference from the Simpsons TV, which served as inspiration, is that if one to hold their finger on the power button you turn on the best channel of all: Hypnotoad TV. All hail the Hypnotoad!

Remoheadder has also uploaded a build guide as a comment underneath the original post. There are no suggestions from users about upgrades the creator could make to his What If Machine, although a CRT filter that was also recommended to the Simpsons TV creator would be a cool addition. Most commenters were either making quotes from the show or admiring the user's Finglonger, which was used in the episode the What-If Machine was introduced.
The post quickly rose through the ranks of the 3D printing subreddit, gaining 3.6 thousand upvotes in 17 hours. The show Futurama has a strong cult following after it was canceled twice during its almost 14-year lifespan. Fans praise the show's humor, attention to detail, and sometimes profound themes. The show is rated 8.4 on IMDB. Since the last season was canceled the show's creator, Matt Groening of Simpsons fame, went to Netflix to produce Disenchanted, a fantasy animated show in a similar vein to his previous offerings.
