Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ends with a tribute to Brad Allan, but who is he? As people may have noticed over the years, credits seem to be getting longer and longer, with some studios attributing credits in multiple columns instead of down one line - mainly so they can avoid extending the runtime of the credits sequence; Marvel is no different.
This time, in addition to several VFX houses and production teams from all over the world being credited in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, so, too, were various martial arts and stunt teams. Although Marvel Television worked on Iron Fist with Netflix, Shang-Chi marks the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first official foray into the world of martial arts. And to make sure everything was done authentically and respectfully, Marvel Studios hired Brad Allan to shepherd all the stunts.
Brad Allan oversaw Shang-Chi's martial arts performances as the supervising stunt coordinator. Sadly, the Australian stunt performer passed away on August 7, 2021, at the age of 48. A specific cause of death hasn't been revealed, but a post about Allan's death on Jackie Chan's official website indicated an illness contributed to Allan's passing. Before leading stunt teams himself, Allan became known for being one of Chan's proteges and even being a member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team.
Allan worked on several of Chan's films from the 1990s to the 2010s. But then he expanded into other films and series, eventually making his way into major blockbusters like Wonder Woman, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and of course, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The Marvel film is one of two posthumous releases for Allan; the other being The King's Man, which unfortunately has seen multiple delays due to the ongoing pandemic.
Although Allan passed away only recently, Marvel Studios quickly amended their credits sequence to include a tribute to the late-stuntmen. Audiences can first see Allan's credit after the mid-credits scene, in which he's listed as the supervising stunt coordinator, but then his tribute comes at the very end of the film, right before the post-credits scene.
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton told Screen Rant in an interview for the Marvel film that Brad Allan put together an exceptional team of stuntmen from around the world, some of whom came from Jackie Chan's camp. In doing so, Allan was able to imbue Shang-Chi with the appropriate martial arts styles for Wenwu and the Ten Rings as well as the people of Ta Lo.
