Aquaman & Clone Wars Top Most Tweeted Movies & TV Shows At Comic-Con

James Wan's DC superhero adventure Aquaman and the animated Star Was: The Clone Wars series topped the most tweeted movies and TV shows at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. The former debuted its first trailer at the event, while news of the latter's revival was announced during the Clone Wars 10-year anniversary SDCC panel.

Aquaman will serve as the next DC Films release (also now known as Worlds of DC) following last fall's Justice League. Warner Bros. unveiled the Aquaman theatrical trailer during its Hall H panel at SDCC, along with a second preview for the Jason Momoa-led tentpole that was exclusive to Hall H and is generally considered the superior Aquaman promo among those who saw both. Meanwhile, Lucasfilm used its Clone Wars panel to make the surprise announcement that the show will get its long-awaited proper conclusion next year, when Clone Wars season 7 premieres on Disney's streaming service (which launches Fall 2019 and doesn't have an official title yet).

Thanks to its Hall H presentation, Aquaman beat out every other movie when it comes to film-related SDCC messages on Twitter (both good and bad). Fantastic Beasts came in second behind Wan's film thanks to the new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald trailer premiere during WB's panel, as well as costar Johnny Depp's not-so-well-received special appearance in character as Grindelwald. Star Wars and Thor claimed the third and fourth spots among SDCC-related movie tweets, with Deadpool rounding out the top five thanks to the Deadpool 2 panel and Deadpool 2 Super Duper Cut screening on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Clone Wars came in first place among TV-related SDCC tweets. Doctor Who came in second place thanks to its own Hall H panel, which included the season 11 trailer premiere and the unveiling of the new Sonic Screwdriver design. Other high ranking TV series among SDCC-related Twitter posts this past week include The Walking Dead (thanks to its season 9 trailer and the confirmation that Andrew Lincoln is leaving the show this season), Supergirl (following the news from the show's SDCC panel that season 4 will introduce TV's first transgender superhero), and the latter's fellow Arrowverse television shows Arrow and The Flash, both of which unveiled trailers for their new seasons during their respective Ballroom 20 panels.

Interestingly enough, the films that debuted the overall best-received trailers at SDCC - like M. Night Shyamalan's Glass and DC's Shazam! - failed to make the top 5 tweeted movies over films like The Crimes of Grindelwald, which seemed to earn a more lukewarm reception by comparison. Again, though, it should be noted that these rankings are for tweets in total, not necessarily good tweets. Then again, if there's no such thing as bad publicity, then Aquaman and Clone Wars were easily the biggest winners at the event.
