Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 Comic-Con Trailer Features a Unicorn

John Constantine joins the Waverider crew in order to battle an assortment of magical creatures (including - gasp - a unicorn) in the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 trailer for DC's Legends of Tomorrow season 4. The trailer starts off by recounting the major events that concluded season 3, including Rip Hunter's heroic sacrifice and the Legends battling the demon Mallus by uniting the six Totems of Zambesi to form the ultimate warrior: a gigantic Beebo. This sets the stage for the season 4 footage, as the Legends set out to hunt down the supernatural beings they inadvertently allowed into our world over the course of their efforts to beat Mallus.

According to the synopsis for season 4, history has now been infected with "Fugitives" - as in, creatures that previously only existed in our world in fairy tales, myths, and fables - as a result of the Legends allowing the fabric of time to fall apart so Mallus could enter our world (where they were finally able to defeat him). Enter Constantine (Matt Ryan), a fellow who knows a thing or two about taking on supernatural monsters and things that go bump in the night. For more on that, check out the trailer for season 4 that premiered during the Legends of Tomorrow SDCC 2018 panel, in the space above.

As was previously confirmed, Constantine will become a regular member of the Waverider's crew in Legends of Tomorrow season 4. The SDCC trailer shows the time-traveling spaceship's captain and Legends' de facto leader, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), formally recruiting the roguish demonologist to become a Legend for the time being, as they try and round up these "Fugitives" throughout history. Previously-leaked set photos revealed the Legends will be visiting the 1960s this season (among other places) and the trailer shows them doing just that... which is where they come across the aforementioned (and harmless?) unicorn.

The Legends of Tomorrow SDCC panel further confirmed a few details for season 4 that this trailer doesn't touch on. For one thing, Amaya actor Maisie Richardson-Sellers will actually be playing a new character this season; namely Charlie, a woman who slipped through a portal and has a few traits in common with the original Vixen. No doubt, Nate is going have some conflicted feelings about Charlie, whenever he and the other Legends cross paths with her. And speaking of which, Nate will also cross paths with his father this season, with Thomas F. Wilson (aka. Biff from Back to the Future) stepping into the role.

Based on the details and footage released so far, season 4 is shaping up to be another imaginative and entertaining, yet heartfelt offering from (arguably) the best Arrowverse TV show right now. Legends of Tomorrow really hit its stride in season 3 by having fun with its time-travel premise and digging deep into its characters, emotionally and psychologically. Thankfully, season 4 thus far appears to carry that very approach over, while at the same time bringing in the fan-favorite Constantine to help shake up the Legends' team dynamic in (hopefully) surprisingly funny and touching ways.
