2018's San Diego International Comic-Con has finally come to an end. Every year, pop culture's biggest studios, publishers, writers, artists, and fans celebrate the things they love, and get showered with news, comics, merch, and more trailers than we can shake a stick at. This year was business as usual in San Diego with entertainment news galore, and quite a bit of controversy to go with it all.
It seems that the winner of this year's Comic-Con was Warner Bros.' extensive upcoming project slate. Marvel came to play with a set of television-heavy presentations. Lucasfilm wowed Star Wars fans with the revival of an old favorite. Comic industry news was out in full force. A fan-favorite director was shunted from a beloved project. The biggest TV shows all reared their heads for a brief tease, along with some new and anticipated programs that will be joining their ranks.
Clearly, the SDCC wrap-up can be overwhelming, but we're here to help. We've compiled this year's craziest SDCC announcements and reveals, along with some odd new rumors that are going to keep fans guessing. If your favorite thing doesn't make the list, we apologize in advance — there is just so much to cover. Have no fear, though, there is plenty here to keeps fans occupied.

Here are the 21 Craziest Comic-Con Announcements (And 5 Weirdest Possibilities).
26 Aquaman
The DC Universe has been quiet since the disappointment of Justice League, but the franchise seems to have a new hope on its hands. The highly anticipated trailer for Aquaman shows off Atlantis, the supporting cast, and the film's villains.
It's a major visual departure from the previous films in the DCEU.
Attendees of the panel were shown exclusive extra footage that highlighted Aquaman's relationship with his parents, an action scene between Aquaman and Black Manta, and Aquaman's signature orange and green outfit.
Atlantis looks appropriately sci-fi, the color palette is bright and upbeat, and overall it seems like a ton of fun.
25 Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Somebody should tell Kong that there's a new king in town - or at least there will be, on May 31st next year.
The trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters comes complete with jaw-dropping visuals, a star-studded cast, and plenty of disaster movie destruction. It features a surprisingly uplifting tone,predominantly highlighting the majesty of the monsters - now called formally named Titans. It seems equal parts thoughtful Jurassic Park thriller and colorful Jurassic World spectacle — except way bigger.
The film is directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus) and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Thomas Middleditch, Sally Hawkins, Ken Watanabe, and Charles Dance.
24 POSSIBILITY: New Name For The DCEU
Some things may have been blown out of proportion amidst all the DC news. It seemed like the company had finally settled on a name for its shared cinematic universe - but maybe not.
For those unaware, the DC Extended Universe (or DCEU) is an unofficial term for the DC movie franchise, and not an official name.
The DCEU's newly official name is "Worlds of DC," — or at least, everybody thought it was until it turned out that this phrase was presented to the Comic-Con crowd for sizzle, and not as an official announcement.
It's the closest thing to a name that the franchise has, but apparently you can still call it whatever you want.
23 Star Wars: The Clone Wars Returns
Fans were looking forward to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars 10-Year-Anniversary panel. Little did anybody know that the show would be returning!
Lucasfilm announced that The Clone Wars would be revived with 12 new episodes set for release on Disney's upcoming digital streaming service. The unexpected announcement came with an even more unexpected trailer reveal, hinting at forward-jump in time and a new story arc that may serve to wrap up loose ends.
The show has an altered art style, and the trailer places much emphasis on the Clone troopers themselves.
With Star Wars: Rebels complete and radio silence on the upcoming Star Wars: Resistance, this sounds like something the galaxy desperately needed.
22 Walking Dead Star Exiting after Season 9
The long-running zombie drama is returning for yet another season. With the war against Negan and the Saviors finally over, Rick and the gang face new enemies — the Whisperers. Oh, and maybe each other.
The trailer is packed with action and glimpses at all your favorite survivors, as well as a jailed and bearded Negan.
Every year The Walking Dead makes a splash at Comic-Con, but this panel was unfortunately bittersweet. Andrew Lincoln sadly confirmed that this upcoming season would be his last as Rick Grimes.
Rumors indicate that Norman Reedus' character Daryl Dixon may take over as protagonist, though the effects of Lincoln's departure remain to be seen.
21 The new Doctor Who and companions
The Doctor is in, with a new trailer for the eleventh season of Doctor Who. While a teaser was released over a week ago, the series's full trailer debuted at Comic-Con and finally shows Jodie Whitaker's new take on the Doctor in action.
The trailer spotlights the Doctor's three new companions: Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan, Bradley Walsh as Graham O'Brien, and Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair.
It doesn't give much away in terms of plot, only revealing a few out-of-context action shots.
It's only a small taste of the newest season likely with more to come, as the show premieres this fall on the BBC network.
20 Venom Footage
Sony Pictures treated Comic-Con attendees with some exclusive footage of the upcoming Venom film. The footage played like an extended trailer, featuring some clips from the original two trailers with new ones added in.
Among the new footage was Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock getting his bones broken and healed by Venom, Venom biting a man's head off in a convenience store, and a fight sequence featuring Riz Ahmed's Carlton Drake and an unknown, female symbiote.
It was revealed that Carlton Drake would merge with a symbiote and become the comic character Riot, and Tom Hardy expressed his love for the role as well as his willingness to crossover with (and fight) Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
19 POSSIBILITY — Sony's Video Game Movie With James Gunn
For those who haven't heard, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was unceremoniously fired this weekend on account of controversial, decade-old tweets. Not only was he removed from the Disney-Marvel world, but Sony seems to want to follow suit.
During Sony Pictures' Comic-Con presentation, James Gunn's new film was scheduled to be announced.
Once his sudden removal went viral, Sony pulled the plug and removed his project from the panel.
The project was reportedly going to be feature-adaption of the hit Playstation game, Bloodborne. Sony's mystery film has remained unannounced and it is unclear if Gunn is still attached.
18 It: Chapter Two Footage
While the sequel is currently in the middle of filming, the folks behind 2017's It brought a special treat to Comic-Con — a behind-the-scenes featurette.
The It: Chapter Two footage was exclusive to con-goers, revealing a bit about the film's production and giving fans their first real look at the adult cast of the Losers Club. Although this featurette mostly stayed behind the camera, it did give a glimpse at the Chinese restaurant where the Losers Club will reunite this coming September.
The film stars some pretty big names, including James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader. It director Andy Muschetti and Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard are returning as well, which should give fans some peace of mind.
17 Iron Fist Season 2
While Marvel Studios didn't make a showing this year, Marvel Television came through with Iron Fist season 2.
The first season was not well-received, but what was revealed shows promise.
The fight choreography is said to be getting more stylish, the show will place an emphasis on Colleen Wing and Misty Knight, Typhoid Mary will appear as an antagonist, and flashback scenes depict young Danny Rand in the classic yellow mask.
It might not be Avengers 4, but all-in-all, it seems like Marvel brought a lot to be excited for. It sounds like this season won't be afraid to dive into Iron Fist's comic book roots, which is something the first season mistakenly avoided.
16 Titans
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the live-action Teen Titans series for years now, and many of those same fans are no longer onboard.
The trailer for Titans was immediately divisive upon its release. The marketing suggests that the show's tone is extremely angsty — about as dark and serious as Batman v Superman. It doesn't help that this divisive trailer is supposed to draw customers to DC's exclusive streaming service, where the show will be premiering.
The trailer's most infamous moment — a close-up on Robin casually cursing out Batman — has already become a huge internet meme.
The show has time to course-correct, but Titans seems to have fumbled its big reveal.
15 Glass
After 2016's hit thriller Split turned out to be a backdoor pilot for an Unbreakable cinematic universe, the hype cycle was on for Glass. The new trailer shows the return of Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson as David Dunn and Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass.
The characters seem to be patients in a mental institution and are being questioned by Dr. Ellie Staple, played by Sarah Paulson. The trailer promises a focus on the Mr. Glass character as well as a team up between himself and James McAvoy's character from Split, known as the Horde.
Glass hits theaters on January 18, 2019, as the third film in M. Night Shyamalan's trilogy.
14 POSSIBILITY — Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
James Gunn's sudden firing will likely be a controversial topic for weeks to come, but many fans are already wondering what will happen to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The film was set to be one of the the MCU's headlining films for it's next phase, and the sudden removal of James Gunn jeopardizes the franchise's rigid release schedule.
Many fans and critics have suggested Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi as a replacement.
Gunn's removal is probably the biggest roadblock that the franchise has ever hit. A petition for Disney to rehire Gunn has been put together by supporters, and already has over 130,000 signatures at the time of this writing.
13 Voltron Season 7
A trailer for season 7 of the hit Netflix series suggests a darker tone as the Voltron Paladins head back to Earth — which is now a target for the villainous Galra Empire.
Along with this trailer came some big news — Shiro, Paladin of the Black Lion, was revealed to be gay. The trailer only hints at it, but the showrunners explained that the next season will introduce Adam, Shiro's ex-fiancé that he left back on Earth.
Sadly, with the good news came some bad news. It was also revealed that Voltron: Legendary Defender will end after season 8, leaving little airtime left for the animated series.
12 Shazam!
Alongside the big Aquaman reveal was the trailer for Shazam!, which looks way more promising than most people anticipated.
The movie seems to be a combination of a straightforward origin story and lighthearted comedy inspired by Big.
A young Billy Batson is transformed into the superpowered Shazam with an aptly-named magic word, suddenly turning him into a full-grown Zachary Levi. Levi seems to have a ton of love for the role as he goofs off and flosses around in the trailer.
It's another shift in tone for the dark and grim DCEU, but the footage is one of the biggest hits from SDCC this year.
11 Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Trailer
Not only did Johnny Depp show up to the Warner Bros. panel in character, but a full trailer was released that promises more magic, more beasts, and a surprising amount of action.
The trailer gave fans a better look at Depp as the villainous Grindelwald, as well as Jude Law's Dumbledore and flashbacks to Newt Scamander studying at Hogwarts.
The emphasis on action is no exaggeration, either — the trailer is predominantly made up of action sequences, perhaps to make up for their surprising lack in the first film.
10 Deadly Class
Most comic book television is relegated to superheroes, but Deadly Class is getting ready to shake things up. Based on Rick Remender's comic of the same name, this anarchist coming-of-age story centers on Marcus Lopez Arguello, a teen who ends up enrolling in a secret school for assassins.
The SyFy show is created by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers: Infinity War.
A trailer for the series released at SDCC, showing off an ensemble cast, high production values, and the intense action that the Russos are known for.
Deadly Class sounds like it could be the next big thing, so you might want to binge those books before the premiere.
9 POSSIBILITY: Are Venom And Spider-Man Connected?
Sony and Marvel seem to go back and forth on this question, with Sony often going to great lengths to avoid giving a straight answer.
All signs point to Venom being unrelated to the MCU, but the SDCC panel suggested otherwise.
Tom Hardy expressed that he is open to working with Tom Holland in a Venom/Spider-Man crossover, though these two are in totally separate franchises. It sounds like Sony and Marvel are still debating their sharing of the Spider-Man film rights, but these wishy-washy stances are getting old.
Ironically, the exclusive footage shown reportedly depicted Venom without the iconic spider-symbol on his chest, which suggests further disconnect between Venom and the friendly neighborhood web-slinger.
8 Bumblebee Footage
The team behind the Transformers reboot-prequel-spinoff-standalone-origin story gave fans an exclusive look during the Paramount Picutures panel — to the tune of Stan Bush's "(You Got) The Touch" for good measure.
The footage featured Bumblebee and John Cena in a standoff, as well as the film's new Decepticons: Blitzwing, Dropkick, and Shatter. It highlighted Bumblebee's relationship with Hailee Steinfeld's character Charlie, and seems to be emulating its Spielbergian influences. Oh, and Optimus Prime cameos via hologram.
While many are still skeptical of the supposed reboot, director Travis Knight seems desperate to undo the damage Michael Bay has done. It leans into the early incarnations of the Transformers, which might be just what this series needs.
7 Young Justice Season 3
Young Justice fans were outraged upon its cancellation back in 2013, but now they can rejoice.
The first trailer for season three, Young Justice: Outsiders, has been released and it is everything fans have hoped for.
The trailer recaps the first two seasons before showing a surprising amount of season three footage. Most of the cast is returning alongside some new characters, as well as plenty of DC hero and villain cameos just waiting to be spotted.
It's probably been a while since you last watched Young Justice, but now is a good time to binge. Young Justice: Outsiders will premiere on the DC Universe streaming service in 2019.
6 Archer: 1999
This beloved spy show is returning for its tenth and possibly final season, Archer: 1999. While the series has dabbled in noir and fantasy, season ten seems to be going full sci-fi by taking the gang to outer space.
This season will have Archer and Lana captaining a spaceship on an interstellar journey and will have most of the cast redesigned for science fiction. Cheryl will be a starship pilot, Pam will be an alien creature, and Archer's mother Mallory will be the ship's sentient (and probably evil) artificial intelligence.
Putting something "in space" has always been a desparate last resort — but for Archer, this sounds likea perfectly hilarious way to wrap things up.
5 The Return Of Marvel Knights
Switching gears to some comic news, the beloved Marvel Knights imprint is back!
The company announced that it would be reviving the Knights books, with "showrunner" and writer Donny Cates at the helm. This is extremely great news, especially given Donny Cates' great track record with Marvel and his stellar runs on Doctor Strange, Venom, and Cosmic Ghost Rider.
Marvel Knights ran from 1998 to 2013, and told fan-favorite stories that focused on the lesser known Marvel characters (at the time) like Daredevil, Punisher, and the Inhumans. Some of those characters' best stories come from that imprint, so hopefully the new Knights can live up to the legacy.
4 POSSIBILITY: An Optimus Prime Movie
It almost seems like a no-brainer, right?
While no such project is officially in the works, Optimus Prime's voice actor Peter Cullen showed up at the Bumblebee panel and teased it.
During the Q&A, Cullen grabbed the mic and spoke in character. He (Optimus) noted his absence in much of the Bumblebee footage and asked "What does an Autobot have to do to get his own movie?"
Optimus reportedly has a small role in the Bumblebee film, and although this is probably just playful banter between Cullen and Knight, it sounds like a great way to follow up this soft-reboot of the Transformers franchise.
3 Cloak And Dagger Season 2
It should come as no surprise that Cloak and Dagger is receiving a green light for a second season after a successful debut earlier in the summer. The show put up some big numbers for the Freeform network, and fans have taken to the two new heroes with enthusiasm.
The show's first season still has two episodes left to air, which were teased during the Marvel panel as well.
Little was said about season two's plot, with the only tidbit being the phrase "Season 2 will be mayhem" from the show's official twitter account. Cloak and Dagger returns in 2019.
2 DC Television Trailer featuring Batwoman
The Arrowverse and affliated DC television shows all received one massive trailer during SDCC, consisting of new footage side-by-side with comic book panels.
The trailer features a huge cast of characters and just goes to show how populated the DC TV universe really is. The best part of it all? There is a newcomer joining the ranks.
It was announced weeks ago that an Arrowverse crossover event would introduce Batwoman, which would segue into her own upcoming television series. While that certainly has fans excited, the trailer puts an emphasis on the character as well as Gotham City as a setting.
Who will join the Batwoman series? Could we see more of the Bat-family?
1 Wonder Woman 1984 Footage
The cast of Wonder Woman 1984 spoke about returning for the upcoming sequel, which has only just started shooting weeks ago. Even more surprising though — they brought exclusive footage!
What they presented was short, but early clips depict Wonder Woman wearing her full suit of armor confronting armed criminals in a colorful shopping mall. She saves a little girl before taking out the gunmen, which is followed by a clip of her running down the street at high speed.
It was only a small tease of what's to come, but with the cast returning as well as director Patty Jenkins, this may be one of the most anticipated movies of 2019.
