Danielle Panabaker, who plays Dr. Caitlin Snow on The Flash, will direct an episode in season 5 of The CW series. She's played a significant part of Team Flash since the series premiered a few years ago, and that role has not diminished in any way with her also becoming Killer Frost. And it looks like she will soon get more to do behind the scenes.
Season 4 of The Flash saw Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team finally defeat The Thinker (Neal Sandilands) and put an end to his plan to erase the intelligence of everyone on the planet. The upcoming season is expected to introduce a new threat which will most likely be tied to Jessica Parker Kennedy, who in the closing moments of the season 4 finale was revealed to be Barry and Iris' daughter from the future, Nora. The time-travelling speedster apparently made a "big mistake," which may be haunting both her and Team Flash over the course of the show's fifth season.

In an interview with ET, Panabaker revealed that she'll be directing an episode of season 5. The episode will be Panabaker's first time in the director's chair. Panabaker says she's "especially honored" that her directorial debut will be an episode of The Flash. The title of the episode and where it fits in the season have yet to be announced.
"I am so humbled by this opportunity to utilize everything that I have learned as a storyteller to bring an episode of The Flash to life. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have the chance to work alongside our extremely talented (and vast) team that works so hard to make each and every episode of the show. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my Flash family, and I am so thankful for this opportunity to continue to grow and challenge myself as an artist."

Panabaker isn't the first member of the cast to direct an episode. Tom Cavanagh, who plays various versions of Harrison Wells, directed the season 3 episode, "The Once and Future Flash," followed up by the season 4 episode, "Elongated Journey Into Night."
Fans will be in for a few changes when season 5 airs. Jessica Parker Kennedy, Hartley Sawyer, and Danielle Nicolet have all been promoted from recurring roles to series regulars. Sawyer's Elongated Man, who slowly grew into a team player after developing his powers, died at the hands of the Thinker but was restored in life in the aftermath of the final showdown in the season finale. Nicolet's character, Cecile, will understandably receive an expanded role now that she's the mother of Barry's sister.
Details on the main villain for season 5 are still being kept under wraps, but there's a rumor that Team Flash will be facing off against Cicada, a powerful villain from the comics whose goal is to kill everyone who was ever saved by the Flash. More information on season 5 of The Flash is expected to be unveiled at the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con this Saturday.
