The Simpsons Travel To Jurassic Park in Comic-Con 2018 Poster

The Simpsons' San Diego Comic-Con 2018 poster has been released. Promoting the upcoming 29th installment of "Treehouse of Horror", The Simpsons seems to have found its latest inspiration in this year's blockbuster film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - yet with its own Springfield twist.

As memorable and unique as the opening couch scenes, The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" is an episode all its own. Since season 2, "Treehouse of Horror" episodes have been an annual Halloween tradition presented to audiences in a three-part segment. Each segment typically parodies horror, science fiction, or the supernatural, breaking away from the continuity of the series. Usually released around the ghoulish holiday, it is a yearly staple that is not to be missed.

FOX released The Simpsons' SDCC poster for "Treehouse of Horror" today (via IndieWire). It highlights Jurassic Park, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and The Three Faces of Eve, which are all expected to be parodied in the upcoming episode. Released with the summary, "Homer wins an oyster-eating contest against the mythical Cthulhu, Springfield is overrun by plant body-snatchers, Lisa finally snaps, and Mr. Burns opens a retirement home with some Jurassic upgrade," it seems the horror of the treehouse may at times be closer to real life. While the Geriatric Park featured in the poster seems a parody of science fiction, both plant body-snatchers and the Cthulhu cosmic entity speak to the satirizing of current horrors in modern politics. While there is no current premiere date for the upcoming "Treehouse of Horror XXIX" episode, with its upcoming promotion at this week's SDCC, fan may not have to wait long before one is released.

This is a big year for The Simpsons with the series celebrating its 30th anniversary when it returns to FOX in September.  Created in 1989 by Matt Groening, The Simpsons has been a Sunday night staple, long before the dawn of Animation Domination on the FOX network. Yet, while their image has changed over the years, once a ragged and rough drawing, their message of family and the witty humor that surrounds each episode has never ceased. And, as their milestone premiere looms, so does the controversy surrounding its character Apu. While the depiction of an Indian immigrant has been called into question by viewers around the world, The Simpsons failed to appease audiences when finally addressing the issue this past April.

As the series looks to a monumental year, they will also be looking at an audience that demands more modernizing in the material it showcases. With the upcoming Simpsons panel at SDCC - which takes place this Saturday at noon in Ballroom 20 - the questions surrounding the 30th anniversary, the upcoming "Treehouse of Horror" episode, and Apu are likely to be asked.
