AMC's The Walking Dead is adding Dan Fogler to its ensemble cast. Fogler is best known for his performance of Jacob Kowalski in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and he's set to reprise his role in this year's sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The Walking Dead is heading into its ninth season, which will be Andrew Lincoln's last season on the show. Season 9 will see some familiar faces, such as Jon Bernthal, who is set to return as Rick Grimes' friend-turned-enemy Shane Walsh. It'll likely be a flashback or dream sequence considering Shane died in season 2. Former cast member Michael Cudlitz is returning as well, though he's signed on direct episode 7; he won't be appearing on screen this time around. Cudlitz played Sgt. Abraham Ford on the series, and he lost his life in the season 7 premiere at the hands of Negan. This will be the actor's first turn as director, not to mention the first time a former cast member directs an episode. The news of Fogler's casting comes after Tony Award-nominated actor Lauren Ridloff joined the cast as Connie.

According to ComicBook , Fogler's role is being kept under wraps. The AMC show has, in its history, lost key characters and introduced new ones. Season 9 will mark a new phase for The Walking Dead as they move into a different part of the story and depart with Rick Grimes. The next phase will also mark a jump in time for the series, not to mention taking place in a new setting: Washington, D.C. The show will enter a new feel the likes of a Western as the world around the characters continues to crumble.
With Fogler's addition, the actor will meet the established cast as the series moves into its new direction. Fogler isn't widely known for his dramatic roles, being mostly a comedy actor, but this is one of the rare occasions in which The Walking Dead lands a movie star after they've made a name for themselves on the big screen.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them catapulted the actor to fame as he was met with the large Harry Potter fan base. The actor did, however, appear on a few episodes of the short lived series Hannibal in 2013, with a similar dark tone to that of The Walking Dead. With little information on Fogler's character, fans may have to wait until the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con to learn more about Fogler's character and what will be at stake for the characters when season 9 returns this fall on AMC.
