Jesse Tyler Ferguson Appears on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

On the heels of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's recently announced reboot with host Jesse Tyler Ferguson, comes the announcement that Black-ish’s Anthony Anderson will be one of the first celebrity special guests.  The popular home version of the Extreme Makeover franchise will return to our screens in 2020 with the 49-year-old Modern Family star replacing original host, Ty Pennington.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, originally aired on ABC from 2003 to 2012. The reboot will be a 10 episode season premiering in early 2020 on HGTV. The popular makeover show selects families from across the country and provides them with well deserved whole-house makeovers. The show often focuses on families who have experienced a recent hardship or trauma, as well as local community heroes. The format involves sending the family on a fully paid one week vacation, during which time the show, coordinating with local contractors, comes in and documents the remodel of the home including interior, exterior and landscaping.

HGTV announced Wednesday, via People, that one of their first celebrity guest stars will be Anthony Anderson. The Black-ish star and executive producer has appeared previously on several Food Network, HGTV’s sister network, properties including  Chopped and Iron Chef America, as well as appearing as the host of Carnival Cravings. About his appearance on the first season of the reboot of this iconic home makeover show Anderson has said, "On Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I will be part of making a real impact on a family’s future."

While no there has been no other news regarding the other celebrity guest stars we will see in the remaining 9 episodes of this season, there has been some news of locations and homeowners. Host Ferguson recently revealed via Instagram post that an episode was being filmed in Clovis, California with local firefighter Nick Reeder, a single father of three. While the previous host, Ty Pennington has turned the reigns over to Ferguson, it has been announced that he will still make an appearance on the newly revamped version as a renovator who takes a hands-on role in the rebuilds.

While Anderson's trademark humor and likeability will surely work well with those same traits Jessie Tyler Ferguson will bring to the new HGTV version of the iconic show, it will be interesting to see how the changes impact the overall vibe and future success of the show. Will it be able to successfully bring back fans of the original while attracting a new crop of home improvement and makeover show fans? Will the show be able to repeat the amazing success of its predecessor? Only time will tell but with stars like this at the helm the outlook is positive for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition reboot.
