Is 90 Day Fiancé Fake? Executive Slams Rumors | Screen Rant

There have been rumors from former 90 Day Fiancé stars that the show is fake. A TLC executive recently slammed the rumors about the show's reality. He also delivered some interesting tidbits about 90 Day's casting process.

Season 7 of 90 Day Fiancé recently concluded, with its widely popular reunion specials closing out the latest installment. The popular reality program debuted in 2014 and quickly became a ratings juggernaut for its network, TLC. However, the show has been dogged by rumors that some of its participants and their story lines are not real. During season 3 of the spin-off series 90 Day Fiancé:Before the 90 Days, cast member Caesar Mack came under fire when sources took to social media to refute his relationship with the elusive Ukrainian beauty, Maria. Most recently, 90 Day Fiancé experienced a backlash when it was reported that a heated conversation involving cast members Anny from the Dominican Republic, her American fiancé Robert, and his son's porn star grandmother, Stephanie Woodcock, was faked for the cameras. During the verbal altercation, Woodcock and her boyfriend attempted to bribe Anny to leave the US, which elicited a defiant on-camera response from the couple.

Alon Orstein, TLC's senior vice president of production and development spoke to E! Online about the show and its authenticity. He reassured fans that all of what's seen on the television is real, at least the storylines. He said, "The real calling card of TLC and certainly with 90 Day Fiancé is that it is authentic. We're not putting these couples together; these people aren't actors. These are real people and it's all about individuals looking for ‘the one.' And sometimes it's across thousands of miles and sometimes they haven't known each other for very long, but these are all people who have connected on their own and we want to be that fly on the wall who's along for the ride."

Many of the scenarios on 90 Day Fiancé  appear to be stranger than fiction. In the story line of Brazilian model Juliana and Connecticut entrepreneur Michael, his ex-wife Sarah actually officiated the couple's wedding. For some viewers, the show's credibility is called into question based on the casting choices. There have been many couples with significant age differences, as well as couples that are aesthetically mismatched. Orstein notes that sometimes they meet a person who is an automatic fit for the show. Other times, they might be on the fence and need to meet with that individual numerous times, or get a bit more information about their situation by meeting with family members.

Through it all, 90 Day Fiancé has proven itself to be the perfect marriage between informative programming and over-the-top reality TV shenanigans. Viewers who many not have known much about the K-1 visa are now well-versed in the trials and tribulations of the process. The franchise has also given fans the chance to bond with many of the couples by showcasing them in related areas such as 90 Day Fiancé Pillow Talk as well as reunion and follow-up specials. Like much of reality television, there may be the occasional moment where producers have to arrange a conversation or a sit-down among cast members. Is that tampering with reality? It certainly depends on who you ask.
