It appears the wait is almost over, as Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be featured in an upcoming Nintendo Direct livestream on February 20th, just a few days from now. Fans have been anxiously hoping for more information about the newest Animal Crossing game since it was first announced during a Nintendo Direct broadcast in September of 2018, but the company has been rather silent on the subject since its delay was revealed a year later.
The delay of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which was announced during Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct presentation, also came with a new trailer for Animal Crossing: New Horizons which showed off an apparently more robust character creation system as well as the ability for players to utilize their Nookphone to interact with others and spend time together on each others islands in a form of multiplayer. Although the delay was met with disappointment from some fans, Nintendo has stated this was necessary in order to allow their employees to have a healthy amount of work and home balance in their lives, rather than forcing their teams to crunch towards the end of the development cycle.
Now, it appears the long wait for more information about the game is finally almost over, as Nintendo has officially announced via Twitter that they will be hosting an Animal Crossing Direct livestream on February 20, 2020. The message, which is embedded below, asks all interested players to tune in at 9 AM EST (or 6 AM PST) for a twenty-five minute livestream which will feature an "in-depth look at Nook Inc.'s Deserted Island Getaway Package!"
Just exactly what all is included in Nook Inc.'s Deserted Island Getaway Package has yet to be revealed, although there are some players who suggest it could be some form of DLC, while others think it could just be a way for the company to present their players with all of the game's new features. Recently, Nintendo had posted an ESRB rating on Animal Crossing: New Horizons' store page which labelled the game as having in-game purchases included, although that rating has since been changed and the references to in-app purchases removed from its score. While some players wouldn't mind a little bit of paid DLC to flesh out their Animal Crossing experience, it seems the vast majority want to have nothing to do with it.
Fans are desperate to get their hands on a new Animal Crossing game, as evidenced by the massive amount of likes and retweets Nintendo's recent announcement has amassed over the short time it's been up online. Hopefully, the recent outbreaks of coronavirus which was falsely rumored to impact the production of the Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch will also not have any effect on this game's release, and everyone who is looking forward to calling their friends' Nookphones will be able to do so in just over a month's time, as Animal Crossing: New Horizons is slated to release on March 20, 2020.
