One of the most pivotal characters in the entire Star Wars franchise, Luke Skywalker has been the hero of thousands of fans ever since he first appeared in George Lucas's Star Wars in 1977. His cinematic journey from innocent farm boy to tempered Jedi Knight over the course of Lucas's original Star Wars trilogy was exciting, emotional, and iconic.
When he reappeared decades later in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, he was a much more controversial figure, weathered by years of galactic turmoil, guilt, and isolation. But beneath his gruff exterior, the curmudgeonly Jedi Master was still the hero of legend. Here are 10 incredible Luke Skywalker cosplays that look just like him from across several films.
10 TWIN SUNS
When Luke was just a farm boy on Tatooine, he'd stare out into the twin suns and wonder where his place was in the galaxy. Never could he have imagined the adventure that awaited him once two droids showed up at the Lars homestead.
This moody cosplay photographed by Darryl Moran perfectly showcases the innocence that Luke had before being caught up in the Galactic Civil War, and learning the ways of the Force to become a Jedi like his father.
9 TRIPLE THREAT
Out of all the characters in the original Star Wars trilogy, Luke changes his costume the most. In every film he gets at least two ensemble changes, but in The Empire Strikes Back, he got four; his gear for patrolling Echo Base, his Snowspeeder suit, his X-Wing suit, and the outfit he wore training with Yoda and on Cloud City.
Cosplayer Christina, who also happens to be a member of the 501st Legion, has expertly put together outfits for three of Luke's looks from The Empire Strikes Back, and they're all of stunning cinematic quality.
8 DO, OR DO NOT
One of the standout sequences in The Empire Strikes Back (and indeed any of the Star Wars films) happened when Luke Skywalker encountered Yoda. The pint-sized and ancient Jedi Master put him through his paces training in the ways of the Force, amusing fans every step of the way.
Cosplayer Ken Blomi created this screen-accurate ensemble featuring none other than Yoda himself. Many of the components such as the fatigues, boot coverings, and Yoda head came from makers and artists, which Blomi assembled and weathered, adding a customized blaster and lightsaber for dramatic effect.
7 IT TAKES TWO TO TAUNTAUN
The tauntauns that appeared in The Empire Strikes Back were the work of movie magic, aka expert puppetry and stop-motion animation. They could survive the harsh temperatures of Hoth and the Rebel Alliance used them as mounts for patrolling Echo Base and its surroundings.
Case_leatherwork has recreated Luke Skywalker on his faithful tauntaun, a process which took approximately four months. This cosplay rivals anything similar worn by adults at conventions, with incredibly painstaking attention to detail.
6 THE DEATH STAR DUEL
Luke's costume took a dramatic turn in Return of the Jedi, when the callow farm boy from Tatooine stepped into the role of Jedi Knight. Though he wore the color palette of the dark side, he was a beacon of light that stood for hope in the galaxy.
Cosplayer Vualo-k has faithfully recreated the black-clad ensemble Luke wore in Return of the Jedi when he sought Darth Vader's redemption. Unfortunately, it ended with a destructive duel in the Emperor's throne room. The dynamic nature of the photo perfectly captures the dramatic tension of the scene.
5 JEDI KNIGHT
The pensive and self-possessed Luke Skywalker of Return of the Jedi was a far cry from the whiny farm boy he'd been on Tatooine when his galactic adventures began. When he arrived at Jabba's palace to free Han Solo, he cut an impressive silhouette in his black ensemble and long brown cloak.
Seen here in the hooded repose he espoused when he first stepped into Jabba's throne room, cosplayer itsLOKI has managed to capture his serene confidence. He was sure of himself and his powers, and she brings an incredible amount of emotion to his face.
4 THE LOST JEDI
The Luke Skywalker fans meet in Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a Jedi who is disillusioned with the Force, as well as the Jedi Order as a whole. He has lost his way from the light side, and struggles with matters of the Jedi's hypocrisy.
This enigmatic cosplay from Aniventure Comic Con 2018 conveys Luke in a brooding portrait of the Jedi Master, a man for whom the Jedi Order once held such optimism. But when he couldn't even prevent his own nephew Ben Solo from falling to the dark side, he felt he had no business training Jedi ever again.
3 USE THE FORCE, LUKE
When Luke Skywalker reappeared in the Disney sequel trilogy, he became one of the most divisive characters in the entire Star Wars franchise. But regardless of whether or not fans loved or hated him, seeing Luke in complete mastery of his Jedi powers was a delight (however tragic his sacrifice was).
This simple but effective cosplay by John Brummet depicts Luke as he appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Though the costume is impressive by itself, it's the ingenuity behind making Luke a "Force ghost" that makes it most impressive.
2 MASTER SKYWALKER
When the moment came for fans to finally get a glimpse of Luke Skywalker in the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it was like seeing an old friend after too long apart. Decades had gone by, and he was much changed, but there was comfort in his familiar furrowed brow.
It's like seeing double with Old Man Skywalker's cosplay - you'd swear he was Mark Hamill himself. From the screen-accurate outfit (made by his wife) to the eerily on point wig, beard, and aging makeup, he's the spitting image of Master Skywalker, remote hermit of Ahch-To.
1 FLUKE SKYWALKER
Luke Skywalker wasn't doing any Jedi training on Ahch-To by the time Rey caught up with him in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, she learned that most of his days were filled with foraging for green milk and poaching fish.
Noted Master Skywalker cosplayer Fluke Skywalker (who impersonates the character for charity) looks like he walked off the set of The Last Jedi, in both Luke's foraging ensemble and his majestic Jedi robes.
