Metro Exodus PS5 & Xbox Series X Versions' Impressive Specs Revealed

Metro Exodus will be coming to the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year and it will boast an impressive array of features and capabilities that aim to take full advantage of what the current-gen consoles have to offer. Metro Exodus is one of many last-gen titles that are receiving upgrades so that players will be able to play them on their new consoles.

Metro Exodus was developed by 4A Games and released in February of 2019. It is the newest installment in the popular Metro series, following Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light. The game was released to generally positive reviews and was one of the first games to be released that utilized ray tracing technology, though this was only on PC. The Metro games are based off a popular novel series of the same name by Russian author, Dmitri Glukhovsky. The post-apocalyptic franchise has remained popular in both gaming and reading circles.

According to a post by 4A Games on the  Metro Exodus website, the current-gen versions of the game will boast some very impressive features that will improve the title in numerous ways. The game will run with full 4K/60 FPS capabilities and ray tracing technology that both the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 are capable of using. Metro Exodus is also gaining an FOV slider feature that will allow players to further adjust their graphical setup across various platforms. It is even detailed that 4A Games are trying to get the Xbox version of the game to run as close to 1080p as possible. The Playstation 5 version of the game will also utilize the groundbreaking DualSense haptic feedback technology. According to 4A Games, recharging in-game equipment with the battery charger and reloading the game's many weapons never felt so good.

Alongside the new console versions, the game will also be receiving a large PC upgrade to keep the game up to date with the latest graphical capabilities on PCs. One of the biggest features detailed in this post is the fact that ray tracing will be coming to the current-gen versions of the game while this feature was only available on PC previously. Ray Tracing is newer technology that originated on computers and finally became mainstream on consoles with the release of the PS5 and Xbox Series X. As previously stated, Metro Exodus was one of the first games to utilize this dynamic lighting technology, which can accurately simulate how light acts within a virtual environment as opposed to previous techniques used by developers, such as various work arounds that allow the game to appear as if it is simulating the environment's lighting effects.

The game will also see various quality of life and system improvements across all platforms once the new versions release. 4A Games has given the game a considerable amount of post-launch support. About a month after the game was released, the large Ranger Update added a New Game + mode alongside many fixes to glitches and bugs. The game also saw the release of two story expansions, Sam's Story and The Two Colonels. Metro Exodus was positively received by fans of the franchise as it saw the series' main protagonist, Artyom, exploring parts of the world's surface as opposed to the largely subterranean focus of previous installments. These upgrades should allow a new generation of gamers to enjoy the post-apocalyptic adventure.
