A fan-made Funko Pop! reimagines Mr. Bean as Iron Man. The former is the iconic comedy character created by British actor Rowan Atkinson, whose largely physical antics have delighted audiences around the world since the 1990s. The latter, meanwhile, has become one of the world's most well-known superheroes since he was portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in 2008's Iron Man, the first film of the now-ubiquitous Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU has been playing with a lot of its established history in recent months, since introducing the multiverse as a key element of Phase IV in the Disney+ series Loki. Currently, the animated anthology series What If...? has run with this concept in small, self-contained stories, with each episode exploring how a single change in the past would have played out. Iron Man was a focus of episode 6, "What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?", which explores what could have happened if the central trauma that resulted in Stark building the first Iron Man suit was prevented by the eventual villain of Black Panther.
Now, a fan has taken it upon themselves to ask another question: What if Mr. Bean was Iron Man? This design for a Funko Pop! from Instagram user popvinylguy has Atkinson's bumbling character dressed in Stark's red-and-gold armor, save for the helmet, which reveals Mr. Bean's distinctive haircut and mole on his left cheek. His arm is extended, but instead of holding out his repulsor as the MCU's Iron Man typically would, this reimagining is instead showing off his beloved stuffed animal, Teddy. Take a look at the design below:
While this demonstrates the love for both Mr. Bean and Iron Man, it's very likely fans will have to be content with animated portrayals of those characters for the foreseeable future. Tony Stark was killed at the climax of Avengers: Endgame in a particularly poignant moment for MCU fans, and while death can be a loose concept in the comics-inspired franchise, Downey Jr. has expressed his intent to move on from the role. Atkinson, meanwhile, has also said he has tired of playing his most recognizable character in live action, but a new animated Mr. Bean film is currently in development.
The hypothetical of this fan-made Funko Pop! is good for a chuckle, but it's hard to imagine it would be good news for humanity. Should an episode of What If...? explore what would have happened if the defense of New York City from Loki's invasion were left up to Iron Bean, the result would probably be a humorous catastrophe, and the Asgardian trickster god might have actually realized his dream of subjugating Earth. Although, things do always seem to work out for Mr. Bean in the end, so perhaps he would make a better Iron Man than one would expect.
