Stargate Meticulously Recreated With LEGO Is Super Accurate To Show

A meticulously recreated Stargate made of LEGO is super accurate to the franchise. The instantaneous travel device was introduced in the 1994 science-fiction film Stargate from director Roland Emmerich and carried forward in a variety of media. Most famously, the concept spawned a few successful TV series, including Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis.

With a premise based on the theory that past human civilizations received extraterrestrial aid, Stargate has humanity discover a wormhole device allowing interplanetary travel in Giza, Egypt, learning that Ancient Egyptian deities were based on an alien race called the Goa'uld. The first series, SG1, takes place a year after the events of the film and expands beyond Egyptian mythology, exploring the influence of Stargates on Ancient Greek and Norse societies, as well as Arthurian legend. Though the series received little critical attention during its original run, it developed a strong fanbase and lasted for 10 seasons.

One such fan, clearly, is CaptainMutant, a LEGO Ideas user who has submitted a design for a Stargate LEGO set. In honor of the 25th anniversary of Stargate SG1, the design recreates the Stargate inside the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs, making use of a recently released piece to achieve the circular structure. The set even includes minifigures of popular characters like Colonel Jack O'Neil and Teal'c, as well as two Jaffa warriors complete with brick-built staffs. Check out pictures of the proposed design below, along with a video set to the SG1 theme song:

The LEGO Ideas site allows users to submit designs for potential LEGO sets, with the goal of each being to earn the support of 10,000 fellow users. Once that happens, the design is automatically triggered for review, and while they can still be rejected (commonly on intellectual property grounds), those that pass are actually produced and sold. CaptainMutant's Stargate proposal currently sits at over 950 supporters, with over a year left to accrue the necessary votes.

The possibility of building their very own Stargate is sure to appeal to Stargate SG1 fans, and to prove the design is actually possible, CaptainMutant chose to upload real photos instead of digital renders. Made up of 850 pieces, the proposal promises the set would be a "fun, original and affordable way to celebrate the show." Joining the list of supporters requires creating a free LEGO Ideas account, but that seems a small price to pay for Stargate viewers the chance to someday buy the official set.
