The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4

The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4 Recap

In the previous episode of The Kominsky Method, Sandy learned that he has an enlarged prostate and might also have cancer. Also, Phoebe decided to stay with Norman for a while. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap The Kominsky Method season 1 episode 4 ‘Chapter 4: A Kegel Squeaks!’

Your Finest Ham

The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4

After class, Lisa confronted Sandy about the incident where he urinated on her bushes. She made certain that Sandy was receiving treatment for his apparent prostate issues. Sandy asked Lisa out for lunch, but Lisa had already had plans with someone else. Norman returned home and hung up Ilene’s dress, Phoebe tried to convince Norman to do something with Ilene’s expensive wardrobe. Mindy decided to confide in Lane about Sandy’s prostate trouble. At the grocery store, Sandy called the urologist and asked about his test results, but they hadn’t come in yet. Norman observed how similar Sandy’s situation was to Schrödinger’s cat. Norman asked the butcher for his finest ham.

Pool Relaxation

The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4

During the car ride back to Norman’s house, the pair discussed how similar their health situations were to the theory of entropic decay. Norman also talked about how Kegel exercises could help tighten up their prostates. The pair attempted it, but it didn’t seem to help them in any noticeable way. Back at Norman’s house, the pair discussed happy memories of their marriages until they noticed Phoebe floating facedown in the pool. Phoebe was attempting to relax and was not dead as they had feared. That night, at class, Lane asked about Sandy’s condition and offered some of his alternative medicinal methods. Sandy called Lisa and asked if she would like to go out for dinner that night, but Lisa refused his offer once again.

Odd Conversation

The Kominsky Method Season 1 Episode 4

Later that night, Sandy asked Norman if he wanted to join him for a night out. Sadly, it was too late in the evening for Norman as he was getting ready to go to bed. Sandy went to the local bar and was ignored by the both the bartender and the other patrons. He managed to find an older man who offered him some advice on how to pick up the women at the bar. Sandy went to the restroom and made note of how powerful the other men’s urine streams were and decided to compliment them on their healthy prostates.

Sandy left the bar as he realized he didn’t belong there. Back at Norman’s, Norman noticed that Phoebe had stolen one of her mother’s purses and Norman accused her of stealing her mother’s items in order to sell them for drugs. Norman kicked Phoebe out of the house and ordered her to never come back. Sandy went home and tried to find some pornography that he was interested in, Norman quickly called and they discussed the situation with Phoebe.

The story centers on Laurel & Hardy, the world’s favorite comedy double act, who set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Despite the pressure of a hectic schedule, with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) – a formidable double act in their own right – the pair’s love of performing, as well as love for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public. As they set out, crisscrossing the country, attendances are disappointingly low. But they’ve always been able to make each other laugh and as the charm and beauty of their performances shines through their audiences laugh too, and they re-connect with legions of adoring fans, old and new.

Stephanie Hyam (Peaky BlindersBodyguard) and Golden Globe nominee Danny Huston (Magic CityYellowstone) also star in the feature written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jeff Pope (Philomena). Big-screen adaptation of The Dry casts Eric Bana to star

Jane Harper’s novel The Dry is getting adapted for a feature film, and Eric Bana is set to star. According to Deadline, the Dirty John actor will play Aaron Falk, a man who returns to his hometown after twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend. As Falk continues to investigate the cause of his friend’s death, he uncovers a vast conspiracy that could clear his late friend’s name, but put his own life in danger.

Robert Connolly (Balibo, Paper Planes) will direct the Australian production, based on a script written by him and Harry Cripps (The Magic PuddingPaws). Bruna Papandrea (Big Little Lies, Gone Girl), Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky will be producing. Both Bana and Connolly serve as executive producers alongside Ricci Swart and Andrew Myer.

I am incredibly excited to be part of the team bringing this thrilling and evocative novel to life. I love the journey of Falk, and can’t wait to bring him to life, along with my dear friend Rob Connolly,” Bana said about the project.

It is very important to me that the nature and depth of Falk shines through and I feel Eric Bana will fully capture that. Director Robert Connolly has done an excellent job in writing a script that captures the essence and tone of the novel and its characters. Producer Bruna Papandrea has an outstanding track record and I’m very excited that she will be spearheading this film,” said Harper about the upcoming adaptation of her best-selling novel.

Production is set to begin in February in Victoria, Australia. Roadshow Films will distribute the film in Australia and New Zealand.

Comedy Central Greenlights Awkwafina Scripted Series

Comedy Central Greenlights Awkwafina Scripted Series

Comedy Central greenlights Awkwafina scripted series

Awkwafina’s (Crazy Rich Asians, Oceans 8) half-hour comedy Awkwafina has been given a series order by Comedy Central, TheWrap has confirmed. The network has also picked up a comedy from comedian Rory Scovel (I Feel Pretty).

Awkwafina is about a 20-something in Queens striving for a larger than life existence while living with her father and grandmother. Awkwafina will star in and executive produce the 10-episode series, and also co-wrote the pilot with Karey Dornetto and Teresa Hsiao.

Also starring in the series are Bowen Yang as Awkwafin’s more successful cousin, BD Wong as her father, and Lori Tan Chinn as her grandmother. The pilot was directed by Lucia Aniello.

“I’ve been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today,” said Awkwafina. “I am so honored to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian American girl against the backdrop of the city I was raised in.”

Executive producing alongside Awkwafina are Dornetto, Aniello, Peter Principato, and Itay Reiss of Artists First. Hsiao is co-executive producing with Monika Zielinska, Adam Londy, and Rachel Olson serving as executives in charge for Comedy Central.

Scovel’s comedy, Robbie, received an eight-episode order. The comedian will co-write and star in the seris as a small town youth league basketball coach who’s living in his father’s shadow until he realizes he has a son of his own who can lead him to greatness.

“I can’t wait to get started. I think our cast and entire production team is insanely talented,” said Scovel. “It’s exciting to work with Comedy Central and it’s especially awesome because they said they would never cancel us.”

Also starring in the series are Beau Bridges as Scovel’s father, Sasheer Zamata, and Mary Holland. Scovel and co-writer Anthony King are executive producing alongside Scott Moran, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Betsy Koch, and Owen Burke of Gary Sanchez Productions. Zielinska and Olson will serve as executives in charge.

South Park Season 22 Episode 8 Recap

South Park Season 22 Episode 8

South Park Season 22 Episode 8 Recap

In the previous episode of South Park, the town of South Park renegotiated their deal with ManBearPig and he agreed to leave the town alone for the foreseeable future. What does this next installment have in store? Let’s find out as we recap South Park season 22 episode 8 ‘Buddha Box!’

Psychiatry Is Important

South Park Season 22 Episode 8

Cartman was at the psychiatrist’s office, where he was trying to rationalize ManBearPig;s existence and that Black Panther was not as good of a film as everyone says it was. He also couldn’t deal with people wanting him to get off of his phone. The psychiatrist diagnosed Cartman with anxiety and remarked how common anxiety was among the youth. PC Principal checked on Vice Principal Strong Woman. He urged her to place their children in daycare, but she refused. Later that day, Cartman paraded through town and demanded that everyone leave him alone in order to assuage his anxiety. Cartman saw an ad for a new product, Buddha Box. The Buddha Box projected your phone screen inches from your face and was outfitted with noise cancelling headphones. Cartman quickly ordered a Buddha Box and wore it to school the next day.

Buddha Box-ing

South Park Season 22 Episode 8

Throughout the school day, Cartman attempted to wear his Buddha Box, but was reprimanded by his teacher. He was sent to PC Principal’s office and quickly managed to convince PC Principal of the joys of Buddha Box. PC Principal quickly ordered a Buddha Box for both himself and Strong Woman. At their house, the couple became attached to using their Buddha Boxes often and started to ignore their children.

The PC children quickly escaped from their home and began to ravage the town with their PC insight. They first interrupted people at the local bar and managed to get some troublesome drinks removed from the menu. PC Principal and Strong Woman noticed that their children had run away and went out to locate them. The psychiatrist held a seminar at the Community Center to help people deal with their anxiety ridden loved ones. Strong Woman and PC Principal went to the police station for help finding their children.

Changes To Enact

South Park Season 22 Episode 8

The children went to the water park and Kyle was continually angry with Cartman for his use of the Buddha Box. Kyle told Cartman that every normal person dealt with some bit of anxiety and Cartman realized he had to go do something to let everyone know how to deal with anxiety. Cartman dressed up as a Buddhist monk and went to the City Council and attempted to convince the Mayor to raise government funds to buy everybody a Buddha Box. The PC pair found their children at the local radio station, before they decided to hold a PTA meeting. At the PTA meeting, PC Principal and Strong Woman announced their new plan to ban phone and Buddha Box usage at school.

Luther Season 5 Trailer Promises To Play Dirty

Luther season 5 trailer

Luther season 5 trailer promises to play dirty

The first trailer for Luther season five is here, and it finds Detective John Luther (Idris Elba) once again trying to solve a series of grisly murders that appear random at first, only to realize there’s a deadly pattern emerging. As Luther gets closer to the truth, his unconventional methods run the risk of alienating everyone who’s on his side. Meanwhile, his past will come back to haunt him, as his longtime nemesis Alice (Ruth Wilson) makes a very brief appearance near the end. You can check out the trailer in the post below!

Of the return, Elba said: “Neil, the BBC and I have been talking about a further season and I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together. I look forward to putting the coat back on.”

RELATED: First Footage for Luther Series 5 Reveals Idris Elba Getting Tortured

The latest four-part limited-series will be written by creator Neil Cross (Hard Sun). He further elaborated on the process of the series returning, saying:

“Now what? It’s a question Idris and I get asked a lot. What happened to John Luther after we last saw him striding unbowed through the streets of his city, his blood red London? It can’t be over, can it? There’s so much we don’t know. So much unfinished business. The thing is, we’ve been asking ourselves the same question. Because we love John and wonder what he’s up to. And as for me, I’m scared of the monsters. The face at the window. The hand under the bed. The shadow at the end of the street. Who’s going to stop them, if not John Luther? In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they’d like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to find out what happens next. Now what? Luther’s coming back. That’s what.”

First premiering in 2010, Luther stars Elba as the titular obsessive detective and has seen him gain a Golden Globe award, a Screen Actors Guild award, an NAACP Image Award, a Critics’ Choice Award, and four Emmy nominations.

Luther season five will air on the BBC sometime in 2019.

Drive Dom's Dodge Charger in Fast & Furious Takedown Game

At this point it's impossible to deny the appeal of the Fast & Furious franchise, with the latest film, Fate of the Furious, delivering the biggest box office opening ever. Keeping that in mind, it's weird that there aren't more companies trying to deliver multiple tie-ins with a major franchise across every accessible medium. As it would happen, however, Universal Games and Digital Platforms, in partnership with SMG Studio, have released a new mobile game based on the fast-paced franchise known as Fast & Furious Takedown.

With a focus on crazy tracks that shift the action off of the streets and onto a menagerie of out-there locales, Fast & Furious Takedown looks to be an exhilarating take on the series. It also appears as if players will be able to take control of several vehicles as they rush around a wide range of tracks in the hopes of winning races and, presumably, bragging rights.

Related: Fast and Furious: 20 Things That Make No Sense About Dom Toretto

The game encourages users to bomb through various environmental hazards during play, ensuring that the mayhem and destruction that follows Vin Diesel and friends on the big screen handily makes the transition to mobile platforms. Best of all, the game is available to download completely free-of-charge right now, meaning that players can explore the world of the films without having to actually... well, watch them.

Not a bad deal at all, truthfully.

As for the vehicles confirmed for the finished product, it looks as if Dom's iconic Dodge Charger will be front and center for the mobile game. If that weren't enough for fans of the blockbuster series, there are also several other legendary vehicles present in Takedown that can be driven - a total of 60 licensed cars. Additionally, and despite the emphasis on out-there racing, the mobile aspect of the finished product should ensure that it remains widely accessible to a new audience.

There's more to Takedown than just racing too, as there will be "missions, epic stunts, fierce chopper pursuits, and more" awaiting players. It sounds like a lot to handle already, but the free mobile game will also have Versus Leagues for anyone that wants to vent some frustration by going head-to-head with others online.

With plenty of Fast & Furious films still in development, there's sure to be more content arriving for the mobile game in due time. For example, the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff is well underway at Universal Pictures, so it's possible that fans may even be treated to new vehicles that tie into that release sooner rather than later.

Fast & Furious Takedown is currently available across Google Play and iOS devices.

YouTube Original Shows & Movies Will Now Be Free

Attempting to remain relevant and competitive with other streaming sites, YouTube has announced that viewers can now watch their original shows and movies free of charge. This is a detour from the current trajectory of the site that had been attempting to reel in YouTube Premium members by offering several free episodes of their original content – for shows like Sideswiped – while the remainder of the series could only be viewed by way of paid membership.

Within recent years, YouTube has begun to invest further in original content, though the site has yet to be considered in the ranks of dominating streaming sites like Hulu or Netflix. That said, announcements on a wide variety of new content have been exploding from YouTube in recent months, detailing projects including a Tom Felton led sci-fi series entitled Originan Edge of Seventeen TV series, and Wayne, a dark comedy from the writers of Deadpool. An abundance of fresh content is precisely what YouTube needs to become a true competitor in the streaming services realm – that, and content free from the monthly cost of a YouTube Premium account.

Related: YouTube Now Showing Free, But Ad-Supported Hollywood Movies

According to Variety, the recent decision insinuates a move away from the site's rather brief foray into content available for paying users only. The YouTube Premium accounts will no longer serve as the key to YouTube original content. Instead, Premium members will attain the ability to view content earlier than non-paying users while enjoying ad-free and offline viewing. Within the announcement, YouTube appeared more globally-minded, ensuring that their content could reach a wider and rapidly growing audience.

Almost indicating a return to its roots, YouTube plans to shift towards content focusing on celebrities and YouTube creators, though scripted content remains on their radar. Their "Single Slate" strategy will rely on ad support and will come into full effect by 2020.

YouTube has always been a safe haven where content creators have found the ability to reach wide audiences, without stipulations and by remaining free of charge. An entire generation of filmmakers and stars alike has relied on YouTube to project their voices on a worldwide stage. Without YouTube, the world may have never seen shows like Billy on the Street, Broad Cityor WorkaholicsThis new path helps redefine the site for a new era, perhaps even returning to its original foundation. YouTube is not Netflix, but it plays an equally vital role in the industry in its own regard.

Awkwafina Series Gets First Season Order From Comedy Central

Rising star and YouTube rapper Awkwafina received a first season order for her self-titled series Awkwafina at Comedy Central. The young actress appeared in two popular movies this year – Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians – setting her up to host Saturday Night Live back in October. With this new series order, Awkwafina proves she's not just a flash in the pan.

Featured in one of the most talked about films this year, Awkwafina quickly ascended from an oddball supporting actor in Crazy Rich Asians to the film's clear breakout star. Based on the book of the same name by Kevin Kwan, the film opened to huge success dominating box offices for four straight weekends, becoming the highest grossing rom-com of the decade thus far. Though the film starred a plethora of talented actors including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ken Jeong, and others, Awkwafina held her own against more established stars. Unsurprisingly, a sequel has already been announced and Awkwafina has joined several projects in the interim, including her own show.

Related: Crazy Rich Asians 2: Everything We Know About The Sequel's Story

Awkwafina will write and star in her self-titled Comedy Central series, according to a report from Deadline. Taking a self-reflective, near auto-biographical approach, Awkwafina portrays the star's former life as a struggling twenty-something in Queens. Karey Dornetto and Teresa Hsiao co-write alongside Awkwafina, and the series will be directed by Lucia Aniello of Broad City, while also featuring both BD Wong and Lori Tan Chinn. Speaking on her new show, Awkwafina said:

"I’ve been watching Comedy Central since I was old enough to hold a remote, and so many of their shows have defined who I am today. I am so honored to be given their platform to tell the story of an Asian American girl against the backdrop of the city I was raised."

Entering the spotlight amidst an industry-wide conversation regarding a general lack of diversity and representation, Awkwafina consistently acknowledges progress while mentioning the issues that remain evident in the entertainment industry. She said it best in her SNL monologue by referencing that she was only the second Asian American female hostfollowing Lucy Liu's episode 18 seasons prior.

Through her constant efforts towards diversity, as well as her unique personality that shines through in any role, Awkwafina has risen to stardom in a matter of months. Comedy Central made a safe bet on the young actress and rapper, as her fanbase continues to grow. With the popularity of both Crazy Rich Asians and Awkwafina,  Hollywood will hopefully learn a long-awaited lesson on diversity.

Daredevil Cancelled By Netflix

Netflix has officially cancelled Daredevil after three seasons. Marvel and Netflix struck a deal years ago to bring original live-action TV shows to the streaming service. DaredevilJessica JonesLuke Cage, and Iron Fist were the initial deal that was scheduled to lead to The Defenders.

Marvel and Netflix started the partnership with Daredevil and cast Charlie Cox in the role of Matt Murdock. The first season arrived in 2015 and instantly set the tone for this corner of the MCU and was looked at as a major hit. Netflix quickly renewed Daredevil for a second season that came out in 2016 and finally launched season three of the series just a few weeks ago. The new season was as well-received as any of the previous, but some metrics showed a continued decline in interest. This was the same for all Marvel/Netflix shows, and started the movement of Netflix canning these properties. Iron Fist was the first to go and then Luke Cage also was canceled - both after two seasons.

Related: How Netflix Can Save Its Remaining Marvel Shows

The rush of cancellations made many fans worried about the future of the remaining Netflix properties, and now Deadline has revealed that Netflix has cancelled Daredevil after three seasons. Netflix issued the following statement about their decision:

"Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel."

The cancellation of Daredevil comes on the heels of Oleson confirming he recently pitched his idea for season 4 to Netflix. The decision to cancel the series is likely not an indictment on his pitch, but rather the latest piece of evidence that all of these Netflix/Marvel cancellations are not a coincidence, seeing as Marvel will have original content released via Disney's new streaming service Disney Plus. The good news for fans of the first three seasons is that Netflix confirmed in their statement that the series' first three seasons will continue to be available to stream for several more years.

However, it may be the end of their statement that offers a glimmer of hope for Marvel fans and possibly even the actors involved with the series. Netflix says Daredevil "will live on in future projects for Marvel," so that could be a sign that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are instead interested in regaining control of these characters. Whether or not Charlie Cox's version of Daredevil or Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Kingpin get promoted to the big screen is unknown at this time, but such a move would be wildly accepted by fans.

Of course, now that Daredevil has joined Iron Fist and Luke Cage in getting canceled, the future of the remaining Marvel/Netflix series is probably not too bright. The Punisher season 2 and Jessica Jones seasons 3 are both expected to debut sometime in 2019, but with three of the five standalone shows canceled, the Netflix corner of the Marvel universe appears to be ending, and fans should probably be prepared for The Punisher and Jessica Jones to receive similar fates.

Godzilla 2's Viral Website Brings Older Movie Events Into Canon

Legendary and WB's Monarch Sciences website is beginning to share more information regarding Godzilla: King of the Monsters as well as tease more monsters joining the burgeoning MonsterVerse. It wasn't long after Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot released in 2014 that WB decided to fully develop a shared universe surrounding some of the most famous kaiju/monsters in film history - and that's what ultimately led to Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island, which released in 2017.

Aside from the organization Monarch having a presence in Kong: Skull Island, the 2017 film mostly existed apart from the Godzilla movie. However, thanks to the introduction of the hollow earth points and Kong: Skull Island's post-credits scene, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is able to introduce a handful of new monsters - specifically Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah - into the MonsterVerse in unique ways. And much of that has been teased on the Monarch Sciences website. But the viral site may also be subtly bringing old Toho movies into canon (or, at least their events.)

Related: When Will Godzilla: King of the Monsters' Next Trailer Release?

After debuting the first Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, the Monarch Sciences website (and Twitter account) went silent. Finally, months later, they're back with new teases on Twitter, some of which were revealed during a Godzilla panel at LA Comic Con in October. What's interesting about these new teases, however, is that they could be perceived as subtle references to past Toho movies, and are thus potentially evidence of WB bringing old Godzilla events into canon.

For instance, Monarch's tweet Godzilla heading to the last known location of a Japanese land mass that sunk into the ocean is referencing the movie Submersion of Japan (aka Tidal Waves in the United States), a disaster movie about a series of geological phenomena leading to Japan sinking. Then, Monarch's tweet about Godzilla disappearing and then reappearing in the Sea of Okhotsk is certainly a nod to the 1991 movie, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, which makes reference to a time Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah in the Sea of Okhotsk, where King Ghidorah had remained for 200 years.

Considering that WB is only now getting back on track with using Monarch Sciences to promote Godzilla: King of the Monsters, there may be plenty of more opportunities for them to reference and tease old Toho movies, while also possibly bringing them closer to the events of the MonsterVerse. Of course, they don't need to explain how everything could potentially exist in the same universe, but it's not like having a multiverse is too far-fetched.

Preacher Renewed For Season 4 At AMC

AMC isn’t done with the search for God, apparently, as the cable network has announced that Preacher has been renewed for season 4, with a slight change in location for the upcoming production. The series has been making its way through its source material, with season 3 having spent much of its time exploring the past of main character Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), with his two friends, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) in tow.

Season 3 may have been the most ambitious of the series yet, as it not only tackled Jesse’s extended family, the L’Angells — Marie (aka, Gran’ma), TC, and Jody — but also somehow found room for Allfather D’Aronique, who precipitated an extended confrontation between Jesse and the Grail, and a run in between Cassidy and Les Enfants du Sang (Children of the Blood) cult. All that is on top of the usual hyper-stylized, comedic ultra-violence the series is known for.

More: Blade Runner Animated Series Coming To Adult Swim

So, given that and the fact that the series is produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who seem to announce they’re involved with a new television series on a weekly basis), and the fact that the series is getting closer to the source material’s actual ending, it’s perhaps no surprise that the network would renew Preacher for a fourth season. As was reported by TVLine, however, season 4 will bring about one major change: the production will move from Louisiana to Australia, though no reasons for the move were not readily available.

The move may simply be to keep costs on the series down, especially as the story marches toward its conclusion. The land down under is no stranger to film and television productions, and given that Preacher is produced by Sony Pictures Television, it’s a good bet the studio wanted to take advantage of not only certain tax breaks, but also the numerous production facilities. Whether that means there’ll be a noticeable difference in Preacher season 4 from what’s come before remains to be seen, but it will be worth keeping an eye out for.

As for AMC’s decision to renew the series despite it not being part of the usual television conversation (at least not like Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, or other genre favorites), might have to do with the network’s desire to build up its content library. In that sense, Preacher’s value may be in what it could bring to the network (and its nascent streaming option) in the years to come, rather than what it brings in on a season-by-season basis. With season 4 a sure thing, it will be interesting to see how much closer showrunner Sam Catlin gets to closing out the story of Jess Custer and his search for the Almighty, and if it’ll take a fifth season to do it.

Fast and Furious Spinoff Casts Baby Driver's Eiza González

Eiza González is the newest star of Universal's Hobbs and Shaw, the first spinoff in the Fast & Furious franchise. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have made for memorable additions to the universe in recent installments, but now the rivals are going to help welcome more characters to the growing franchise.

The spinoff brings Johnson and Statham back in their respective roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw after fans of the nitrous-infused franchise got a taste of their chemistry in The Fate of the Furious. For the purposes of the new film, they've put their differences and pasts behind them to work together in some fashion. Plot details on the spinoff are limited, but it is known that Idris Elba will be the film's main villain. Director David Leitch (Deadpool 2) has been heading up the shoot for the last several weeks and his cast is now suddenly expanding.

Variety reports Eiza González is joining the cast of Hobbs and Shaw, which the actress has already taken to social media to confirm. There are currently no details on González's character, but the report notes that her inclusion is "last-minute" after execs at Universal were impressed by her. González joining Hobbs and Shaw is just the latest in a long line of new projects for the rising star after breaking out last year thanks to a role in Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.

It is this busy schedule that González is now operating on that made Hobbs and Shaw a difficult project to join, as she is currently in the middle of filming Godzilla vs. Kong. Set photos from the Hawaii production previously revealed her filming scenes, so González's availability had to be ironed out. Now that this has been squared away, Hobbs and Shaw will be added to her upcoming filmography, which also includes projects like Robert Zemeckis' Welcome to Marwen at the end of this year, Alita: Battle Angel early next year, and Bloodshot in 2020.

With González now on board, and given the timing of her addition, this hopefully won't be too small of a role for her in Hobbs and Shaw. She'll be joining Mission: Impossible - Fallout's breakout star Vanessa Kirby in the upcoming spinoff as two of the most prominent new additions to the cast, and considering the recent success of both actresses, it'd be great to see Kirby and González share some screen time in Hobbs and Shaw. Even though there aren't any details regarding González's role right now, Dwayne Johnson's savviness on social media is well-documented. He's shared the first look at just about every cast member so far, so it shouldn't come as a surprise if he drops an image of González once she starts filming as well.

Why We'll Definitely Get The Avengers 4 Trailer Before The End Of 2018

The Avengers 4 trailer will definitely drop in 2018. Marvel seem to be quite enjoying playing with audience expectations when it comes to the marketing of next year's Avengers sequel. There's an unprecedented degree of secrecy surrounding the film - so far, Marvel hasn't even officially confirmed the Avengers 4 title - and the mystery is just leading to an ever-increasing sense of anticipation among the fandom.

Many had expected the Avengers 4 trailer to drop this week; it's the anniversary of the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, and right before the first Avengers 4 tie-in comic will be released. It now looks as though those expectations are doomed to disappointment. All this is leading to an intense sense of frustration among eager Marvel fans who are keen to watch their first footage from the movie.

One thing can be said for certain, though; there will indeed be a Avengers 4 trailer in 2018. Kevin Feige himself confirmed this in October this year. While Feige refused to give a clue to a specific date, he said that the trailer would be released "before the end of the year." That will officially mark the beginning of Avengers 4's marketing campaign.

Once the Avengers 4 trailer releases, there will probably then be a flood of announcements related to tie-in merchandise. Details from some toy packs are already leaking online, revealing previously unknown plot details. Marvel simply can't hold the trailer back much longer, for fear a high-profile leak will mean merchandise teases something they wanted to reveal in a more controlled way.

2018 has already demonstrated just how important marketing is for even big brands like Marvel and Star Wars. Solo: A Star Wars Story was the biggest misstep by Lucasfilm to date, and it was largely a result of a lackluster marketing campaign. Disney and Lucasfilm were overconfident about the strength of the Star Wars brand, believing the film would essentially sell itself; as a result, they didn't release the first trailer until just three months before Solo hit the box office. Ultimately, Solo grossed less than $400 million worldwide against an inflated budget that may have been as high as $300 million. Every single film studio will have learned some important lessons from Solo's performance, and there's no way Marvel will be risking a repeat. With Avengers 4 currently due to release in the beginning of May, Marvel will want footage out there by the end of 2018 at the absolute latest.

But why is Marvel waiting so long before they drop the Avengers 4 trailer? The answer is that the "delay" is in itself a smart marketing strategy. Right now, among Marvel fans there's only one topic of conversation: Avengers 4. Hype is building online, even though Marvel has literally done nothing. As a result, when that trailer does release, every single Marvel fan will want to watch it, share it, and react to it - meaning the trailer will be exposed to an ever-growing audience on social media. The trailers for Avengers: Infinity War were record-breaking, but Avengers 4's may already be primed to perform even better.

Brie Larson is playing Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is Marvel's first female-led superhero film as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, casting an actress in the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, was a long and arduous process, just as it was casting every other major character in the MCU. A number of actresses vied and tested for the role, but it eventually went to Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson (Room, 21 Jump Street), who officially joined the shared universe in 2016.

Captain Marvel is Set in 1995

Captain Marvel will be Marvel's second period-piece, behind Captain America: The First Avenger, and is set in 1995. It's as yet unclear how the film will fit with the MCU's overall continuity, as the studio is keeping tight-lipped about just why they've stepped back in time to the '90s, but it's presumably for story purposes. The film will need to account for Captain Marvel's absence in the MCU over all these years, which should make for an intriguing storyline.

Jude Law is also Starring in Captain Marvel

Jude Law has signed up as the male lead in Captain Marvel, and it was originally reported that he was playing the part of Mar-Vell, the hero who inspired Carol Danvers. Curiously, Law has refused to confirm this, and the studio declined to name his character as part of EW's first look. That's leading many to speculate that Marvel has a plot twist in mind regarding Law's mysterious Kree warrior. He's been described as a devout warrior with a passionate "belief in the divine leadership of the Kree people," which doesn't sound particularly like Mar-Vell.

It's been confirmed that Law is commander of the Kree Starforce, an elite military unit that Carol has joined after gaining her powers. The other members of the Starforce - including Ronan the Accuser - are traditionally villains in the comics.

Nick Fury, Agent Coulson, Ronan & More Are in Captain Marvel

Despite being set before the start of the MCU as we know it, 2019's Captain Marvel will feature a lot of familiar faces.

Samuel L. Jackson was at the forefront of getting the Marvel Cinematic Universe off the ground, and he will be making his sixth appearance as the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2019's Captain Marvel. But, it will technically be Nick Fury's first appearance canonically, seeing as the film is primarily set in the 1990s. That also means Fury will have both of his eyes in the film, not just one working eye and one eye-patch.

It was later confirmed at the start of filming that Clark Gregg, Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou are all returning, reprising their roles as Agent Coulson, Ronan and Korath, respectively.

The Skrulls are the Main Villains in Captain Marvel

The shape-shifting Skrulls are Captain Marvel's villains. Ben Mendelsohn plays their ruthless leader, Talos, who spearheads an invasion of the Earth. The plot is loosely inspired by the Kree-Skrull War, an arc that essentially saw Earth become a No-Man's-Land in the galactic conflict between the two vast, warlike alien races.

As for how Marvel is able to use the Skrulls, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn explained after the Skrulls announcement that only some Skrulls are wholly owned by 20th Century Fox, whereas Skrulls as a race are co-owned by both Fox and Marvel Studios. That's what allows them to be a part of the MCU, even this late in the game.

The Story of Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel isn't an origin story, as it'll start off with Carol Danvers already serving as a member of the Kree Starforce. She travels back to her homeworld of Earth in order to deal with a Skrull invasion, but apparently discovers dark secrets in her own past. Furthermore, Captain Marvel is based on Kelly Sue DeConnick's comic arc.

The official synopsis of Captain Marvel reads:

"The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

How Captain Marvel Connects to the Rest of the MCU

Captain Marvel's story is expected to set the character up for an important role in Avengers 4. It's been confirmed that the film will revisit the Quantum Realm, the mysterious dimension that was key to Ant-Man & the Wasp. Beyond that, it's serving as the origin story for a large number of characters who already exist in the MCU, including Nick Fury, Ronan the Accuser, and even Agent Coulson.

Captain Marvel Is Teased in Avengers: Infinity War Post-Credits Scene

Although Brie Larson was cast as Captain Marvel in 2016, she's not expected to make her on-screen debut until her 2019 solo film. Barring a post-credits scene in Ant-Man & the Wasp, she will then reprise her role in next year's Avengers 4. Though rumors suggested that she would be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, its release proved otherwise. That said, Captain Marvel's presence wasn't completely absent from the team-up movie as she was teased in the post-credits scene. As people around the world start disappearing, we see the return of Maria Hill and Nick Fury. And just before the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. bites the dust, he sends out a signal on a modified pager and gets Captain Marvel's symbol in return.

Captain Marvel Theories

The first wave of Captain Marvel theories really focused on one simple question; where has been Captain Marvel been since the 1990s? The first possible answer was that she has been in space, perhaps battling on the war-fronts of the Kree Empire; the second was that she could have been stranded in the Quantum Realm.

First details from Captain Marvel have raised another tantalizing question; just who is Jude Law's character? Given it's increasingly unlikely he's portraying Mar-Vell, a popular theory has suggested that he's actually playing the Kree villain Yon-Rogg. In that scenario, neither the Kree nor the Skrulls are truly "good guys," and Captain Marvel could have been manipulated into serving in the Kree Starforce.

Ever since the first Captain Marvel trailer released, there has been an influx in new theories about the Captain Marvel movie as well as how it connects to Avengers 4.

Captain Marvel Teaser Trailer is Out Now

The first Captain Marvel trailer released in September 2018 and largely teased Brie Larson's introduction as Carol Danvers rather than show too much about how the movie connects to the rest of the MCU. However, the first Captain Marvel trailer also teased Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Clark Gregg's big screen return as Agent Coulson.

Captain Marvel's Poster Reveals New Costume Look

A Captain Marvel movie poster released alongside the movie's first trailer in September. Rather than focusing on Captain Marvel's superhero exploits, the poster made sure to highlight Carol Danvers' history as a pilot by having her stand inside a hangar. Furthermore, the Captain Marvel poster revealed yet a new look at Captain Marvel's classic superhero costume.

Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck Are Directing Captain Marvel

Leading up to Captain Marvel's official confirmation, it was believed that Marvel would try to find a female director for the film, just as Warner Bros. hired Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman. And they did look at some top-tier female directors, but they ultimately settled on directing duo, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (It's Kind of a Funny Story, Mississippi Grind). They've only directed a few films, and they are newcomers to tent-pole films, but then again, so are most blockbuster directors nowadays.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet Wrote Captain Marvel's Script

Screenwriters Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve wrote the first draft of the script, turning it in in December 2016. The duo were eventually replaced with Geneva Robertson-Dworet, whose first major screenplay is 2018's Tomb Raider. Although Robertson-Dworet rewrote Captain Marvel's script, the crux of the story Perlman and LeFauve wrote will be retained in the final cut.

Captain Marvel Has Finished Filming

Captain Marvel was originally slated to enter production in March 2018, but cameras started rolling on the project in January 2018. As it turns out, Marvel Studios was awarded $20.7 million in tax credits if they started filming the movie within 180 days of receiving the credit. Otherwise, the credit would expire. And that 180-day frame concluded in late January, hence why principal photography began much earlier than expected. However, Marvel was allowed to put the production on a 120-day hiatus - after completing filming for one or two weeks - and return in March without losing the tax credit. Filming finished in July; however, Captain Marvel started undergoing reshoots in November.
