Clare Crawley's Season of The Bachelorette Will Not Feature Hometown Dates & Exotic Locations

The upcoming season of The Bachelorette will not feature hometown dates and exotic locations. It is currently planned to take place at  resort, with no travel whatsoever.

Clare Crawley was announced as The Bachelorette before the end of the Peter Weber's season of The Bachelor. Her return to Bachelor Nation was met largely with applause. After several leads that were either too young or too immature, the selection of Clare was a breath of fresh air. Being the oldest Bachelorette lead at 37, her age was going to be a big topic of discussion. The initial cast of men that were revealed skewed very young, with most contestants in their 20s. After news came out that the start of the season would be delayed, Chris Harrison said some of the eventual cast may be different. Hopefully, for Clare'Bs case, she will have the opportunity to date a group of guys who are a little bit older than the original cast. That is, if the season happens at all.

According to Reality Steve, the plan is to film The Bachelorette for five weeks in July and August and air the show in September. It would take place at a resort. The 150-200 members of the cast and crew would be tested for coronavirus beforehand. Reality Steve said on his podcast, "That means all the dates and cocktail parties and rose ceremonies and the cast would all live in one resort for the whole time of filming. Zero travel." Thus far, the show hasn't locked down a resort to film at. Reality Steve said, "They are out scouting right now." In order to proceed with this plan, a resort would need to agree to tell all future guests that have booked a stay during the time The Bachelorette wants to film that they won't be able to come.

Since there will be no travel, the show can film in a more compressed time frame with less off days. The dates will likely be less exciting, the landscapes likely less serene and the overall product less entertaining. Reality Steve clarified on his podcast, "I don't know if this is their only plan," but even if there is a backup plan, it is still going up against a game of odds. We don't know how much better things will be in July.

This sucks for Clare, who deserved a normal season. It is probable that The Bachelorette doesn't film at all this year. There are too many pieces that need to fall into place, too many precautionary hurdles to clear. It would be doing Clare and the rest of the cast a disservice to hold a season that jeopardizes health and safety in any way. It's best to cancel the season. If Clare is still single in 2021, fans would gladly welcome her as The Bachelorette once more.
