Parks & Rec: The Worst Things Ann Perkins Has Ever Done

There are many wonderful characters that appear on the hit comedy series Parks and Recreation. Leslie, Ron, Donna, Tom…these are the characters who make us believe in a better world. Though Leslie is the beating heart of the series, a key part of her character development is her friendship with Ann Perkins.

Ann is a great character and a true friend to Leslie. However, she does a few things that are…not great. Here are the worst of them.

10 How Could She Leave Leslie?

Okay, so it’s not entirely fair to judge Ann for leaving Leslie behind, but still…how could she leave Leslie, the person who’d done the most for her during her time in Pawnee?

The moment when she drives away with Chris, leaving behind the life that she’s built in the small town in Indiana, is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the series.

9 She Kissed Andy

By the end of the series, it’s easy to forget that at the beginning, Ann and the goofy Andy were dating. Though they eventually broke up and Andy found his soul-mate April, Ann just couldn’t quite let herself give Andy up, leading to a fateful moment when she kissed him in his hospital bed.

It was an unfortunate judgment lapse on Ann’s part since it almost torpedoed Andy’s fledgling relationship.

8 She Dated Mark Brendanaquitz

One of the most unfortunate characters on Parks and Rec was Mark. He was a rather unpleasant fellow who seemed to look at the other members of the office with an amount of contempt. Unfortunately, all of his character flaws didn’t keep Ann from dating him.

It’s a testament to Ann’s questionable judgment, the first of many that would occur throughout the show.

7 Only Went Out With Chris to Spy For Leslie

Though Leslie is Ann’s best friend, she sometimes leads Ann a bit astray, such as when she convinces Ann to go out with the relentlessly optimistic Chris in order to spy for her.

The problem is that Ann actually starts to develop feelings for Chris, given how well their date starts to go. While it’s not entirely fair to blame Ann for this fiasco, she does bear some culpability for being willing to go along with Leslie’s scheme.

6 That Time She Barged Into Chris's House

When Leslie, once again spying on Chris, discovers signs that he might be cheating on Ann, Ann overreacts and barges into his house intent on forcing him to confess.

Unfortunately, the jokes on her, when it’s revealed that Chris, in his excessively nice way, actually broke up with Ann earlier. Once again, Ann’s lack of judgment ends up coming back to haunt her.

5  Pretends She's Still With Tom To Win a Bet

There’s no question that Ann has questionable taste when it comes to men, and she somehow manages to end up with men who are just plain bad for her. That was definitely the case with Tom, who, with whom she had an on again/off again relationship for far longer than was necessary.

In fact, at one point, she stayed with him just to win a bet. While not terrible, it’s definitely not the noblest thing that Ann ever did.

4 Only Wants To Date Chris For His Sperm

The ongoing relationship between Chris and Ann is one of the most fascinating storylines in Parks and Recreation. However, it also shows how problematic Ann can be.

In this instance, she isn’t willing to date Chris or give him the emotional relationship that he clearly needs, but she’s more than willing to take his sperm so that she can raise a baby on her own. It’s not really a good look for Ann to be so merciless.

3  Attempted to Make Jokes

Even when it was awkward for the characters to bear through some of her jokes, that didn’t stop her from trying to make jokes.

Unsurprisingly, they were often quite awful. This is what happens when a person who isn’t really that funny tries to change themselves just to fit in with the rest of the group.

2 Tortured April In Exchange For A Recommendation

The ongoing conflict between April and Ann is one of the funniest aspects of Parks and Rec. Even after the issue with Andy is put behind them, Ann and April continue to spar with one another, including that time when Ann forced April to be her friend in order to earn a recommendation.

While one can understand the temptation—considering how awful April is to Ann—it’s still not a very nice thing to do, and one expects better from Ann.

1  Begrudges Leslie Her Leslieness

Leslie Knope deserves an award for being the best friend in television. Her loyalty is unparalleled, and she repeatedly shows how seriously she takes her friendships, especially with Ann.

Ann, however, all too often is a little too begrudging of this loyalty, sometimes seeming to view Leslie as too friendly. It’s a little understandable—after all, Leslie can be a bit overwhelming—but it’s hard not to look down on Ann when she doesn’t seem to appreciate Leslie enough.
