Peaky Blinders: 4 Times Tommy Should Have Died (& 5 He Proved He Shouldn't)

Peaky Blinders is a critically-acclaimed crime drama that might just be the best on BBC. For huge fans of the show, everyone has been following this family and their enemies since the very beginning. As fans patiently wait for a new season, there is certainly enough riveting content to re-watch.

Thomas Shelby is one of the most dynamic and intriguing characters on television today, and it's definitely safe to say he's also pretty methodical, dangerous, and intelligent. However, Tommy doesn't always make the best decisions, and he's certainly found himself in hot water a number of times. Here are 5 times Tommy definitely should've died, and 5 that prove he deserves to live on.

9 Should Live: Shooting Changretta's Men

In the fourth season of the series, Thomas Shelby is battling with his own family, but the real enemy is Luca Changretta and his gang. He knows Polly betrayed him for his meeting with Luca, so Tommy goes - but prepared.

In what definitely should have been his demise, he single-handedly kills three of Changretta's gang members, and even gets face-to-face with Luca. The police break it up, but Tommy certainly proved he can out-maneuver death.

8 Should Die: Kidnapped By Campbell's Men

In the finale of the second season, episode 6, Tommy's methodical and fragile plan to kill Inspector Campbell at the horse races is actually a success - done at the hand of Polly. However, just on the bridge of victory, Tommy is kidnapped by Campbell's men from Northern Ireland.

Fans will remember them dragging him out into a field with a dug out grave. Everyone thought this would finally be his demise, but luck finally struck again - one of the men worked for Winston Churchill.

7 Should Live: The Shoot Out With Kimber

In the finale of season one, the Peaky Blinders are at odds with Kimber and his men, who own the racing tracks. However, Kimber outsmarts them all and catches them by surprise at their home. Kimber kills Danny and hits Tommy, but Tommy's injury isn't enough to stop him from shooting Kimber.

This intense shoot out proves that Tommy is pretty incredible even when he's blindsided, and that it's going to take a lot more than that to get rid of him.

6 Should Die: Beaten Up By Sabini's Men

This scene, in the premiere episode the second season, is probably one of the most gruesome and devastating of the entire series. Fans will remember when Sabini's men corner Tommy in a bathroom and beat him within an inch of his life.

To his luck, Inspector Campbell breaks up the fight. Leaving the scene with a life-threatening head injury and forever having to wear glasses, Tommy definitely could have, and maybe should have, met his demise.

5 Should Live: Fooling Oswald Mosley

While all fans know that the end of the fifth season didn't work out for Thomas Shelby, he certainly proved he should live to fight another day by totally tricking Oswald Mosley and using his position to keep him one step ahead.

Early on in this season, Tommy discovers there is a traitor among them and the Peaky Blinders are under fire. Tommy certainly proves that he is on top of everything that is going on, and that nobody can out-maneuver him.

4 Should Die: Father Hughes Foils His Plan

In the middle of the third season, Tommy is working alongside the Russians. However, his main plan is to murder Father Hughes, who is secretly conspiring against him and the Russians.

Of course, this plan is revealed (by a drunk Polly), and Father Hughes uses a group of men to beat Tommy, again, within an inch of his life. He does pretty well, but eventually collapses from a serious head injury - that definitely could have killed him.

3 Should Live: After Grace's Death

While it could be argued that Tommy should have been killed instead of Grace, Tommy also definitely could have met his demise at his own hand. Thomas Shelby suffers from severe PTSD, and his mental health has led him down a few suicidal roads.

Especially when his family is threatened (fans will remember when bombs were laid in front of his house), Thomas almost pulled the trigger multiple times. However, he's certainly proved resilient enough to keep fighting on, and that he is stronger than his demons.

2 Should Die: Tricked At The Rally

In the finale of the fifth season, Tommy has an elaborate and seemingly perfect plan to execute Oswald Mosley at a rally he is hosting. With many people in place to execute it, a wrench is thrown into the plan from an unexpected group.

This episode had all fans in total shock, and with Barney, Aberama Gold, and more reaching their demise - it could have just as easily been Tommy himself.

1 Should Live: When He Tricks Luca Changretta

This entire season, season 4, is probably a fan favorite. Battling against the Changretta family, Luca is convinced he will outsmart Tommy. After an intense boxing match where Arthur is killed, and Luca has the upper hand, the tables are turned.

Tommy meets Luca with the Peaky Blinders in his distillery - including Arthur. Luca was fooled, and a shoot out ensues, but Tommy reigns victorious. This power move is certainly worthy of life.
