The latest season of After Life provided all the highs and lows from the original season with tons of hilarious moments being mixed in with some incredibly emotional and upsetting scenes. Ricky Gervais' series continues to prove to be popular with fans, and everyone remains incredibly hopeful that a third series of the show will be confirmed.
The series manages to balance comedy with sadness in an incredible manner that really draws at the heartstrings of the audience. With some compelling characters that make the show incredibly relatable, and because of that there are still many stories that fans want to see happen. Within this list, we will take a look at 10 storylines we'd like from a potential third season of the show.
10 Kath Finds Love
Kath might not be the brightest character in the newspaper office, but she certainly has the biggest heart. All she wants to do is find someone else to love her as much as she loves other people and it would be a lot of fun to see that storyline take place.
There could be plenty of ups and downs on that journey to reflect the emotional rollercoaster that After Life likes to take its audience on. But just giving Kath more screentime would be a wise move as she brings great energy to the show.
9 More New Characters
The second season of After Life saw several new characters be brought into the show, from James, who joined on work experience, to Paul the owner of the newspaper. They both brought something different to the show and were fun inclusions that added to the overall quality of the series.
Hopefully, if there is a third season of the show, Ricky Gervais will make the decision to bring in a few more new faces. While there shouldn't be tons of new characters, as it would become overwhelming, a few new faces certainly wouldn't hurt.
8 More Focus On Sandy
Sandy is one of the most popular supporting characters from the show and someone who fans really love. Sadly, in the second season, she didn't get quite as much attention as she had done in the original series which was a shame because she was playing such a big part in the series.
Hopefully, a third series of the show could give Sandy a little bit more of a purpose outside of her work life, potentially looking at her home life or her love life. She is someone who everyone is rooting for, so showcasing her more wouldn't be a bad thing.
7 The Psychiatrist Gets Help
Throughout After Life, both Tony and Matt have visited the same psychiatrist and it's fair to say, he's not very good. He constantly unloads his own problems onto them and his advice is absolutely terrible, to the point where Matt does suggest that he goes and speaks to another psychiatrist.
It would be quite a fun storyline for the show to follow, putting him with another psychiatrist, and seeing how that might work would no doubt create some funny comedic moments which would give a nice break from the serious storylines.
6 Newspaper Struggles
While Tony managed to convince Paul to keep the newspaper open for one more year, there was no real guarantee that they'd be able to save the paper. The fact is, that in reality newspapers are struggling due to the increase in demand online, and therefore it would be interesting to see how it develops.
Seeing them all work as a team to really try and create a gameplan, with all the ups and downs, the triumphs and tribulations that will come with it is a storyline that could fit the overall theme of the show.
5 Matt & Jill Rebuild
Matt and Jill are supporting characters in After Life, but they have a long history with Tony's character due to how they connect with his wife. Therefore they appear in many of the flashback scenes, and because of that, they have a lot of relevance.
The end of season two saw them try to commit to their marriage after all, but there's no guarantee that is going to work. It would be interesting to show that side of their lives a little more in order to tell a different storyline to anything that Tony's plot could do.
4 Tony Helps Anne
Some of the greatest parts of After Life are the scenes in the graveyard between Tony and Anne. They sit together and Anne provides pearls of wisdom to try and help Tony really come to terms with the loss of his wife. She plays a crucial role in his recovery process and brings many of the emotional moments to the series.
However, season three could twist things by having Tony be the one to give Anne advice. It would be great to see him become confident enough to help her, especially if she was in a position where she'd consider dating Tony's boss, Paul, which is where Tony could really help out.
3 Another Big Emotional Moment
One of the big hooks of After Life is that there is some major emotional moment for Tony in each season. The first season was him dealing with the death of his wife, and while that continues in season two, he also then lost his father, which was another tear-jerking scene.
Another season of the show should have another big moment like this. Even though it is certainly an emotional situation to go through, whatever the storyline could be, it continues to test Tony as a person and helps make the show what it is, even if that means audiences getting upset.
2 A Wedding!
One of the great things about After Life is the fact that it counterbalances the sad moments with great happiness and joy. That's why the show is so enjoyable to watch as having that is what life is like for everyone, making it easy to connect with.
Therefore, if the show is going to have someone potentially die or a majorly emotional moment, it needs something very fun. Two of the characters that always bring joy are Pat and Daphne, and a potential wedding between them could be an amazing way to have a happy moment.
1 Tony & Emma Commit
Throughout both seasons of After Life, Tony and Emma have become incredibly close and there's no doubt that they have feelings for each other. However, Tony admits he can't commit due to his feelings about his wife, but at the end of season two, Emma agrees to be happy with whatever she can get from him.
While Tony is always going to love his wife, as that is his number one trait. That doesn't mean that he can't eventually move on, and seeing him and Ashley finally have their moment, becoming an official couple would be fantastic to see, as a full-circle moment in overcoming his grief.
