Andy Samberg: 5 Of His Best Movie Roles (& 5 Of His Worst), According to IMDB

Andy Samberg is best known for his role as Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and as a former SNL cast member. Yet, he has also starred in a range of films since the late 2000s. Like with all actors, some of his movies have been great while others were just plain terrible.

As he and the rest of The Lonely Island, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, are now getting more involved in the production side of movies, it is worth looking at some of his best and worst film roles, according to IMDb. In order to keep this list accurate and fair, movies of the same rating have been ranked by their user ratings and all nameless cameos have been kept out of this list.

10 BEST: Palm Springs (2020) - 7.1

Although, only released a few months ago Palm Springs is one of Samberg's best. Following the story of Nyles and Sarah as they get stuck at a wedding venue in Palm Springs, this irreverent romantic comedy gave new life to the time-loop genre.

Smart, funny, and with an incredibly talented cast that includeD Cristin Milioti and J.K Simmons, it is clear to see why it is rated so highly. Samberg was also kept busy behind the camera as it was produced by The Lonely Island.

9 WORST: What's Your Number (2011) - 6.1

Before Samberg was in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, he did a lot of romantic comedies and What's Your Number was one of them. Starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans as the leads, it follows the story of a young woman who looks back at her past relationship to see if one of them was her true love.

Samberg had a small role as a nerdy puppeteer named Jerry Perry. Although the film was a commercial success, critics panned the film's predictable plot.

8 BEST: Tour De Pharmacy (2017) - 7.1

Samberg's second HBO sports mockumentary, Tour de Pharmacy took an entertaining and hilarious look at the world of doping in professional cycling. Set during a fictionalized Tour de France in 1982, where all but five of the riders were kicked out because of doping.

The ridiculous yet weirdly poignant film was deemed a relative success, thanks in part to some of Samberg's co-stars who included Orlando Bloom, Freddie Highmore, John Cena, and a cameo from Lance Armstrong.

7 WORST: To Do List (2013) - 5.8

If the movie The To Do List was released now instead of seven years ago, it probably would have done a lot better as it was full of rising stars like Audrey Plaza, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and even Donald Glover.

It tells the story of Brandy, who decides that she wants to be more experienced before going to college. Samberg played the role of a hippie named Van. Unfortunately, the film was criticized for its poor writing and humor.

6 BEST: 7 Days In Hell (2015) - 7.1

Sports mockumentaries don't often seem like they would draw in a crowd, but it seems like when Samberg is involved, they certainly do. HBO's 7 Days In Hell, follows the story of two professional players Aaron Williams (Andy Samberg) and Charles Poole (Kit Harington) as they face off in history's longest Tennis match.

The film's ridiculous premise along with its off-brand humor made it one of Samberg's stranger comedies and clearly one of his best.

5 WORST: That's My Boy (2012) - 5.5

One of Samberg's worst collaborations with Adam Sandler, That's My Boy, tells the story of a father Donny (Sandler) as he tries to reintroduce himself into his son's (Samberg) life right before his wedding.

Even though the movie had a lot of big Hollywood names that included James Caan, Milo Ventimiglia, and Susan Sarandon, the film was slammed for its vulgar humor and controversial characters.

4 BEST: Hotel Transylvania (2012) - 7.1

Andy Samberg has done a lot of voice acting jobs but Hotel Transylvania is by far his best. Set in a hotel where monsters can relax away from humans, it tells the story of Dracula (Adam Sandler) who becomes protective over his daughter when a human named Jonathan (Samberg) unexpectedly visits the hotel.

This quirky children's comedy was also a commercial success and it quickly turned into a lucrative franchise. The fourth installment of the franchise is set for 2021.

3 WORST: Take The 10 (2017) - 4.7

Netflix's Take The 10 follows the life of two best friends as they make their way to a hip-hop concert while being chased by a drug dealer. Starring Josh Peck and Tony Revolori as the leads, the film was unfortunately marked as average at best.

Samberg had a small role as Peck's character's obnoxious brother and it was as equally as unmemorable as the rest of the movie.

2 BEST: Brigsby Bear (2017) - 7.3

Brigsby Bear is perhaps the sweetest yet darkest film on this list. It follows the life of James (Kyle Mooney), who after being freed from an underground bunker, sets out to make a film on a TV show from his childhood. The film was lauded for its unique premise, clever writing, and interesting view of pop culture.

Samberg only had a small role in this movie as he was a lot more active behind the scenes The Lonely Island produced the film.

1 WORST: Space Chimps (2008) - 4.5

Samberg has either had a lot of success with animated films or very little and Space Chimps is, unfortunately, the worst. It follows a group of chimps who are sent into space to explore an uncharted planet for alien life. Samberg played one of the chimps, Ham.

The film was criticized for its average humor and weak characters. Although ranked as one of his worst, the film doubled its value at the box office. So, Samberg probably did not lose too much sleep over it.
