Warning: Contains minor SPOILERS for Midnight Mass.
Netflix's long-awaited horror series Midnight Mass is officially available now — here's a breakdown of the cast and characters both new and familiar. Created by popular horror maestro Mike Flanagan, Midnight Mass is billed as his most personal project to date. The series also continues Mike Flanagan's successful partnership with Netflix. Midnight Mass is already a proven hit with critics, earning rave reviews and a 95% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Equally, it's been praised by Stephen King and countless fans who received early screenings.
Midnight Mass is set on the isolated fishing town of Crockett Island (a.k.a. the Crock-Pot). With a population of only 127 people, the small community continues to reel from years of unfortunate events that affected their way of life. Fate appears to smile upon them, however, when a former resident returns and a new priest arrives to fill in for their aging Monsignor. Eager to rejuvenate the town and its residents, Father Paul stirs up a religious fervor with a series of seemingly miraculous events that increasingly engulf and divide the island.
Though following the popular The Haunting of Hill House and its separate but thematically similar follow-up, The Haunting of Bly Manor, the highly-anticipated story of Midnight Mass greatly precedes them both. In fact, it's long been a passion project of Mike Flanagan's. And in order to finally bring his vision to life, he amassed a sprawling cast of recognizable faces from both those aforementioned shows and other works. Rounding things out with some relative newcomers, Midnight Mass delivers a talented ensemble that will stay with viewers long after their binge-watch.
A prodigal son of Crockett Island, Riley Flynn returns after several years away. Haunted by guilt over past actions, the newfound atheist struggles to find his place and purpose amid the mysteries and religious revival gripping his hometown. Actor Zach Gilford is best known for playing quarterback Matt Saracen on the Friday Night Lights TV series across five seasons.
A fellow returnee with a troubled past, Erin Greene is a teacher at Crockett Island's school and a lifelong friend of Riley's. She similarly finds her faith and courage tested amid the increasingly bizarre events in town. Kate Siegel is Mike Flanagan's most prolific collaborator, resulting in such popular and acclaimed turns as Theodora "Theo" Crain in The Haunting of Hill House and Maddie Young in Hush — which she also co-wrote.
The new and enigmatic priest of Crockett Island, the charismatic Father Paul strives to win the townspeople over with his mysterious ways and shepherd them towards a new spiritual age. Actor Hamish Linklater's previous roles include such series as Legion and The New Adventures of Old Christine, as well as such movies as award-winner The Big Short.
A fellow teacher at Crockett Island's school, Beverly Keane is also a steadfast believer and domineering town leader that welcomes Father Paul's teachings with open arms. Actress Samantha Sloyan is best known for Dr. Penelope Blake on Grey's Anatomy and also working previously with Mike Flanagan on the movie Hush and The Haunting of Hill House series.
Eager for a quiet life, the firm but compassionate Sheriff Hassan finds the town increasingly at odds with his beliefs and moral compass as the island's mysteries continue to pile up. A new regular of Mike Flanagan, actor Rahul Kohli previously played Owen Sharma on The Haunting of Bly Manor. He also retains a passionate fan following for his turn as Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti on cult-favorite iZombie and voicing Scarecrow on DC's Harley Quinn.
Despite a desire to leave Crockett Island behind, Sarah Gunning serves as the skeptical town doctor, guiding Erin through her pregnancy and looking after her ailing mother. Annabeth Gish has amassed a wealth of recognizable credits over the years. Those include turns as Monica Reyes on The X-Files and Elizabeth Bartlet Westin on The West Wing. Joining countless others, Gish was also present for The Haunting of Hill House, playing Clara Dudley.
A struggling local fisherman, Ed Flynn is Riley's old-fashioned father, with whom he shares a fractured relationship. Actor Henry Thomas received his big break in acting by playing Elliott in Steven Spielberg's E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. More recently he has appeared in several of Mike Flanagan's horror projects, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Doctor Sleep, in which he portrayed Jack Torrance.
Optimistic and endlessly forgiving, Annie Flynn is Riley's spiritual mother, who tries to help him through his crisis and back to the church. Actress Kristin Lehman previously played Detective Angie Flynn for multiple seasons of Canadian procedural: Motive. She also featured prominently in Altered Carbon season 1, playing the wealthy and enigmatic Miriam Bancroft.
Mischievous but kind-hearted, Warren Flynn is Riley's younger brother. Following in his footsteps, Warren also serves as an altar boy at St. Patrick's Church while also avoiding making Riley's mistakes. Earlier in 2021, relative acting newcomer, Igby Rigney, had a role in F9: The Fast Saga and before that guest-starred on an episode of Blue Bloods.
Friends with Warren, Ali Hassan is the Sheriff's son and a relative newcomer to Crockett Island. Trying to make the best of the sleepy town, he finds himself increasingly curious about the miraculous events at St. Patrick's church. Newcomer Rahul Abburi's previous credits are comprised of the YouTube Red series Good Game and the 2020 thriller Killer Ransom.
A resilient resident of Crockett Island, the paralyzed Leeza is an early subject of Father Paul's miraculous plans. Actress Annarah Cymone's only previous credit is the 2020 MMA drama Caged. As such, Midnight Mass serves as a mainstream debut for the young actress before she stars in Mike Flanagan's next (and unconnected) Netflix series: The Midnight Club.
Bumbling and talkative to an impressively Fargo-esque degree, Wade Scarborough is Leeza's father and Mayor of Crockett Island. Actor Michael Trucco also previously worked with Mike Flanagan on Hush and enjoyed recurring roles on several classic shows. These include Nick Podarutti on How I Met Your Mother and Samuel Anders on Battlestar Galactica.
A member of the PTA and a prominent leader of the Crockett Island community, Dolly is Wade's wife and Leeza's other. As such, she finds herself increasingly wrapped up in the mysterious events affecting her family and town. Crystal Balint has graced several popular shows with her presence, including Arrow, Supernatural, and, earlier in 2021, Riverdale.
A longtime resident of Crockett Island and Sarah's Alzheimers-afflicted mother, Mildred Gunning is another subject of Father Paul's spiritual attention. Canadian actress Alex Essoe is known for supporting roles in such movies as 2020's Death of Me. She's also enjoyed more prominent roles in Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Bly Manor and Doctor Sleep.
Crockett Island's resident alcoholic, Joe Collie is the town pariah and, like Riley, struggles with tragic mistakes and losses from his past. Actor Robert Longstreet is a certified veteran of film, television, and Mike Flanagan productions. In terms of the latter, he played Mr. Dudley on The Haunting of Hill House and appeared in Doctor Sleep. His other recent credits include Lonnie Elam in Halloween Kills and Leslie Carlyle in Judas and the Black Messiah.
Mindful still easily manipulated, Sturge is Crockett Island's ferryman and general handyman in and around the church. Actor Matt Biedel is best known for his recurring role as Daryl Petsky on Narcos: Mexico. He also previously appeared on fellow Netflix shows Altered Carbon and The Umbrella Academy. It's also been confirmed that he'll collaborate with Mike Flanagan for a second time, also signing up for the aforementioned Midnight Club.
Louis Oliver as Ooker: Warren's best friend and a fellow altar boy who orbits the periphery of the story. Apart from a brief cameo role on BBC's Sherlock, the actor (and son of writer Steven Moffat) essentially makes his full television debut with Midnight Mass.
Quinton Boisclair as Angel: A creepy figure that looms over Crockett Island. Boisclair previously embodied Devil with the Yellow Eyes on multiple episodes of Legion.
John C. MacDonald as Bowl: The local drug dealer who looks out for Joe. MacDonald's credits include minor roles in the Snowpiercer TV series and A Dog's Purpose.
Ebony Booth as Tara-Beth: A haunting figure from Riley's past. The young actress is only known for the short movies: the comedic Half a Bed and musical Lux.
Vincent Gale as Howie Hobbs: A non-religious resident of Crockett Island. The actor's previous turns include Gil Turner on Bates Motel and Flesh on Van Helsing.
Carla Gugino as The Judge: The unseen official that sentences Riley to prison. Though delivering merely a vocal cameo, the Watchmen actress's presence continues an established trend — with Carla Gugino featuring in every Mike Flanagan Netflix outing from the 2017 movie Gerald's Game through to Midnight Mass.
