Vanessa Kirby's character in Hobbs & Shaw has been revealed. The newest Fast and Furious film will revolve around Dwayne Johnson's character Luke Hobbs teaming up with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, who was the main villain in Furious 7. The Rock first teased the spinoff during an interview last year, but, since then, the film has been set for a 2019 release date with David Leitch attached to direct.
While Johnson and Statham will reprise their roles for the spinoff, Kirby was also cast in Hobbs & Shaw a few months ago. Initially, little was known about her character besides the fact that she would be playing an MI-6 agent, but it was also rumored that she would be playing the sister of Deckard Shaw. When Screen Rant interviewed Kirby back in July, she would neither confirm nor deny her character's role in the film, but teased that her character was "absolutely the boss." Now that the film is in production, more details pertaining to Kirby's character have been revealed.

With the spinoff a little less than a year away, Johnson took to Instagram to shed some more light on Kirby's character. In his Instagram post, Johnson confirmed that Kirby would be playing another Shaw sibling named Hattie Shaw. He also revealed that the character enjoys "longs walks on the beach. Being a bad ass MI6 Operative. Drinking tequila with Hobbs. And not in that order." Johnson then joked that Shaw hated the fact that his sister was spending so much time with Hobbs, before officially welcoming her to the cast.
While Hobbs & Shaw will be introducing another Shaw relative to the Fast and Furious universe, Hattie is hardly the first. Owen Shaw, played by Luke Evans, was the first member of the family that was introduced in Fast & Furious 6. Deckard Shaw was also revealed in the mid-credits scene for Fast & Furious 6, teasing Statham as the villain for Furious 7. Likewise, Helen Mirren was cast in The Fate of the Furious as Owen and Deckard's mother, Magdalene Shaw.
Even though Kirby has only been acting since 2010, she has already starred in some big projects, which proves that she has what it takes for Hobbs & Shaw. Kirby has starred in the Netflix original series The Crown as Princess Margaret since 2016, and she also appeared in Mission: Impossible- Fallout as the White Widow. While The Crown didn't allow her to show off much of her action skills, the latest Mission: Impossible movie certainly did. If Kirby can bring the same skill set she used in Mission: Impossible 6, Hattie Shaw will likely be just as lethal as her two brothers.
