Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Is Even Bigger Than Breath Of the Wild

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is going to be even bigger than The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, at least in one way. Age of Calamity is a prequel to the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild, in which players will experience a time long before the events of the original game and help to fight back against the coming of Ganon and the destruction of Hyrule. Though these efforts are ultimately doomed - Ganon winning this battle sets the plot of Breath of the Wild in motion, after all  - the game offers fans some tempting experiences to make up for the bitter ending, like being able to fight as the usually unplayable Princess Zelda.

Fans will be getting the first big look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity soon at the Tokyo Game Show, where the game has apparently been allotted a 50-minute presentation time slot. The reveal of the nearly hour-long showcase was a welcome piece of news for Zelda enthusiasts who, besides the announcement trailer, have been given few tangible details on the project.

Though it may not be the long-awaited Breath of the Wild sequel, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is at least going to give players a lot to focus on in the meantime, if its 15.6 GB of pre-loadable data is any indication. Though the enticing open world in Breath of the Wild gave fans so much to explore, the game’s file size at launch only reached 13.4 GB. It is only with the DLC size included that Breath of the Wild matches Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The prequel is already available to download on the Nintendo eShop, so players can have the game ready to go the moment it launches, rather than waiting for it to download on release day.

While information about the game is in short supply, Nintendo has revealed a few details about the bonuses coming alongside its release. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’s in-game pre-order bonus announcement was met by a few chuckles when Nintendo tweeted out that fans who purchase the game early can go into battle equipped with a ladle and pot lid. In a more traditional move, Nintendo also announced that it will be re-releasing the Amiibo for the champions Daruk, Urbosa, Mipha, and Revali when the game launches.

Data like this is great for fans to get a rough idea of what to expect from a game, but it is not a perfect measurement. It looks like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity may have a fair bit of content, but whether it is enough to tide fans over who are less-than-patiently waiting until Nintendo is ready to talk more about Breath of the Wild’s sequel remains to be seen. The best way to find out may be to keep watch for information during the Tokyo Game Show this weekend.
