Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 10 Funniest Celebrity Appearances, Ranked

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the perfect mix of crime and comedy, and that’s probably why it’s one of the most beloved sitcoms out there today. Of course, this show is definitely famous for its quirky characters and hilariously cringey moments.

Some of those iconic scenes and episodes owe it to some celebrity appearances, and the characters that the guest stars bring to the series in a uniquely brilliant way. It’s time to reflect on the best celebrities that have hit this show, and relive how hysterical and memorable they each were.

10 Sterling K. Brown

While Sterling K. Brown’s character wasn’t exactly “funny”, fans couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear throughout the entirety of this episode in season 5. For a change of pace, the whole episode is an interrogation that Holt and Peralta carry out on Philip Davidson (Brown).

This might just be one of the best and most watched episodes of the entire series, there are certainly moments that deserve some laughs - and honestly, a standing ovation for the cast is in order as well.

9 Nick Offerman

Sitcom cameos are even more funny when another sitcom star is the guest star. Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation alum, plays Captain Holt’s ex-boyfriend in season 3.

It’s a milder version of Ron Swanson, which sitcom fans can definitely appreciate. Offerman has made his role as Swanson absolutely iconic, and it was only fitting to have him join the 99th Precinct for an episode.

8 Mario Lopez

Another sitcom alum hit the small screen, but this time Mario Lopez played himself. For Gina’s birthday party, Jake does a LOT of work to get this famous actor to attend the party.

In all its hilarity, Gina sends him away, but not until after he quotes his famous character from Saved By the Bell. It’s a prime Gina moment, and it’s totally ridiculous enough to also be totally funny.

7 Pete Davidson

It’s not shocking that Andy Samberg enlists many, many other comedians and SNL actors to appear for a quick cameo on the show. Pete Davidson is no exception, and he has a small scene in season 1 as an at-risk kid that comes to the 99th precinct.

It’s so quick fans might even miss it, but true comedy lovers would never not recognize Pete Davidson. It’s a hilarious and sneaky celebrity appearance.

6 Tim Meadows

Tim Meadows might be the king of SNL, and he’s certainly one of the funniest men out there today. This actor was definitely recruited for this sitcom for his hilarity, and his character is definitely unexpected.

When Jake is in jail, Meadows is his cell mate, Caleb - and he’s a cannibal. Only the creators of Brooklyn Nine-Nine could come up with this, but it’s become one of the funniest side characters from the series.

5 Neil DeGrasse Tyson

This astrophysicist also plays himself, and appears in season 3 to help Gina learn astronomy. That’s hilarious in itself, but it’s probably more funny that he shows up because he goes to the same gym as Terry.

The gym flashback, where Neil deGrasse Tyson outdoes Terry by using physics, might be one of the most hilarious scenes that includes a guest star. It’s hard to forget this celebrity appearance.

4 Ed Helms

There’s been alumni from other sitcoms already, but it’s hard to match Ed Helms from The Office. In season 2, he plays Jake Danger. While it sounds like a cool name, he’s a super uncool dude that works for the United States Postal Inspection Service.

On top of that, he’s also pretty rude, and puts a wrench in Charles’ and Jake’s case. It’s hilarious from start to finish, and Helms puts his brilliant flair into Jake Danger - which is no surprise.

3 Zooey Deschanel

Crossover episodes might just as good at it gets when it comes to television, and when the gang of New Girl heads to New York, it only makes sense that Jessica Day gets caught up in one of Jake’s cases.

Fans of comedy shows are probably obsessed with both series, and it was one of the strangest but most hilarious cross-over events that fans will always be eternally grateful for. As a fun fact, Nasim Pedrad (Aly from New Girl) plays Jake’s sister in Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

2 Adam Sandler

Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler are two comedy legends that go way back, and it was more than fitting to have this movie actor join Jake Peralta on this sitcom. At an auction back in season 1, Sandler is there to simply heckle Jake.

Playing himself, it’s pretty hysterical, and the two are not shy to throw punches  at one another. It’s early on in the series, but it’s still definitely memorable.

1 Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion is a television legend, and he’s most recently well-known for the show The Rookie. Naturally, in season 4, he plays Mark - an actor that plays a detective (and who Rosa loves).

He tries to help the 99th precinct solve a case, and Fillion plays an eccentric role that’s basically himself, and all fans couldn’t help but remember this episode as one of the best the series has to offer.
