Pulp Fiction’s Mia Wallace Imagined As An Animated Character

Mia Wallace, the mysterious wife of gangster Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino’s iconic Pulp Fiction, has been re-imagined as an animated character. The Oscar-winning 1994 film made Tarantino an internationally recognized filmmaker, setting the stage for a career that has so far ranked as one of modern cinema’s most acclaimed.

Time and time again, Tarantino has been praised for his characters as well as their dialogue. His first film, Reservoir Dogs, introduced audiences to the sort of diverse list of characters that he’s capable of creating, but it was Pulp Fiction that truly took things to new levels and gave way to countless stylistic imitators. Of those memorable characters, Wallace ranks high, given the fact that she was responsible for so much of what happened to Vincent Vega (John Travolta) throughout the course of his final hectic days. Thurman quickly became a favorite collaborator of Tarantino’s (despite a falling out in their later years of working together), as the two developed the Kill Bill character, The Bride, who was played by Thurman.

Given how memorable Tarantino’s characters are, fans are always open to seeing them taken in new directions. For some time, a rumour that Tarantino would expand on the lives of the Vega brothers drew considerable interest, only to never materialize. The same could be said for seeing Thurman take on the role of The Bride again in a third Kill Bill outing. But while these character explorations are quite grand in scale, artist @daniela_uhlig has offered up a brand new take on Thurman’s Pulp Fiction persona with a small dose of animation via her Instagram account. The end result is a glimpse at Wallace as she's never been seen before:

Equipped with a dose of her beloved cocaine and a cigarette (Red Apple brand?), Wallace cuts a pretty impressive figure as an animated character. It’s certainly enough to send imaginations spiralling into a hypothetical world where an animated version of Pulp Fiction could exist; or perhaps just an animated exploration of Wallace’s post Pulp life. At any rate, Uhlig is still looking for suggestions from followers for her “Six Fan Arts” series, with Wallace just being the first of a six portrait series. Exactly which famous film character comes next is up to the artists Instagram followers, but seeing such a rich and intriguing interpretation of Wallace could certainly bring about votes for more Pulp Fiction characters.

Over the years, several famed franchises have ventured into the arena of animation – from Star Wars to Jurassic Park, and fans have generally taken to these interpretations with a decent amount of interest. In the case of Pulp Fiction, however, the source material may be rich, but it doesn’t have the extensive qualities of a franchise. Still, Uhlig’s art can’t help but inspire a certain degree of contemplation over what sort of possibilities an animated world could offer Tarantino. If Mia Wallace can so perfectly be made into an animated character, then the rest of the film’s cast also seem well suited for something new.
