Mortal Kombat 11 Roadmap Unveils New Seasonal Skins | Screen Rant

The kombatants of Mortal Kombat 11 are about to get a new wardrobe just in time for the hottest days of Summer. Released back in March of 2019, the latest entry in NetherRealm Studios' bloody fighting game series has had several meaty additions in its year and change on store shelves. Biggest of those was Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, a full-on story expansion that added an epilogue to the main campaign and new characters like Fujin and guest star Robocop. Naturally, there were also plenty of skins, and the game isn't done adding them after Aftermath.

Past skin packs for Mortal Kombat 11 involve both callouts to the franchise's rich history and to its connection with DC Comics thanks to its publisher, WB Games. This includes movie tie-ins like Sonya Blade as Sarah Connor from Terminator: Dark Fate from Terminator: Dark Fate, and Cassie Cage as Harley Quinn just before Birds of Prey made its debut. Other packs bring back the basic ninja outfits from the early 90s and other arcade looks, and some even celebrate the holidays. NeatherRealm seems to be channeling the latter for the latest packs, as two out of the three follow that same pattern.

Announced on Mortal Kombat's official Twitter account, the new DLC rollout for the rest of 2020 features three drops of three skins each. The first, available on August 6, is the Summer Heat pack, featuring new options for Baraka, Erron Black, and Kitana. Each of these skins is patriotic in nature, likely originally timed for the Fourth of July. Purchasers can dress Erron Black up as Uncle Sam, Baraka as a cook complete with sausage bandolier, and a more traditional look for Kitana. Skin packs for the game have traditionally been $5.99, but there's no indication of the exact pricing of this pack as of yet.

The next two skin packs are not detailed in the reveal tweet, but there is enough information to make an educated guess. The first, named the Klassic Femme Fatale Skin Pack, will arrive on August 25. The male-focused Klassic skin pack already in the game covers Kano, Jax, and Kung Lao. Looking at the full roster, it can be assumed that this pack will grant players 90s-era skins for fighters like Sonya Blade, Jade, and Kitana. The second skin pack arrives on October 8, and it's Halloween-themed. Called the All Hallows' Eve skin pack, it is the second skin pack based around the holiday after the Masquerade Skin Pack released in October of last year.

Mortal Kombat 11 has a diverse roster of fighters, each with plenty of cosmetic choices already in-game. Still, it's good to see NetherRealm keep up support for their game even after their big Moral Kombat 11: Aftermath launch earlier this year. With speculation buzzing about what their next fighter could entail, and continued activity surrounding Mortal Kombat's upcoming film reboot, the studio's properties are as vital now as they ever have been. Despite the early controversy, Mortal Kombat is big business in 2020, and that's pretty toasty.
