Dark Souls: 10 Pieces Of Armor That Aren't Worth Questing For

When one talks about some of the greatest video games of all time, it goes without saying that Dark Souls would be an integral part of this conversation. The fame of Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software exploded when Dark Souls gained a ton of traction with its release in the West, making it infinitely clear that there was definitely a market for hardcore games with interesting lore that isn't shoved into player's faces like the majority of video game stories that had invaded the mainstream.

However, to enjoy Dark Souls to its fullest, the player needs to definitely improve their equipment so that they can deal with the toughest threats in the game without being at a significant disadvantage. Armor plays a huge role in this gam—more so than Dark Souls II and IIIand there are chances that players may be led on wild goose chases to pick up armor that is simply not worth it. So, keeping this in mind, here are ten armor sets in Dark Souls that aren't worth the hassle required to get them.

10 Chester's Set

Marvelous Chester is one of the more unique characters in Dark Souls, with his appearance being pretty much a nod to the Bloodborne universe, given the fact that he explicitly mentions time travel and he also looks like the hunters in the world of Bloodborne.

That being said, it's still not worth it to kill this awesome NPC and take his gear, since the armor isn't really worth ending the life of such an innocent character. Players are better off sticking with other pieces of equipment that yield way better benefits.

9 Painting Guardian Set

The Painting Guardian Set might seem like a rather cool piece of equipment to wear, but the fact of the matter is that this set is actually quite detrimental when it comes to improving the survivability of the player.

Trying to find this armor in the Painted World of Ariamis is certainly not worth it in the slightest, no matter how fun the area may be to explore.

8 Mask Of The Father

Before the nerf, the Mask of the Father was one of the better pieces of equipment in the game that most people couldn't wait to get their hands on. However, after From Software realized just how broken this helmet really was, they decided to change its stats in a later patch that ultimately led to the downfall of this particular piece of equipment. It's a shame, as the Mask of the Father had definitely become legendary way before that point.

On the plus side, the need to farm this piece of equipment from Pinwheel was negated, which is perhaps the only positive thing that happened as a result of this nerf.

7 Gold-Hemmed Black Set

Speaking of equipment that gets nerfed, one can't fail to mention an armor set that was all the rage in the infancy of Dark Souls... only for future patches to completely wreck its usability and render it obsolete.

The fact that obtaining this armor set basically triggers a boss fight with Ceaseless Discharge is ridiculous in and of itself, and most people would've been advised to stay well clear of this boss fight and armor set had it not been for the fact that fighting this ridiculous boss is a necessity.

6 Crimson Set

Blighttown is easily one of the worst areas in the entire game, and it goes without saying that no player should go out of their way to explore this nightmarish hellscape... especially if the end result is obtaining an armor set that is completely worthless. This is exactly the case with the Crimson Set, and players should definitely not go out of their way for this mediocre set of armor.

5 Great Lord Set

The idea of wearing Gwyn's armor might sound great... but it completely fails in its execution. Starting off New Game Plus just to obtain this armor is definitely not recommended, especially since the set doesn't really have any amazing bonuses that would separate it from the rest of the pack.

4 Hollow Thief Set

The Hollow enemies are the first set of enemies that are encountered in Dark Souls, so it's only a given that the armor they drop won't be anything special. The Hollow Thief set is dropped by the Undead Assassins, and trying to farm all the pieces from these enemies is a waste of time given how useless this armor set really is.

3 Black Knight Set

The Black Knight Set could've actually been really useful... had it not been for the fact that the only time players can actually wear it is all the way at the end of the game, in the Kiln of the First Flame.

This armor set could've been way more useful had it been introduced early on in the game... but it seemed that players wouldn't get to enjoy this set unless they started a new playthrough.

2 Lord's Blade Set

Ciaran is another cool NPC that people need to kill if they wish to don her armor. Again, as is the case with Chester, trying to attain the Lord's Blade Set is simply not worth killing her off. There are way better pieces of armor that can be obtained by the player, rendering this set useless pretty soon in one's playthrough.

1 Big Hat's Set

The Duke's Archives might be one of the few decent areas in the latter half of Dark Souls, but that's still no excuse for players to roam around this area just so they can obtain the Big Hat's Set. The stats of this armor are nothing to write home about, making it a set that people should only take if they wish to see just how ridiculous the hat really looks on their character.
