Red Hood is Finally a Hero Again | Screen Rant

Red Hood has finally returned to Gotham City from the Joker War with a whole new outlook in the latest issue Red Hood #52  penned by Shawn Martinbrough with art by tony Atkins and Moritat. Red Hood #52, which was released December 22, 2020, details the adventures of Jason Todd as he makes hard decisions on where his alliances lie. Upon his return, it seems as though he is finally moving past his issues with Batman and is reinventing his own moral compass in order to protect an old friend from a looming assassination.

As we know, Red Hood has dabbled with the dark side of Gotham City for years now. Of course, he has his reasons for going dark as he never quite recovered from the trauma sustained from when the Joker nearly killed him.  So it makes sense that Red Hood has never been the hero Batman hoped he would be. We've seen Red Hood play out his muddled moral compass in fighting for years including during the Joker War.

Now, this anti-hero returns to Gotham to face new obstacles that could put Red Hood back on track to being a hero. According to DC Comics, Red Hood's return will force him to make tough choices about what kind of fighter he wants to be. "Jason Todd finds himself in the middle of a turf war between a violent gang aided by Killer Croc and a new group of vigilantes dedicated to protecting his old neighborhood of the Hill," DC Comics reports. Red Hood must now align himself with vigilantes in order to save a long-time childhood friend when she becomes a target of assassination.

This shift comes at a time before Red Hood hunts masked people during DC's Future State. But Red Hood started his journey with Batman and therefore his roots of crime-fighting will always be on the heroic, morally true side of crime-fighting. This move towards a lighter path, should he decide to stay on it, wouldn't be anything new to Red Hood.

Perhaps this is the time where Red Hood finally crosses back over into the light and returns to his vigilante roots. If he does make the choice to become a hero once again, this seems like the perfect opportunity for Red Hood to put aside his issues with Batman, regain his moral compass, and swing back over to the good side of Gotham City crime-fighting once and for all. Either way, it seems as though Red Hood has a lot of tough choices to make in Red Hood #52.
