Every Delta Flight Attendant Is Getting A New iPhone 12

Delta Air Lines is working with Apple and AT&T to provide every one of its flight attendants with a new iPhone 12. Launched last year at the company’s ‘Hi, Speed’ event, the iPhone 12 is the first iPhone to feature 5G support and can be purchased in four different models, along with the iPhone 12 Pro, Pro Max, and mini. Just last week, Apple announced the standard iPhone 12 and mini models can be purchased in a new purple color.

The iPhone 12 has a whole host of excellent features, including wireless charging and an upgraded camera experience with multiple photography effects. The iPhone 12 has even played a part in Apple’s mission to help the environment. Apple decided not to include new EarPods or chargers with an iPhone 12 purchase, allowing the company to reduce the amount of minerals mined from the earth.

According to AT&T, Delta flight attendants will be able to utilize 5G to improve the flight experience for all passengers, and also explained why the iPhone 12 was the best choice. Thanks to the Super Retina XDR display, flight attendants can view itineraries and training videos easily, even in dimly lit cabin environments. AT&T also cited the A14 bionic chip that powers the iPhone 12 as a reason, stating how it is "the fastest chip in a smartphone." While also explaining that flight attendants won’t have to worry about the iPhone 12 becoming easily damaged, thanks to the combination of the Ceramic Glass Shield and an IP68 water-resistant rating. In its own statement, Delta said flight attendants will start receiving an iPhone 12 near the end of the summer and the change will further help to reduce the use of paper during operations.

The air travel industry was seriously impaired last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this decision, Delta is looking to ensure that flight attendants will be able to do their jobs more efficiently once travel returns to some form of normality. Both announcements specifically took time to focus in on the AR benefits associated with the new iPhone. Besides assisting flight attendants during training, travelers might also benefit from in-flight improvements, such as a faster ability for flight attendants to locate catering items.

This collaboration with Delta isn’t the only way Apple is improving travel for customers. For example, following a recent Apple Maps update, iPhone users can use the app to learn about an airport’s rules regarding safe travel before arriving at the airport, and regardless of whether traveling with Delta or another airline.
