Nintendo Switch Player Hits the Maximum Hours of Play Time

A Nintendo Switch player has maxed out the console's play time counter with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The console lets players check how many hours they've sunk into each game in their library, and while it's fairly normal for Animal Crossing players to rack up hundreds of hours in the game, one Reddit user has pushed the Switch feature to its limits.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn't one of the oldest Switch games, releasing fairly recently in March 2020. Once the main game activities are complete, players are able to design and decorate their island paradise using various tools and items, which is usually where the most play time is invested. As well as crafting their island to perfection, players can also quickly rack up hours meeting friends in multiplayer, and using the game's tools to create pixel art for custom designs, or creating bulletin board art in Animal Crossing.

Redditor daveboy2000 took to the Animal Crossing subreddit to share a screenshot of their Nintendo Switch stats, revealing they've maxed out the number of hours the console can show. daveboy2000's impressive play count for the game shows the player has sunk 9,999 hours into the release - if not more. Commenter corticalization calculated the user's play time as equating to around 18 hours of Animal Crossing per day, asking the OP: "Definitely neat to see but… are you ok?"

Some may be surprised to see a cap on the number of hours of play the Nintendo Switch will show. It's possible that Nintendo didn't envisage anyone reaching the 9,999-hour mark in any video game, and therefore decided that having an unlimited number of play hours would be unnecessary. Any Animal Crossing fans hoping to see what a 9,999-hour island looks like are in luck, as the user has shared their Dream Address code for visitors to explore their creation. Players can check out the user's island - and probably get some design inspiration for their own - at DA-0857-9863-2610.

The cap may be disappointing for any gamers who want to accurately keep track of their hours. The Redditor's hour count will likely go up even further with the upcoming release of a new Animal Crossing update, but the cap means they will no longer be able to track just how much of the game they've played. If more players hit a similar play figure, hopefully Nintendo will consider removing the play hour limit.
